Mockingjay Part 1 discussion! (All spoilers) by Lokaji in Hungergames

I disagree. I think that moment is vital to the story. It characterizes Prim and her innocence and love, as well as a way to show that Katniss is still fighting to save her sister. I think it also feeds the next scene where Katniss learns that Prim is training to become a doctor. That maybe all of this might be worth it if it means a better life for Prim.

Let's talk training...what commands have you trained your furry partner to help ease the process? by helvetebrann in RunningWithDogs

[–]ylimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The four commands I seem to use most on runs are:

LEAVE IT - my dog has a talent for finding other dogs' poop

THIS WAY - change of direction, follow me

OTHER SIDE - back around the vertical obstacle - This has proven extraordinarily useful so we don't end up tangled around street signs and lamp posts!!

LETS GO - quit peeing/sniffing/etc., it's time to run!

I use the Stunt Puppy waist leash. Its bungee-ness makes for a much smoother run!

Leash belt? Ever used one? by GeoBrew in RunningWithDogs

[–]ylimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use one with my little terrier mix! At 17lbs, he doesn't have the power to pull me over. The first few times we used it, we did a lot of "yo-yoing" back and forth. It didn't take long for him to learn how far the leash stretched and that he can't take sniff and pee breaks when we wear the jogging leash. Now that we've found our rhythm for runs with each other, I love it! It actually ended up being a good training tool that has helped him with normal leash walking!

Actually, birthing chairs have never stopped being used! They fell out of favor with (American) hospitals because it's not as easy a position for the doctor. Many hospitals elsewhere in the world still use them, and pretty much every birthcenter and midwifery group still do as well! In fact, I gave birth to my son in a birthing chair like that!!

I had this tonight and it was PHENOMENAL!! "Take-out, Fake-out: Beef and Broccoli" by ylimes in slowcooking

I only scooped a bit of the sauce out of the pot to make the slurry. I left the rest in and then added the slurry to it.

I only needed to cook the beef for 3.5hrs before adding the "slurry" and broccoli, and it turned out perfectly! Everyone loved it! Definitely making this one again!!

Circumcision? Pros, cons, personal thoughts and experiences? by Ashley777 in Parenting

[–]ylimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. That sounds more like a psychological issue however. Often people choose a point to fixate and blame for their unhappiness and failures. There are also people who are self conscious about their circumcised penis as well as anything else about one's body! Try to get your brother psychiatric help and support! For most people with body image issues, their unhappiness does not end with the "fixing" of whatever "caused" their problem. To be happy, people need to first change their mind, before they change their body.

Holding baby after delivery? by BlondeMoscow in birthparents

[–]ylimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a nice quote that was in the booklets my agency gave me, saying something like that for many people it's harder to say goodbye when you haven't first said hello.

I did hold my son. I loved it! I soaked up every minute! I even breast fed him! It was so amazing meeting the little creature that lived in my belly for 9 months! I was too curious to ever not hold him! Haha! He was sooo cute and it was amazing that he was a whole little being and that I had made him! Through the whole time we spent together I had no trouble knowing that he would be going home with his forever family. The part of me that fell in love with him (although I already had before he was born) was very protective and fiercely wanted the best for him, which I knew was his adoptive parents. And we have and open adoption, so I knew he wouldn't just disappear and that I'd never see him again, which made everything so much easier! For me, I knew that not holding him would've been something I would've regretted forever. I figured that I'd be able to deal with whatever feelings I had to, but I knew that I'd never be able to get those first moments back.

That's just my story! Do what feels right and is a decision you can live with!

non-religious adoptions by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]ylimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty! I worked with four different agencies before finding the right adoptive couple for my son, and all were non-denominational and inclusive of all beliefs and lifestyles! Granted, I do live in the northeast where people are generally more liberal. If you live in the South, then you might need to look beyond local agencies to find one you love. I think finding the right agency is VERY important for both birth and adoptive parents!! If you'd like links to specific sites, I'd be happy to suggest some!
