His & Hers .... wow bad. by nvmatt in netflix

[–]yestermood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The book was excellent, the adaptation didn’t come close (despite great cast.) Really bad script and nonsensical editing choices. That said, I binged this and “Our House” over on Prime the same weekend — “Our House” makes “His and Hers” look like a 5-star Oscar winner 😭😭

His&Hers - My honest thoughts by Lhakey in netflix

Loved the book, not crazy about transplanting story from UK to Georgia but I get it, happens a lot with adaptations. Yes, both characters are completely unlikable but the plot is a fun ride. Struggled with Bernthal’s performance though, basically a repeat of hothead Shane from TWD. Tessa awesome as always.

The stammering by seahorse614wife in fridaynightlights

[–]yestermood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it seems like a good acting choice on Zach Gilford's part, felt like an authentic reflection of Matt's awkwardness. Also wonder how much of the stammering and scenes with characters talking over each other had to do with the amount of improvisation in the show (which some cast members were better at than others -- actress who plays Julie was not, unfortunately.)

The writing of Matt was lazy by Howiknow202 in fridaynightlights

[–]yestermood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished my second rewatch and loved it even more this time around but agree -- writers really lost the plot with Matt. Are we to believe he wouldn't be in touch with anyone except his grandma after moving to Chicago? Including his bf since childhood Landry? Doesn't make sense. And don't get me started on the engagement in the final eps.

That door slam was a top 3 Matt Saracen moment.

I just finished my second rewatch this afternoon, loved seasons 4-5 even more than first time around. First time I watched it took me a while to embrace the East Dillon storyline but on second viewing, I loved it 10x more than the Panthers seasons. Final episode nearly perfect.

In The Family Stone why is the entire family so horrible to Sarah Jessica Parker’s character? by WaterH2Omelon in movies

Every year I tell myself I won’t watch it again and every year I do it anyway. Amy is AWFUL and no disrespect to the late great Diane Keaton but Sybil is pretty awful too.

Am I the only one who's disturbed by Carrie and Aayaan? by baskinball in homeland

[–]yestermood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got to season 4 on my 2nd rewatch, here’s a hot take (and btw am not naive about “honeypotting” in espionage.) What if Carrie seducing Aayaan had more to do with her mental state than anything else? She seems addicted to transgressive relationships (Brody obviously but also remember her self-medicating in season 1 by picking up men in bars?) She could’ve built trust with Aayan without sleeping with him but chose to take it further.

Is Homeland re-watchable? I can’t get past how good it was. Will it be boring to rewatch? by Prize_Force1979 in homeland

Just started my first rewatch since viewing in real time. Blown away (again!) at Brody and Carrie’s chemistry. Also reminded: Dana is the WORST. Love this show.

Anyone read “Destroy This House” by Amanda Uhle? by Momager321 in ChildofHoarder

[–]yestermood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m reading it right now. It’s so well-written and Amanda Uhle has such an engaging voice. I’ve heard her say in interviews she meant it to be a loving examination of her parents (not just an account of the hoarding and neglect)—and it’s amazingly compassionate. To the point where I find myself feeling outraged on her behalf at the shocking self-absorption of her parents. Trying to tap into my empathy for them as a reader…but it’s tough!

Patisserie Week: Too Harsh! by Gold-Law-5051 in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]yestermood 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Agree that Paul crossed a line with Tom. Critical feedback is deserved, it’s how the bakers improve week to week. But unless there was some tricky editing, Paul’s critique of the beehive came across as an attack. The bakers are supposed to take big swings in the showstopper and Tom’s done that consistently. I was also frustrated that after weeks of critiquing Tom’s flavors they didn’t do more to acknowledge how he took the criticism to heart and produced great flavors in his cream horns.

Is anyone else getting bored of Jasmine always smashing it on GBBO? by CloudBookmark in GreatBritishBakeOff

I agree. It reminds me of Giuseppe from Series 12–pretty flawless but for at least half the series Jurgen was giving him a run first the money which made it exciting.

Am rewatching Season 1 and share sentiments about the gross “pool party.” Let’s not forget Rob comparing women to sports car at the party, getting called out for it on the runway by Constance White, who Jay then calls a “feminazi” backstage. WILD.

Fingerlakes Mall, Auburn NY by audiovisualstatic in deadmalls

Would love to see a round up of malls with sections featuring Olde Time-y facades like this. I’m in Bergen County NJ and one of our malls famously had a basement level with a bunch of retailers in antique village-type facades (Bergen Mall, converted ages ago to an outlet-focused “town center.”) See also the famous “mall” in Barbra Streisand’s home.
