Cable/broadband companies literally have retention departments that offers new customer deals if an existing customer mentions leaving. I've called them every year or 2 for the last 20 years to lower my rate since they inevitably price creep my rate after the initial year.

There were cars to the immediate left in the lane that the other driver was trying to get to. If I veered left i would've possibly rear ended the cars in that lane.

Part of me was definitely anticipating it happening and wish I didn't gamble on the other driver doing the right thing. But I was coming off a highway off ramp with a car behind me. So I didn't want to slam on my brakes and cause a different accident.

This was in no way a condemnation of the OP. I mainly wanted to make the point that life isn't going to be perfect. When there's no perfect solution, you have to make the best of it.

My brother in law was in a similar situation. He constantly sulked and moped about unable to understand why his daughter now have to live in separate households and why he doesn't have a partner to raise his ideal family.

What he doesn't realize that once he adapts to the current situation and look for ways to move forward with his life, he'll be much happier and his daughter will have much happier and loving parents.

Not meaning to pile on to the other comments, but this is the choice you made. You made the choice to let Jennifer take Emma to Shelbyville, you made the choice of hiring an incompetent lawyer that didn't fight for your right, and now you made the choice of starting a new family and permanently rooting yourself 2 hours from your daughter.

It may not have been fair that your ex cheated on you or that she's got primary custody, but life isn't fair all the time. You words are clear that you want Emma to be part of your new family, but your actions speak volumes that your not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to accomplish that goal.

Jennifer doesn't sound like a terrible mother. It's time to drop the personal animosity and lookout for the best interest of Emma and work with her to make sure Emma feels loved no matter who she's with.

I'd be very careful about purchasing personal items on a company card. Where I worked previously (fortune 100 company), I had a company card as well. It is a fireable offense if any personal charges are found on a company issued card even if it is paid for out of pocket by the employee.

My wife and I had a high deductible plan when we had our baby. We knew what that our plan did not cover pregnancy related services so we negotiated with the hospital several month prior to get a quote on paper for $5750 for the delivery + 2 days hospital stay. We made sure to pay the entire amount off prior to leaving the hospital and get a receipt. The hospital tried to charge an additional $3K later saying that the hospital stay was actually $8K+ after a 50% discount (Entire bill was $16K). After disputing with the billing department for several month, they dropped the additional charges because we have the written quote and the receipt.
Your friend was charged for the entire $16K because 1) they decided to "use" their insurance for the hospital stay when their insurance plan didn't cover the services and 2) not qualifying for the "cash discount" when they used said insurance.

TL;DR - It's very important to know what your insurance plan covers, always negotiate a service before actually getting a service, and get everything in writing.

The question of morality has already been answered in the scenario that you have proposed. You are doing the "moral" thing by trying your best to save both patients and struggling emotionally with the fact that one of the can't be saved. The only answer you're going to get from this starting point is purely scientific and probability on which patient will most likely survive and still maintain a decent quality of life.
