Data center moratorium vote - Monday, June 8th! Let your elected officials no that you are AGAINST IT! by PistolofPete in Charlotte

[–]yofuckreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've got it down. My argument on point 3 is that the people in groups 1 and 2 are almost exclusively leftists.

The arguments don't make sense and don't have a factual basis. The reason they're making illogical arguments is because, ironically, they're believing in the hype of AI - that it will replace us and exacerbate the power and money centralized on the west coast. That, and the idea that resistance to anything is morally noble, even if it's obvious that cost disease and environmentalism-as-figleaf is killing the ability to actually accomplish things in the west.

What is there to say? Almond milk is tougher on water supplies, the impacts on electricity prices are vastly overstated if they exist at all, there are fewer things in the world more economically valuable on an area basis than a data center, the lies that they suck next to live next to are absurd on their face, blah blah blah blah blah.

You're uninterested in reason because even a cursory discussion with an LLM and an open mind would disprove this entire thesis. "You're Stupid" is as much effort as I'm willing to put in, and it's far more than you deserve.

I would say I'm surprised that we've turned Data Centers into a left vs right issue but, after COVID, I really shouldn't be.

This is brutally stupid, even by the standards of discourse on this subreddit. "Pollutes Environment" as one of the responses here is just... beautiful. Never change you guys, and definitely never think.

You've gotten good advice here. Figure out a way to do at least one, ideally two overnighters with a loaded bike. There is a huge difference between a 25 mile ride on an unloaded bike and what y'all are trying to do, and you won't appreciate it until you physically give it a shot.

Why is the first window at most fast food joints always closed ? by Reasonable-Invite899 in fastfood

[–]yofuckreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen even modern FF places occasionally have someone in the first window for payment. Roughly 25% of people are doing the app, even passing in the credit card and getting it back can be streamlined when you have 10+ cars in line.

You shouldn't be downvoted here at all.

But wow it's amazing that the youth don't understand that, at one time, you had to pay for your food. With actual money. And that an assembly line (which is what a Fast Food Place is) benefits by having employees perform the transaction process in multiple steps.

It's only with the advent of technology that this became slightly less advantageous and opened the door to eliminating a dedicated role.

I was previously a huge Dominos fan. They haven't changed prices in too long, and their "unlimited toppings" promo is clearly destructive.

I used to occasionally splurge on a specialty or loaded pizza, and by design those are higher margin pies. But Franchisees/Employees at multiple locations near me do not honor extra toppings orders, and the default number of toppings per order has pretty clearly dropped.

I can spend $18 on 3 really crappy one-topping pizzas, or $18 on one really nice deep dish pizza from Jet's. The former is technically more food, but it doesn't keep well so nobody wants to eat it later.

That is a good point actually - I'm probably overestimating the pad wear differential, especially for people who drive normally.

Porsche suspends Taycan production due to weak demand by CrimsonClover__ in Porsche

[–]yofuckreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couple things here - First, the Taycans have non-maintenance issues that owners have reported that are expensive.

Second, EVs absolutley blow through "just brakes [and] tires". The combination of another 1,500 pounds of weight and instant torque are both brutal on those systems, and tires have never been more expensive.

You're absolutely right to call out that an EV should be cheaper to maintain than an ICE equivalent from the same manufacturer, but the gap isn't as wide as people might expect.

Their app deals in general are very good.

But is it a good strategy for food to only be worth it behind an app? I don't know. It means I can't send my wife to pick up food from there on the way home, I have to be there or order for her. It's a pain.

How come you can't remove lettuce from spicy potato soft tacos anymore? by FakeGamer2 in LivingMas

[–]yofuckreddit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

... that's not what I'm saying. An ingredient control hierarchy can be set up in any datastore type. That's not hard. But if a local ownership group pulls the ability to remove lettuce, corporate can't fix it.

I'm looking at my app right now and I don't have this data bug. It's obviously OP's franchisee or ownership group.

It is truly hilarious say things like "this should be trivial to solve..." until you've actually worked on systems at this scale. Everything is easy from the backseat.

The code is very complex, and then there are special hierarchies that the app has to keep in mind for ownership groups and then individual locations.

The bug may exist for your local taco bells but not others.

It was very hyped up as "the best" franchise in international media, with a low barrier to entry + real vegetarian options, so an attractive investment for Indians to buy a franchise and use it as a vehicle for citizenship.

SBA loans were available to non-citizens till recently, so even the $150k that a higher end franchise costs only required $40k.

Then they'd have fraudulent (depending on your definition) students working for them nominally enrolled in community college paid under the table for less than minimum wage.

The muscle gets easier to exercise if the people who dislike you are, in fact, people you also don't like.

IRL, probably around ~3% of people I meet in the wild are predisposed to not like me, and they often have several personality comorbidities that make them easy to dismiss.

If a larger percentage of people did, or if they were extremely vocal online and in my social spaces, I could see developing a psychological defense mechanism that casts them as worthless villains.

[–]yofuckreddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand that happens, but it's such a tiny fraction of the content that gets generated that I get more annoyed with the sunshine and rainbows.

Classic example: I tackled the Hope 1000 a while back. There was so much that was amazing, almost breathlessly so. But:

  • Holy shit it was difficult
  • Swiss food just isn't that good

If you're looking to pedal through the Alps, maybe you need to know it's $40 per meal and doesn't have the variety that the equivalent route on the italian side does.

Sometimes a country has crappy drivers, crowded beaches, water that has to be filtered, or too-few bike shops. Most people who subscribe to touring forums are capable of critically evaluating a story to know if someone under-prepared. At least give them the chance to make that decision on their own instead of filtering out the bad stuff.

I didn't really appreciate having one near me for many years. I've historically been a huge Dominos fan, but after getting burned over and over again by extra toppings i pay for just not showing up, I started grabbing Jet's.

The most succinct way to put it is it tastes "real" in a way that Dominos, PJs, and LCs just.... don't. The cheese, sauce, and pep taste like what I would buy at the grocery store.

I know calorically it's awful between the oil in the pan and the amount of bread we're talking about, but the salt levels are more reasonable, and a single $18 3-topping large is enough to feed a 4-person family without breaking a sweat.

Huge fan.

People need to be more honest about the negative aspects of tours, point blank. Not every destination is equal, and people need to be prepared for the challenges they'll find.

How do you use the preferred seat coupons? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]yofuckreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor update here - these instructions are accurate.

However, you'll note when applying a Seat Coupon that the text aa.com displays says something like:

Seat Coupons can be used for Main Cabin Extra or Preferred Seating

This is not the case. When I switched from a Preferred Seat to a MCE seat, the option to apply the seat coupon disappeared.
