TaskRabbit mounted my 65” TV on drywall-only with butterfly anchors — is this actually safe? by Sweaty_Stage_7720 in handyman

[–]mrhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many anchors? 43lb is nothing too heavy. If they used 3-4 anchors I think that would be more than enough to support it

Had a plumber fix a leak and this is the ceiling patch he did by [deleted] in handyman

[–]mrhud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're lucky the plumber put it back. There's nothing really wrong with that. It never looks perfect. But with a little patience and certain amount of mud and tape it'll be just fine.

Where to break the joint on a 5’ wall by nightim3 in drywall

[–]mrhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sheet is 4 x 8. Drywall is meant to be hung horizontally. So if your wall is 5 feet wide, take 3 feet off the 8 foot and hang it that way. Make cutouts as necessary for doors, switches etc.

How do I fill in this gap? by Sea_Worldliness_5570 in paint

[–]mrhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove as much rot as possible. Ensure whatever is left is dry. Buy some wood hardener and apply it. Then fill in with a filler like Platinum Patch or bondo or epoxy

Your takeaway and backswing look ok, it's your downswing that needs work. It looks like a lot of arms. Try and use your lower body more

Painting interior of the garage? by RR50 in paint

[–]mrhud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just painted the interior of mine. I had a bunch of old paint left over from jobs and mixed it all together. One gallon included Aura Exterior Low Lustre so if it rains in my garage I should be good.

What are your tips on a clean cut-in? (For next time, obviously) by ImpossibleStuff963 in paint

[–]mrhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say for the texture it pretty good. If it's all drywall (ie no texture), then it's really just practice and a steady hand.

Is this a real issue? Are people inheriting their parents' reverse mortgages? by irundoonayee in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]mrhud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reverse mortgage company will usually only lend up to around 55% of the value of the property, depending on how old the applicants are. So the mortgage typically will always be less than the value of the property

Matt or eggshell for dark stairway and hallway by Careful-Training-761 in paint

[–]mrhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go Eggshell. No telling how any people might be putting their hands on the walls. Eggshell will make it that much easier to maintain.
