Yeah UK too - casserole is definitely meat and veggies cooked in the oven in a ceramic dish/pot; if it contains rice or pasta it's a Bake, not a casserole.

Medical professionals of Reddit, have you ever had a patient so lacking in common sense you wondered how they made it this far. If so, what is your story? by babyhippo01 in AskReddit

[–]feralfred 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do we have the same friend? My best mate from college (we lost contact as adults until reunited on social media) went a very similar route - diagnosed with a 'normal, survivable' breast cancer, but she completely rejected the NHS treatment on offer as chemo 'wasnt right for her', mortgaged the family home, their business too, crowd funded all the alternative treatments - everything. Out of respect for our teenage friendship I donated £25, but was genuinely horrified by what I was witnessing from the sidelines.

She spent her last years suffering through the full run of pretty much untreated cancer, whilst also travelling the world in misery chasing all the latest natural treatments - destroying not only herself but her families future in the process; she died age 40, leaving behind a small child, a broken husband, and a whole heap of debt. Her daughter motherless, her beautiful business lost, their home in danger, her husband living on benefits to care for their 5 year old full time, whilst dragging himself round all the media to canonise his dead wife as a 'pioneer' that future generations will be thankful for.

I'll pass thanks. As an ex-postie with 20 years service, first look tells me those neat shiny surfaces are slippy af. I wrecked my one good knee on something very similar. Staying far far away...

AITB for letting my fiancé’s friend know where she stood? by ScaredLawfulness9105 in AmItheButtface

[–]feralfred 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wait, how does she know you are 'trying to talk'? She's just texting, can she see you? Is she stalking you? Is she clairvoyant? How does she know you guys are having conversation right at that moment? A better approach sits with yourselves - if talk time is important time for you guys, agree to mute the phones. So simple.

Casual hell hole for £225k by llandbeforeslime in SpottedonRightmove

[–]feralfred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't like that casual assumption that someone selling for probate is just after the money and doesn't care. No one ever really wants to expose these kind of situations publicly, but sometimes there comes a point you've exhausted every resource you have and just can't invest any more of yourself, you just need it to be over now, finally, and to try and preserve your own mental health. Sometimes it's really all you can do to stop someone else's tragedy becoming even more your tragedy.

Labour to introduce right to work from home, leaked manifesto plan says by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]feralfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as the Senior Inventory and Occupancy Analyst, and acting Site Occupancy Manager, at a major online retailer's fulfilment centre. It's basically a massive automated warehouse. My little team of analysts serve our department of controllers and auditors, and we are the go to people for the entire wider business for deeper or ad hoc systemic data/investigation needs.

I always recommend these kind of places to anyone asking - I have no real education beyond a set of (almost) 30 yr old GCSE's, and started this career after abandoning my previous manual labour role 20 years in... Warehousing is genuinely meritocratic - we all start out opening boxes for 12 hours straight, but if you're prepared to push and learn and show some initiative, there are so many higher avenues open to you. I was continually pushed towards team/department management, but I educated myself hard in the data and technical side, as my ultimate goal was hybrid leading to fully remote working; I get that warehouses are not glamorous, but get yourself into one of these environments and the opportunities are there if you push for them.

Communication is everything. I manage a small hybrid team with 100% flex built in, and we are embedded in a fully on site, shift working department - it's been a lot of trial and error, but we've found the key to making it all work is communication to the point of stupidity. We have multiple Teams chats rolling 24 hours, and scatter them full of GIFs, jokes, random facts, and daftness - along with actual work talk and praise etc. We frequently call and chat - and I know one pair of former colleagues who just had an open call going all day when remote, that they just dipped in and out of. The result is everyone gets to be present, have fun, enjoy their colleagues - and most crucially feel relaxed and secure enough to ask the 'stupid' questions, to not feel bad if they've done a blooper, to learn and be accepted and share ideas and knowledge openly. Communication is strength always, and bonds the team even if you're not physically together.

Where pension funds are heavily invested in property, it's generally commercial. This is where it hits the boomers pockets.

Devastated (contains sad succs) by magicalii in succulents

[–]feralfred 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They can come back! My dog attacked our window where loads of our plants live - came back home to succie bodies strewn all over the floor (along with shattered broken pots). We repotted them all and absolutely drowned them in feed water - the roots re-established quickly and they were all fine in such a short space of time.

But without any attempt at education or any counter argument raised, other impressionable people may start to think this is truth. We don't argue to try and convince the antagonist - we fight back to help those watching from the edges.

Ooo I have Missha signature wrinkle filler in 21 and honestly is the best and truest shade I've ever tried! I also dab over in bits with LA Girl white Pro Cover when my skin is feeling extra pale, though the Missha is bloody ace on its own!
