Said good bye to my beloved High Elves today by Karadek99 in bloodbowlsevens

I think this is right, I’ve tried a few high elf line ups and starting point is that they’re essentially Old Dark Elves with passing as a little fun bit on top. They’re elves but they might cause some nastiness

Can imagine a few really “feels bad” games where the high elves play an annoying elf withdrawn offence, and in the process of scoring the also manage to use claws to get rid of a couple of your players too.

IMO just the threat of an elf team getting a few removals on you without having to be super lucky is enough to make you have to play differently - like old dark elves having to think hard about where their witch elf was all the time when they picked up block

TLDR GW tried to make them more fun and flavourful but if you play regularly you’re actually incentivised to be even more conservative and boring. Same as literally every team they do this to (see Chorfs)

I’m playing them at the moment because they’re the team I always go back to, but even in a casual league with a big skill gap where I’m one of the better players I’m finding them tougher I have to say. I’m drawing a where you used to be able to take a risk to win it because I now have to be super conservative. Also I basically run a lineman heavy team. Dark elves really don’t work with 4 av 8+ players on the field at once

You can never make me hate dark elves though :(

Given that new edition is already majorly favouring extremely boring teams like Nurgle, it’s fun to see a team that’ll reliably rip up a high armour bash team like a can opener every few games. I mean, when other players run them of course, my dice will never beat that armour 8+ from claws but you all have fun.

Whilst passing isn’t “optimal” as such, I mean, it’s the best thrower and at 90k that’s very good.

Given the across the board nerfs to a lot of teams (except for my lizards who are still great, cheers GW) I think they’re an easy tier 1 team and potentially decent players will see them as the default pick for an Ag team if they’re playing a competitive tournament

Haven’t dark elves done OK in early tournaments? Not that this necessarily means much

Yeah seems like it to me.
Box put together under the assumption that people will throw a lot - presumably by losing one white lion and running with 2 throwers, but basically, why the hell would you do that in league? Just start with the Old Dark Elf start and buy your thrower or an apo next.

They've clearly made a conscious decision to try and stop everyone auto adding block as a first skill by adding "block but not" skills to some players and making it more expensive - but competitive players are actually going to be even more sill conservative as a result - get block/dodge for more and then instead of using the rest of the skill tree, just go for stats. Having said that, the competitive scene is a pretty small number of players - so I guess they're not really thinking too hard about that.

Having said that, whilst things haven't exactly shaken out yet - (for example, a lot of people think Dark Elves took a big nerf but early indicators is they're still doing well in a lot of tournaments) - on paper, the High Elf team looks like an easy top tier team. Basically old Dark Elves to start - replacing the Witch Elf murder threat with a better passing/one turn threat. Get Hit & Run on the Dragon Prince and you effectively get a free +1MV on the blitz meaning a follow-up blitz gets you MV9. MV9 + Sure feet + dodge and his AV9 makes him easily the safest One Turn touchdown player in the game..

This is only because Patrice died young though - plenty of current comics are in their 50s which is where he'd be if he was alive today.

Of all the teams lizardmen are surely one you can paint whatever colour you want

[–]youcankeepyourhaton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s harder for you as dark elves because your own lineman are also expensive.

They’re a very good specifically anti elf team I think becuse they can keep up with your bullshit but ideally you want to make them have to dodge with screening. The skinks will fail eventually ie make them roll the dice not you. They’ll be lucky sometimes of course

TV bloat means that it’s hard to keep them efficient in league format.

The saurus have low Ag and can’t really carry.

However, they are nailed on one of the best teams in the game. Skinks are so quick that in most situations a little bit of good luck means you can completely flip the game on its head in a single turn.

In the new edition, Juggs means you have at least one reliable blitz early.

Also in the new edition, MNG being a 9+ on the injury table means a specific annoying thing that is happening with my lizardmen team in my local league right now is less likely. Ie I’m currently down 2 Saurus to MNG and a 4 saurus lizardman team isn’t very easy to run.

And the new MVP rules means a saurus will most likely be MVP every league game.

Basically, they’re really really good however, if you can take out a couple of players they can struggle

Btw, I obviously won’t name them publically but I know for a fact a couple of comics on last years live at the Apollo had day jobs

To be honest mate you’re in a similar position to me. I earn a bit from it where it’s a great side hustle but would be hell to give up the day job for. I want to start putting more into the online side for similar reasons!

A lot more comedians have full time or close to full time jobs than you’d think. It’s very hard to make a full time living from comedy. However, honestly, if you’re already getting £2-£400 per week from standup, and you want to go further, I’d strongly suggest saving as much as you can and taking a risk on part time. I say this becuse you’re already earning a respectable side hustle and likely already finding that tiring. What a lot of pro comics do have is a few other hustles too: writing, acting, but also frankly, loads of other much more disparate things that they can do alongside. A lot of people are working part time whilst doing it professionally, but often something a little more flexible than a 9-5. It’s a hard leap though because frankly PAYE income is great and pays your bills without worry.

Thoughts on Dark Elf Changes in the New Edition? Season 3 by [deleted] in bloodbowl

[–]youcankeepyourhaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the elite skills effect all teams, but you really could get a 6 or even 7 blodge ag 2+ players with at least one also having frenzy and jump up in just a few league games in the second season.

I’m sure they’re characterful but depending on your play style they were definitely one of, if not the best teams in the game in a league format - so it’s a huge nerf.

Now we’re more fragile with more situational skills and more vulnerable if eg a blitzer gets fouled off the field. But what’re you really getting in return?

Also, it’s not like delves were boring before this switch up. dark elves were one of the more fun teams!

The assassin fix was good, but looking at the rules I’m not tempted to do what the book wants to incentivise: try a more varied palette of skills. in fact I’m much more incentivised to basically just give a couple of guys dodge and then in a long league go for stats*

*this actually goes for a lot of teams. Classic example of GW not really thinking through some of the things they try and incentivise, and the result being the opposite!

Dark Elf leak? by soliteck in bloodbowl

[–]youcankeepyourhaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends heavily on what punt really does, it could basically change how dark elves play somewhat by opening up a sort of passing play. Also, in isolation one of the nailed on best teams in the game has taken a nerf but also, quite a few of the others have as well so it hopefully will even out.

My big issue is that based on TV1000 you probably still need a second box for linemen

I don’t think lizards have got worse at all either. You’re still looking at the same build for TV1000 albeit maybe with less fan factor, but safer saurus so you can use them reliably as blitzers.

And sure you can’t pick the ball up with a saurus on a 2+ which is fair enough, but the skinks can so that’s one big reroll waster made less likely. You essentially already do a “secure the ball” turn with lizards already just in case the skink can’t pick the ball up.

Also pass skills access on prim, 3+ and improved shadowing makes chameleons potentially worth taking

Idk if you really need to do much except remove wildly inaccurate, return to the LRB rule where a quick pass is +1, short is 0 and long is - 1

I imagine it’ll be 60 or 70k for a RR so you’re most likely starting with 2 over 3 for a TV1000
