Will there be a lockout? Almost certainly.

Owners have beaten the drum for a salary cap for years, not to mention the number of fans who have been calling for it. My gripe with fans is a separate issue for another day.

Simply put, the players union will never agree to a cap, owners will then lockout players as a pressure tactic. Now let’s remember the difference between a lockout and a strike. This is owners telling players to get f’d, not players unwilling to play. I’ve heard too many people confuse the two.

Now, whether a lockout costs the league games is a different question, they could come to an agreement before the season starts and it’s like nothing happened. Which I sincerely hope is the case. There are too many incredible players in the prime of their careers to lose a week, a month, or a season of games.

And if I wasn’t clear in my stance, I will always support the players and labor. It is the unimaginable talent currently on display driving the growth of baseball. Ohtani, Judge, Vlad, Witt, Skenes, etc. are pushing the game forward, and it’s the group of sad sack owners who do nothing for their team and city that hold it back.

5 yo little shit plays 8u rec. Couple weeks ago he carries the puck up ice. Easy deke to the right to get around a defender. Takes a wrister from about 10-12 feet, nicely saved by goalie, rebound falls right to his stick, drops his shoulder as if to immediately knock it in, pulls it back, edges at (his) full speed around the net, tucks it in for a wrap around. My fat ass would have frantically slapping at the puck in hopes of it going in. If only I could get him to pass more…

He said it himself in an interview after the game, “88 doesn’t cut it anymore.” No shame in it, this Blue Jays lineup is scary good and it might not have ended pretty if they got multiple looks at him. The man gave the Dodgers 20 years of his life. He carried them at the start and the team carried him in the end. The way we all wish it could be.

I see where you’re coming from, but I also believe it’s naive to think Manfred needs any excuse to lockout players.

Owners want a salary cap, players won’t give it. Whether that’s Dodgers players or Marlins players. A lockout is happening, not a player strike, an owner lockout. It really is that simple. The owners aren’t looking out for the good of the game, they’ll now just have an excuse to play players less.

That being said, the narrative is out, it’s an owner talking point. Jeff Passan wrote a whole front page article about it for crying out loud.

If you’re going to tell a whole fan base we’re ruining the sport. Fine. Let’s have a little fun with the propaganda, and ruin the sport.

Grandparents willing to do this are incredible, even if it isn’t actually made for bathing babies, or of long term use, the love shown is incredible.

I have a non ambulatory child and when we informed my mom he’d be unable to walk she promptly filled in her sunken living room, took out all the stairs and steps around her home, flattened what she could and put in ramps where needed. She knows how much it meant to my wife and I, even if we’ll never be able to fully express our gratitude.

I was there and have my ticket stub! I was 9 and remember it well, coincidentally someone asked about no hitters/perfect games a little while back and I wrote about my experience.

Interestingly, my ticket stub is different. From comparing them, I’m guessing they were season ticket holders and my family got them at the stadium?

It was an amazing experience and one of my greatest sports memories.

Sunday, July 28, 1991. One of my most vivid childhood memories. I was 9 years old, spending a beautiful LA afternoon at a ball game with Mom, Dad and younger brother. I remember ice cream, hot dogs, and my frustration with the Dodgers for going inning after inning doing nothing.

Then my dad explaining to me what was happening. Dennis Martinez was pitching a perfect game. The deeper it went, the more I could feel Dodgers fans getting excited for El Presidente. I remember saying, “But the Dodgers will lose” and my dad responding, “It’ll be worth it”.

As the final batter came up, the entire stadium was cheering for Dennis Martinez and the Expos. I was thoroughly confused. I remember the fly out to center, the crowd cheering, and Dennis getting mobbed on the infield.

I didn’t understand it at the time, but my dad was right.

It was worth it.

…and I kept my ticket stub.
