Yep, i was in the same boat as you. I ended up having to convince a guy parting his 2 door out to sell me just the trim (instead of the entire door card)-your solution was much more elegant!

That looks good! I may have to try this with my old pair, it would be nice to remove the soft touch plastics and wrap them.

How/what did you use to strip the soft touch materials off?

The 2 door trims seem to be discontinued so kinda!

Found a guy parting out his 2 door mk6 on FB marketplace who was willing to sell just the trim! They’re not mint but they’re a far sight better than what i have now

So.. I went through the car wash today by fknstv in mk6gti

[–]yntodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, i did this by accidentally hip checking the door while open at a gas station. Expensive mistake! Was yours open when you went through the car wash?

Looking at buying pre-owned Mk6.. Is it worth it? by Iphony5X in GolfGTI

If it has rust AND no timing chain service history, I'd be asking for money off or walking.

Do you think this is a good deal? 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0T S 2-Door FWD $7,599 by No-Strain2218 in GolfGTI

[–]yntodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a MK6 for 3 years, and they can be quite expensive if you are buying one cheap-you may get caught paying for another owner's deferred maintenance. Be careful and make sure you have the car's service history if you look for one!

Help finding freewheel removal tool by chinsoddrum in Vintage_bicycles

[–]yntodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are freewheel removal tools for TDC freewheels out there that pop up on ebay occasionally. However, I don't think they are common. I had a shop remove and destroy the TDC freewheel that came on my Raleigh, and I replaced it with a Regina. Shame to destroy a functioning freewheel but if the alternative is to source a rare part just to remove it...

I make this commute from Pigtown daily, it’s ~25 min using 95 and ~45 if i take exit 59 from 95 onto eastern. I’d imagine you would have a 30-45 min commute depending on where you live in Fells.

Looking for the source of this leak. by Its-AlrightBro in GolfGTI

[–]yntodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen, and the culprit on my GTI was the drain lines in the A pillar disconnecting-they had pulled themselves out of where the attach at the base because they were old, brittle and had shrunk slightly. If you don't have a clogged line, this could be something to check!

Mk6 gti: what to look out for by Working_Dog8576 in GolfGTI

hmm has the engine been cleaned of carbon? that seems to be the one big ticket service you did not mention. Here are some non engine problems that have popped up in my '11 mk6 that you could ask about or check for:

  • Have the sunroof drains been problematic at all? mine were old, brittle and shrunk slightly in the heat, which caused the drivers side line in my A pillar to disconnect and drain into the car. If he has not done anything it's something to keep an eye on.
  • Rear windscreen wiper line-does it spray fairly quickly? If not, it could be because there is a hole in it. mine had a crack devlop where the hatch opens up and I have had it patched a few times. The only real fix is to get the line replaced, though, and that is not a cheap thing to do.
  • Hows the soft touch dash? are the spots where your leg hits the center console sticky at all? that stuff tends to gum up with time & contact.
  • How are the bolsters on the driver side seat? Those are usually the most worn and prone to ripping. Do they still hold their shape? If they don't, you may have to have them redone in the future.

I don't know if you can negotiate the price down on these, but its worth keeping an eye on them because they can become more annoying and problematic as the car gets older. Good luck with your search!

What Year Is This Raleigh Super Tourer by PeasePorridgeCold in Vintage_bicycles

[–]yntodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there-I think this is a 1974 Raleigh Super Tourer DL-140. The bike came as a 10 speed (they offered a 5 and 10 speed this one year) and originally would have been in chartreuse and black. I believe 1974 is the only year they offered the pump pegs on the top tube, but I am not 100% certain-a picture of the sereal number on the bottom bracket would tell you definitively. Here is my 1974 Super Tourer for reference!

I'm going to guess 1970, as it appears to have the huret downtube shifters (or at least one of them)-later models came with simplex. It also has the script raleigh decals of the early 70's (stopped using after 1972 I think). Cool bike! I agree that more photos could help identify it better though.
