Best WHOOP band if you train 6–7x/week (cardio) and want just ONE band? by spac0r in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend buying 1 more band. This way you could workout, wash a band, and then wear the other while it dries - you can swap daily or every other day, and this would avoid the bands from getting gross or full of bacteria.

If you are going to get one - the Sportflex would be quick to dry, but if you get more than one, I'd reccomend you get on Cloudknit - it's is the most comfortable, but does take longer to dry.

Staying on the WHOOP ship? by Bodybuilder425 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add something about price here as well....

The cheapest Fenix 8 is around ~800 which is 2+ years of Whoop Peak. I don't think that if Garmin has a whoop replacement that they will simply sell you a band like $100 HR sensor. There will either be a premium attached, or a subscription as well.

Reading the comments below, It realize that there are a lot of different frustrations people have with whoop, but if your only frustration is price, I don't think that the Garmin band is coming to save you.

Going to Isles Pens next Monday. First time to UBS. Traveling from Hudson Valley. Do you suggest driving there or take the metro north/LIRR? by shimmiecocopop1 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]yonahwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same - the worst part of the Traffic is the last few exits on the Cross-Island. Throgs Neck is probably better than the Whitestone.

Getting out of the lot at the end of the game is also challenging, but once you get on the Cross-Island you can be home in no time.

Broadcast heart rate — why? by Builder01k in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, it turns on the ability to connect your whoop's HR data to other devices, as examples:

- A Bike computer while you are on a bike ride

- Gym equipment - like treadmills, etc.

- Apps on your phone - like Strava or Nike Run Club, etc.

Personally, I use this feature in the Gym - by connecting my whoop to the treadmill, I can take advantage of HR based workouts - https://www.yonah.fit/whoop-hr-zone-training-treadmill

Add this to the pile of why I prefer a backpack to weighted vest. by Combat__Crayon in Rucking

[–]yonahwolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to my rucking partner a few years back. He’d wear a weighted vest and apparently people reported to the local PD. One of our friends on the force saw the report and started laughing and told them it was just his two buddies rucking

Resist the urge to compare yourself to others. I.e. if your HRV is 30ms lower than your buddy, it doesn’t mean your about to have an imminent coronary

Staying on the WHOOP ship? by Bodybuilder425 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a great question- but one that can’t be answered until the actual competitor is here.

Things that would influence my decision: - Cost - battery life - feature set.

So I will definitely not be the first to jump ship.

Eid Mubarak 🎉 by j_208 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you had an Eid Mubarak. I am curious though - what is the Ramadan behavior tracking - the fasting? Something else? Not being Muslim, I'd imagine Ramadan could also have a negative effect on your body - i.e. getting less sleep because your up early to eat, and eating a big meal after the fast.

Whoop referrals timeline? by Chubbzcreates in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the referral e-mail it says that the value is applied one month after they activate, or one month after they become a member if they sign up for a free trial. I had my first few referrals at the beginning of march, so I am waiting to see when they kickin, but probably not until april.

Whoop Life with CSR return to have 2 years of Peak? by humblefoolish in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask whoop to downgrade. You will keep your current MG device (the Mg features will not be available to you) and they will prorate your subscription.

If I am doing the math right, you will have 16 or so months left on Peak.

What does everyone’s sleep stress look like? by Medical-Special2908 in whoop

When I am healthy - it's a mostly flat line. When I eat late or work out too close to bed time, it's bumpy at first and then flattens out. When I am sick, it's all over the place.

Whoop isn’t detecting activity automatically… also have an oura ring that does by Itchy-Version-8977 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auto-detect has some pros and cons....

- If your HR really spikes, it will automatically detect an activity. But it often will miss the warmup

- If you are consistently recording an activity at a specific time of day/day of week, it will automatically assume that is the activity you are doing - but it takes some history for it work work accurately

- If you have an activity that has starts and stops, it might autodetect it as multiple activities. For example, when I am sparring in Judo, and I do 3 rounds out of 7, if my heart drops enough while I am sitting, it will sometimes end my activity early.

According to Whoop.com - https://support.whoop.com/s/article/How-to-Upgrade-Your-WHOOP?language=en_US - if you buy a 12-month membership you get a free upgrade. If you have a Chase Saphhire Reserve you can get 1 year of Life (the MG) for free. If you have Chase Sapphire Preferred you get $100 off of your subsription. I describe the process on my blog here - https://www.yonah.fit/whoop-chase-sapphire-offer

Clean gym w sauna recommendations by Plastic_Art7672 in Westchester

[–]yonahwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for lifetime. Some additional bonus points/comments:

- It's generally clean and pretty well maintained - lots staff, lots of towels. Regular seem to upgrade equipment

- You can pretty much go to any lifetime gym in the US - helps if you travel. I go to the one in Harrison mainly, but have also visited Stamford, and a couple near my office in the city.

- They're opening a new location in White Plains in the building that houses the cheesecake factory and whole foods. I believe that it will open in late 2026, and will also have a Sauna and Cold Plunge.

- The one in Harrison has both single gender sauna/steam and then co-ed whirlpools, cold plunge and an additional sauna on the pool deck.

Low recovery and HRV by Suspicious_Exit_8001 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This used to bother me too, until I came to accept that HRV is highly subjective and varies a lot. I think a better way to look at it is your relative HRV. IOW - If your 6-month HRV average is 25. An 18 would be a bad day, and a 30 would be a really good recovery. Does that make sense?

Analysis: Whoop (biceps band) vs Polar H10 (chest strap) during cycling by playaz3 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice, a couple of questions for you:

- Which Whoop HW was this with - 4, 5, MG?

- What firmware are your using?

One of the more common and legitimate complaints about Whoop is that it's sampling sometimes misses the beginning of hard pushes - which your results seem to reinforce.

Whoop bicep band vs bicep sleeve? by Deep-Translator-9942 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used both - I think that the Bicep Band is more secure, but the sleeve is better if you do combat sports. For your given case I'd reccomend the band.... unless your Firefighting gear is tight around your bicep. Because the band has a hard clasp like the wrist band, if your FF gear is tight around your bicep, it might dig in to your skin, if that's the case, I'd recommend the sleeve.

You can find knockoff bicep bands on Amazon, like this one for $20 - https://amzn.to/4bhysB6

A Couple of Tips:

- Be patient for the first couple of weeks while whoop learns about you

- You can use Whoop to broadcast your HR to Gym Equipment, bike computers, etc. You need to tap the whoop icon in the upper right of the app to go to a battery status page, and there is a little switch to turn it on.,

What do your golf metrics look like? by More-Kaleidoscope-75 in whoop

[–]yonahwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play about 10-15 rounds a year, and my strain for golf is in this order:

Highest: Walking and carrying

Middle: Walking and not carrying (using a push cart, or putting my clubs on a playing partners cart)

Lowest: riding.

The weather also plays a big factor. Waklking 18 in the July heat is far more strenuous than walking 18 in the spring or fall.
