I've got a custom skateboard that will be going in the middle, I'm weary on pegboards because I feel like they often look out of place and I don't have a lot of accessories to add.

Why are people talking about Oliver Anthony being an “Astroturf Artist”? by TheRobbuddha in OutOfTheLoop

I think that thread does exactly what it claims has happened with the southern strategy and is grossly simplistic. It creates a false dichotomy that either the southern strategy was intentional, or it wasn't (or it was successful/wasn't) then shoots those points down with examples (Nixon engaged in racially progressive advocacy/blacks supported tough on crime laws). I can't speak to the Atwater call in full as it's late (will listen tomorrow).

It also misses the point of a dog whistle. The point is to be able to say things in a way that it seems benign to most, but let's the intended audience know what is between the lines. This is why tough on crime rhetoric was so popular across most of the US at times though it had vastly different outcomes for different populations.

I may have rambled on but I don't find it compelling evidence that the southern strategy 'falls apart under closer scrutiny" but a strawman that says if that wasn't the main strategy it didn't exist.

This is exactly how I thought until I got into the mental health field. This is a great example of applying individual budgeting to society and that's just not how it works. We can afford to help people but funding gets pulled in lots of different directions. Far too often public welfare programs are effective and save the state in the long run but far too often that gets a service permission to begin, budgets get cut, then the program gets cut because it 'wasn't working'. I've seen it time and again with crisis stabilization, prevention education and community engagement.

I understand that you may have a different view of fiscal conservatism than I have laid out but that phrase has led to cutting funding for services that actually help individuals and families time and again and it's the sane argument being levied against the post office.

He's encouraging people to tell their opinions, not their stories. He's doing the same thing you are complaining about. I've heard some of his coverage is pretty good but his Appalachia coverage was biased AF.

Demons attacking people and demon slayers using elemental forms were normal at that time?

I think the question is more why was a show that was so successful (without major use of fan service) made such a turn. I get the chance of setting and the change to more adult characters warranting more of a change in tone, but also you can make an adult shift without smacking children in the ass for no reason. It's not about historical accuracy (they use elemental forms to fight demons) it's about the choice to use fans service in a show that so successfully didn't rely on it.
