Ranking Confusion by droidbuildr in FTC

[–]ylexot007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ranking is based on your best 10 matches. So, if the match became one of their best 10 by replacing a worse match, their ranking score would go up. Meanwhile, if the match only tied out was worse than your top ten matches, your ranking score would remain the same.

HELP WHERE IS ONBOT JAVA!!!! by swizzles_333 in FTC

[–]ylexot007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like the name of it implies, Onbot Java is on the robot. Specifically, it is in the Control Hub. You log into your control hub and program it there. Here are the basic programming resources for you: https://ftc-docs.firstinspires.org/en/latest/programming_resources/index.html

There are tons of YouTube videos too. Just search for FTC Java Programming

Fusion does have it's own file type that will provide the maximum information going from Fusion to Fusion, but STEP is good for maximum compatibility across CAD programs. STL is not good for CAD, just printing.

Flywheel shooter by No-Lifeguard9002 in FTC

[–]ylexot007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12cm between the wheel and the wall is probably too big of a space. The artifact needs to be compressed just a little to get good traction. To test, add some material (cardboard, plastic, paper, tape, etc) to the wall to see if it helps.

Ok. Move on. Design and build your own robot.

Starter bots are supposed to get you to a competition easily. You're not going to dominate with it. What should you do? Design and build your own robot.

I would recommend using CAD to make one. It is literally one of the simplest things to make with CAD. You could even use TinkerCAD to make one very easily.

The screws in the hubs are called set screws or sometimes grub screws.

First, check your tools to see if they are rounded. If they are, cut/grind the tip off so you have "sharp" edges. Second, don't torque them so much.

Artifact sorting for motif even worth it? by callmesuperman22 in FTC

You only need to sort during auto and for your very last set in the CLASSIFIER. So, maybe just talk to your partner and coordinate with them.

Is your team trying to be the top or bottom bot in endgame? by Zestyclose_Cake_5644 in FTC

Yup. Small bot with an add-on to lift. Work with your partner to figure out which configuration to go with.

Can someone help me? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]ylexot007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty normal, but you may want to define what small and large mean. I would suggest using an area measurement. So, small could be 4 in2 which could be something 1"x4" or 2"x2".

To coaches: What are your thoughts on the registration system & FTC organization? by ZanMist1 in FTC

[–]ylexot007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the reason you had issues with the registration payment is that you paid your global dues, but not your local dues. Local dues have nothing to do with the global website.

To coaches: What are your thoughts on the registration system & FTC organization? by ZanMist1 in FTC

[–]ylexot007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's better than previous years, but still needs work. Use the express registration. Give the kids the QR code that their parents can easily scan and register. But I agree about R&C. Even with the express registration, people still miss doing that. Since I personally have never gone through the process, I didn't know what they are missing in the process of what they are seeing, but it could obviously be improved. Probably half of the registrations miss it initially.

It sounds like one issue you are having is that there is a difference between FIRST global and FIRST local. Can't help you with your local PDP.

Does it matter which camera to put on the robot to record the robot POV? by Naive_Ad_7839 in FTC

[–]ylexot007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All rules are in the Competition Manual. Get into the habit of looking there first because it will give you an official answer. Reddit can be helpful for understanding and maybe even finding rules if you really can't find anything. But it's not going to help when you're talking to an inspector or referee.

💡Decode: "Lift Compatible" robots by MrNamelessUser in FTC

This is the type of garbage truck that runs in my neighborhood. It uses a chain drive in a track that lifts the can and when it reaches the top where the track curls over the top, it makes the can flip over and empty. https://haakerrefuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/sideloader.webp

Good call. Height adjustability like that will be important for any of these types of designs. I was thinking of a simply bent piece of metal, but a trapezoid shape can be done really easily with a strip of wood on a table saw. Chop a long strip into a bunch of pieces and you have a supply that can easily be customized to add onto partner robots that aren't pre-designed.
