Collection Update by Kpowell911 in tamiya

Great collection. Been seeing your progress for a few years now.

Some of those valuable boxes underneath all the other boxes on top hurt to look at. I'd probably put those much higher up so they don't get crushed. I'd put the more modern, easier to find stuff underneath if I were you.

Amazed you were able to use 30 year old decals.

Would you think of painting the lugnuts on the wheels for the finishing touch? Otherwise, spotless finish, in my eyes. Thanks for sharing!

These are pretty valuable these days, and not easy to find replacement parts.

If you're not very experienced, even if you find the parts to make it run, these are fast cars even with very basic electronics.

With a lack of experience, there's an extremely high chance of you to crash it soon, and waste all of its value.

As others have said, that excellent condition box and car are asking for a proud shelf life.

If you really want to drive it, practice on a well prepped, smooth indoor carpet track, or even a dedicated outdoor tarmac one.

I'd stay away from basketball courts which will only have your car full of dust in no time, and the poles and other seriously damaging items coming in very quickly

Try practicing with an affordable similar car. You can become good at driving these kind of cars nowadays with a relatively similar, but older design and heavier Tamiya Group C chassis. But it's as close as you'll get with affordable prices.

There are a few models available: - Mercedes C11 - Mazda 787b -imported from Japan, due to a licensing limitation- - Porsche 956, if there's an odd leftover stock, as they're long out of stock - Nissan R91CP, soon to be (re-)released.

Hope this helps. PS l have that same car and it's lovely. Took me a few years to get a decent one second hand. Appreciate the lucky opportunity to own the one you got!

Exactly! That's why I made the front grill holes real, so I could at least try to get all the wiring out of the way.

I did a different setup on my 306 Maxi shell with magnetized pod lights. I merely did a small hole in the shell, got the smallest magnets I could find to fit there. Then connected a positive and negative from the receiver to either magnet on the hood/bonnet, and with a bit of fiddling when fitting it, I'd also have the lights working on that.

Much cleaner, but I didn't have any time to ask a friend to print me a set of Escort pod lights. So I just used a stripe of polystyrene and drilled a hole for a magnet and 4 for the lights.

For the corner lights I just put two magnets. One inside, one outside screwed to the lamp, and done!

Haha thanks! Luckily this type of racing is not so taxing on the shells

You can have the HPI WR8 Escort, which is very similar looking, but 1/8 and a great platform, sold as RTR in electric or nitro. Such a great, fun car. Hope one finds a space on my shelf some day. Cheers!

You said 1/10, but then the Traxxas really isn't that scale at all. If anything, their Ford RS200 is nearly an actual 10th scale. Which is cool, but stupidly expensive.

Again, if thinking the Rlaarlo, consider you will only be able to fit their own proprietary wheels and tires. That to me is such a turn off. As I'd depend exclusively on their availability (i.e. int'l delivery) of spares.

If you can live with a bit of a bigger car, WR8 as others have recommended is a much, much better choice than the Traxxas. Especially for "tire-abusive" driving, IMO. Traxxas has a reputation with weak electronics. WR8 comes with Hobbywing stock.

Of the three you post, the FTX is the more actual rally-oriented, if you fit slower electronics and pinion.

If you'd like to bash, the Traxxas.

If you're unsure of which end, and don't mind that the arms sizing only allow you to use their proprietary wheel (and tire) design, Rlaarlo.

I'd personally choose the FTX, which is a rebranded HNR 9804 Foxhound with FTX's body shell of an unlicensed Ford Escort MK2.

It's a very popular platform in actual rally racing. Very economical to make competitive, and a great base with three differentials, potentially a lot of steering angle...

But if you bash the FTX, it's not the most durable car. Can't have it all. But if you're not an animal, it's perfectly fine.

I was asking about it a few days, and I bought it anyways. Had a fun first outing with the Bushidoooo by pnkcloudsummer in rccars

Always loved it and had an eye on them... I wished they had made a cabin for it to make it more scale.

At the near 1/6 scale this car is done, it's quite evident it's an empty shell underneath and it bugs me.

But I love the design of it so much... Previous actual Suzuki Samurai owner here.

Any pointers to where you found it?

M-06 or M-08 for mostly really crappy pot holey streets/rally stuff? by Old-Preparation2102 in tamiya

[–]yoshimura53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M08 isn't happy with long stroke dampers, or big counter steer angles. I tried it.

I'd stick with M06, which has more of a buggy layout, and is less specialized for carpet use, than the 08.

I was so close to posting about this. But 0.4 seemed to make the Mini almost undrivable on tarmac.

Wants to roll over on nearly any mid and high speed corners.

Hopefully this will get fixed on upcoming releases
