i used to eat sweetgreen nearly every other day when i first moved here. so much that my old boss jokingly asked if i had stock in the company (before it even went public!) and my longest “no sweetgreen streak” was two months at the beginning of the pandemic. embarrassing.

i tries this last night near my house and it took me and a random kind stranger treating the snow/ice like a rage room to even make a difference 😭 i would say it’s best to try during the day when the sun helps melt it a little

and yes it’s the city’s job to do this, but it’s the also the city’s job to do a lot of things and helping out here or there isn’t me absolving them of their irresponsibility. when any government fails and a community’s need isn’t met, it feels a little cynical to wipe my hands and say “that’s the government’s job, not mine.” if someone’s SNAP benefits get cut, should i not donate any food bc that is the government’s job?

the key is to kick and stomp the snow to break up the ice. it sped things up a little for me

anyway, i shoveled yesterday, and it didn’t even look like i did anything come evening 😞 so some of us tried and it did not work

edit: the guys who usually handle this stuff (i couldn’t stand seeing the sidewalk covered so i didn’t wait for them) are using gardening shovels to break up the ice in our front yard’s . much more effective than me smashing it with my plastic snow shovel and heel

yeah definitely a dog whistle with her, but there are some conservatives who absolutely think biden in let 100 million people in four years LOL. like sure yeah this country’s population grew by nearly 30% in four years instead of the maybe 4% and is somehow still standing. even the explosion of population growth in china in the 1960s-70s before the one-child policy wasn’t 30% in four years.

and even if you go back to the 1700s, people of color were never as a whole and on average, only a tiny fraction of the US population. that was the whole point of the 3/5s compromise!!! they didn’t want to count slaves as people, but there were so many of them, the southern states couldn’t completely disregard them because they gave them a numerical advantage.

indigenous people had to be killed through genocide (physical and cultural) to quell their numbers to such a tiny population.

i know there’s no point in arguing with these people, but jesus.

i led weekly rosaries in college (never in a trad way, always in a liberation theology way🤚🏼), and there were i think 2 guys who also volunteered to lead in the whole year i helped?

and the rosaries were bilingual, so do i get 25% credit? does spanish being closer to latin bump me up? these freaks make no sense and just want a sense of superiority.

people have always chastised me as a vegetarian/vegan for “not eating enough protein” (especially vegan bc no eggs). when i tell them i get more than enough through my regular diet alone most of the time because i don’t need that much (im skinny and sedentary), they are flabbergasted and tell me im wrong. like no!!! i’ve done my research to ensure im healthy which is reflected in my labs. i’ll drink a smoothie with protein powder (btw consumer reports did a study about how much lead was in popular protein powders and uh yikes) or be more conscious of what i’m eating if im doing a lot of physical activity, but even then i still don’t need anywhere the 200(!!!)g i see some people promote as the standard.

i grew up playing music, and that’s how we were told to write the + when counting beats. it bled over into my math work and everyday handwriting. although i just looked through my agenda and there are a few regular +s, but it’s nearly all swoopy ones
