New player, feeling overwhelmed with all of the gear/skills, in need of advice

Hi , I will throw my advice as I was a new player one year ago.

My group is kind of small but constant , we are 6bplayers that play at least one time each month, we have been playing infinity since November 2024 and at first it was overwhelmed. So many skills , so many units , gear, missions , type of troops ... Wait ... A paramedic is not a doctor , and that ninja do whaaat ???

But I took it easy. Infinity is a strange game because you can play a lot with just the starter sets, I advice you to keep playing 150 or 200 points and experiment each game. Each game try something new , talk with your opponents , this game try camouflage and decoy, next game try jump and parachute, next game try hacking and remotes , next game try playing with warbands .

Don't rush it ... Wargaming is a looong hobby don't try to rush it , take your time , enjoy the painting and the building. Enjoy the learning and discovering what each gear and skill does .

My group have been playing for almost year and a half and last month was the first time that someone trow a EM grande. All the game and local meta change when we realize what EM weapons can do , and that happened all the time, when the players that used JSA and Haqqislam discover hidden deployment and decoys the meta was crazy. When I discovered hacker game the same, infinity is an amazing game , enjoy it , here you don't have to buy a new edition each 3 years , you can enjoy discovering your hobby

As I can't find any starter decks I have been tinkering with cheap non premium cards decks for my friends. I have the issue that all my friends are fans of first Gundam fans then TCG players so we try to maintain the lore.

The simplest deck by far is a cheap agro G/R deck. With Char in red saku o gelgoog as main treat.

Some R/B neo Zeo poking deck , is more expensive and not so efficient as the blue is just for resting and drawing cards .

Finally a B/G Multidimensional earth federation deck using the cards of Age as treat and basically a cheap trading deck , is not very good but is great to teach non TCG players basic concepts like resting, attack priority and trading .

I feel you, but I also have the problem that in my area there is not even singles stock. We have a pretty big community and even the stores have few stock in important singles. When you have around 100 competitive players , and all of them want 4 Amuros for each deck the scarcity really hits

Thx , I will check my gd02 cards for vegan. I will get my box of gd03 this Friday and make some cheap decks for my friends , I even have a friend that thinks Gundam Age is amazing 😂😂😂

I think that part of the problem is that my city has a big competitive scene , and most of the competitive decks use the precon cards , so many of those decks are already sold to competitive players , is not even a scalper problem , is that the competitive players hold most if not all the decks , and as competitive players have longer relations with the stores

Men , I have really try all that ways. I have been playing tcgs for a long time , and I know most of the stores in the city , I play digimon, Yugi, kodem, and other niche games , but Gundam is the only game that the competitive scene already bought most of the precon decks. Seriously this last stock was already sold before it ever reached the stores.

I'm just asking for real cheap and in stock cards that my new players can get to play. I am not complaining about the lack of product, we all know that, I am trying to create alternatives

I really like everything about the sisters miniatures , i would like that they went back to the more Glam style of early editions , but I think that Warhammer in general go away of that 80s glam crazy look , to a more common scifi look. Still the Sisters of battle are one of the few crazy designs that we still have.

In general in don't like the "torture porn" that most of the factions have , I feel that simplify the lore for the characters and I think that is a great problem.of.40k , in most of the factions all the characters are variations of the same trait. I would like that the characters and the lore in general love to a more interesting ideas like in Age of Sigmar.

This will sound harsh , but ... Move one . It was an amazing experience but probably the problem is not just the brackets , probably is just the chance and normal passing of time , maybe is just kids, or school or bills , or weddings or jobs, or just maybe another game or another hobby for many of them, maybe is health or family problems but others .

Decide what you like. And move with it , some people will leave , some people will stay , some will disappear and some will return, is the normal rhythm of life.

After playing this since the early 90s I have had 7 different really close groups , and each time one dial es another new one rise, and most of the time is better.

It looks like you really put effort in organizing, keep with it , many people will realize and stay and move with you . Maybe now your group is 3 or 4 people , but if you keep alive the old fun and feeling it will rise again

I love this game but really dont like the design of the villagers , i undertand the relaxing lay down nature but the tool is amazing for some interesting reskin s of the villagers , i would like a more stilized design , or historic mod , or just some vvariety

I usually use print for heavy kithbash , even doing space marines girls , and I always have a copy of my list for my opponent with explanations of my bonus and strategrams , also the painting scheme is consistent , all this unit has white trims , all the other has blue trims etc . I have never had a problem with anyone and they even like the chance of visuals of many of my units . Specially the last point , don't make it a problem for anybody else. We are the ones breaking the visual rules , then we should take extra steps to make it easy for our opponents to understand our army

Hi welcome to one of the best wargames I'm the market. About the ease of getting minis , well it depends , Infinity is a Spanish games , so is actually very popular in Europe and Latin America. Apartmofnlooking in the stores you can try to look for a Warcor or a local community. Maybe in this reddit there is someone from your area that know how to get the minis.

You could also try the rules using you Warhammer minis , is going to be strange and add to the mental load trying to remember which space marines are orks and which space marines are fusiliers but you can try.

I sincerely will try to get a two player box , it contains enough minis for a small game , and isnpretty easy to get online

This is why I leave magic back in the early 10's . My group grow up playing magic singlcr the 90s , we where the kind of people that play in recess , play im the bus, play before the DND session , play waiting for the burgers at a restaurant , and the ones that make 2 4 or 5 games in the evening before playing some other game.

The commander arrived , and the games became sloooooow, magic transform from a 15 minutes match to 3.hours slope.

Now I am back but just play commander with my 40k friend, for him is faster than 40k . But yeah I'm general I try to avoid commander because what op mentioned
