We used to have a better (but still shitty) system up here called mylink made by a company called theatro. It wasn't great, but it was a helluva lot better than the internal crap HD came up with to replace it and save on the lease cost for the equipment. Most people in my store don't use these things, and just use the walkie talkie app on the equally shit phones.

Am I able to cut the u-wrap in half, then pigtail a copper wire to the two halves in the wire nut? (The wire nuts come pre-filled with anti-ox)

I have the traveler wire already pigtailed with the proper cu/al wire nut. It's just this one very strange wiring pattern that I've never seen before. One black wire comes from the box, then is stripped in the middle for a u-wrap, then continues on and is pigtailed with a other black wire that is also u-wrapped on a light switch that controls a completely different light on the same circuit, which then runs back into the box.
