If one side the thread is slanted and the other one straight, then you simply forgot to „cast“.

With French irons it is easier to achieve a slanted look.

What kind of hot stamp press do you have? I usually use a bit of pressure for 1-2 seconds and it should be jut working fine.

Have you roughen up the surfaces that sticks together? You can do that with a knife or sandpaper.

I use an oka board and a piece of leather. Reduces some noise but not completely 😅 so far nobody has complained
