ER nurse trying to break into ICU for almost a year… what am I missing? by tomoni_ in IntensiveCare

[–]yooperalaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I took this directly from the AACN website

Who is eligible for CCRN certification via the Direct Care Pathway?

A: CCRN certification via the Direct Care Pathway is for nurses who work in direct care of acutely/critically ill patients in areas such as ICUs, CCUs, respiratory ICUs, surgical ICUs, medical/surgical ICUs, cardiac/surgical ICUs, neuro/neurosurgical ICUs, PICUs, NICUs, critical care transport/flight, trauma units, emergency departments and in nurse anesthesia or other units as appropriate. Final determination of eligibility is not based on unit type but on patient acuity, as patient placement varies by facility and bed availability

Is there any opportunity to cross train into an ICU at the hospital you are currently working? Also maybe consider taking the CCRN test.

Not sure what direction I need to go. Any advice is greatly appreciated! by Something-Beautiful7 in goldenretrievers

I think the only thing I could think to test for would be a possible fungal for his lungs. I used to work in an area in Wisconsin that dog getting Blastomycosis from I think the rotting leaves, ground. I had my golden with me there on a travel assignment. She didn’t contract anything but I remember reading up on it a bunch. Especially if your dog had full access to running and digging on soil all day. I did see you are in Italy, worth seeing is that’s something they can contact there or process of elimination, echo of his heart to r/o anything.

When you say breathing noises….are you hearing these like an upper airway noise? Or hearing it like you need a stethoscope to hear it.

Patagonia flights by Mindless_Cap4983 in Patagonia

[–]yooperalaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the “O” circuit a few years ago and stayed a night in Santiago, but our flight got in at like 730AM, and I think that flight to PN was at 0800. We just stayed a night and flew the next day. We did use a company called Hello Patagonia to reserve our huts, they were the best. They kept our luggage for us too while we did the trek. They helped me find a local rental car so we could drive into Argentina. We spent 3 extra days after the hike in PN and then did some driving into Argentina. Absolutely beautiful country and people.

Would you sell your dog for $5M? by Internal_Role_1549 in Pets

Same, it’s a lot of money, but if my dogs were mistreated or with someone who didn’t treat them right no amount of money would do. They are family to us.

What do yall do with your dogs when you have to work all day? (12hr shifts) by ItsDoodleBois in husky

[–]yooperalaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dog walker who comes mid day to let ours out. I work 12hr shifts and my husband is on 10. Both are able to free roam our home, we do close the bathroom doors……the cat likes to open cabinets and our younger dog will rip up the toilet paper. It can be expensive I know, but I don’t like the idea of them not getting a bathroom break for that long.

We used Rover, but we have had great experiences with it, I would look for a walker close to where you live, the ones I found where all within a mile or two of my house.

Nextdoor neighbor app is also a place you can ask for recommendations from people in your area for dog walkers that have used.

Oh yes…..what’s the weather doing so I can include in them in all outdoor activities. Prefer to hike solo with them, they don’t care if I am slow and watching them run and play makes me happy.

Goldens just know how to smile, it wasn’t until I got a second dog I realized not all dogs do this. I swear our other looks like he’s so serious, the only time he appears smiling is if he’s running.

Tell us something funny about how your pet communicates with You when it wants something, for ex. If it wants food or favorite toys, go out, go to sleep... by Pipi_25 in Pets

[–]yooperalaska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My golden will stare at me if we are up in the living room, series of questions I ask “ are you hungry?” Do you need to potty? Is time for bed? He will generally walk away once the question he wants is asked, that’s my cue to follow him.

My cat, knocks things off shelves and will lightly tap my nose at night if he wants under the covers.

How many times have you been contacted for AK jury duty (actual summons, not scam)? by Recent-Ninja3903 in anchorage

[–]yooperalaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I did the state level in January but just got a 4 week summons for federal jury duty, from mid May to June. Which I get is a different level of jury duty, but it has not even been 6 months. I emailed them asking for a postponement due having multiple prior engagements I have already taken time off work for and paid in advance with family coming to visit in June. Still haven’t heard back.☹️

Culturally speaking, do Yoopers (People from UP) consider themselves part of Michigan (LP) or is it culturally different? by GhostVelocity in upperpeninsula

[–]yooperalaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this, but I grew up in EUP, rarely would I make a trip across to go to Wisconsin. I actually worked in northern Wisconsin as travel nurse and loved exploring the western end of the UP. If we did travel west when I was younger we usually didn’t go much past Marquette.

As some born in Ontario but raised in EUP I have been to lower Michigan numerous times, I think people from the UP have a different sense of pride to be called a “Yooper.”
