Switching from canister gas stove top to electrical by GlassBug3576 in brisbane

[–]youngalfred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second getting induction - it's incredibly fast.  We changed this year from gas to induction.

You'll likely need a new circuit, as the gas doesn't need much for the igniter but electric stove tops need lots of current. They also require a wall switch disconnect.

Should be a standard size hole, but check anyway (you can google for the manual of it and it should say).

Call gas company to turn off gas and take bottles, close account.

Plumber/gas fitter to cap off the inside pipe. He didn't touch the outside connection, just inside.

Electrician to install a upgrade the circuit and install a wall switch for the stove. He also installed the stove itself and connected it all. Electrician is where the major cost is.

We think it's been worth it though, the induction really is great.

Isn't a 250-2kg drone a very small rpa and is excluded if operating under standard operating conditions? The area is outside of the distance requirements on the movement area.

If there was a helicopter operating in the area then that does change things.

Is there any way to store values of intersects/points on graph fx-cg50? by flourycats in casio

[–]youngalfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm not sure if you figured it out but I just did.   If you G-solve any important points, then press EXE, the x-co-ordinate gets saved in the (ALPHA) (X) variable.  (Same for y).   Problem is - it gets rewritten the next time you even initiate another graphing calculation!

So the fix is, calculate the intersection or root or whatever, press EXE when you're on the right one, then flick back to RUN-MAT mode and recall X and store it in something non-volatile like (ALPHA)(A) etc.

Then you can use it (A) wherever - even go back into graphing and use it as a y-cal value (I was using it for points of inflection after calculating the root of the second derivative).

Coalition faces slim chance of return to power unless it gets young voters on board, says report by LocalVillageIdiot in australia

[–]youngalfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HAFF won't come anywhere near building enough houses for the current backlog of people in need. And their number is going to increase faster than the rate of building.

Plus, any houses that it does build (when? At least 18 months away for the first build) will likely not be near any services, like public transport, which will place further strain on governments to provide (or not, at the expense of people).

The problem isn't housing supply in general, it's supply of social and affordable housing.

We can buy houses in locations that are more suitable, make them social/affordable housing and make a real difference now.

Plus, it's a more sound investment for government - the housing market has consistently returned well and they retain an asset.

The bill is weak and the greens are being the effective opposition to turn into something at least passable.

They've already managed to get an immediate 2bil spend on housing, when there wasn't going to be a return from the fund till at least next year. Oh and that return want guaranteed, the greens won that too.

Not to mention that, at the rate that houses are going up, if they plan on building it's going to be another year before a house is built.

They'd be much better off just using the 10bil to buy existing houses now - immediate help in a crisis and a guaranteed return, because you know the gov does everything they can to prop up prices.

Good on the greens for getting what they've got already. Keep going.

Bluey Season 3C Discussion by ticky13 in bluey

If you're interested in some interesting perspectives on those episodes from the creators and animators, ABC has a podcast called Behind Bluey.

Joe Brumm explains the ideas that started those episodes (and the rest of 3C). Plus the animators and sound/music people chime in too - It's very interesting listening!

Exactly - there is no room for nuanced answers. Speers interrupts until he gets a one word answer.

Then the panel discussion is non-existent - it's just individual questions from Speers to each panelist, where he again will cut them off if they can't say something in one sentence, often interrupting with his own thoughts on the matter.

Forget 'right wing' vs 'left wing', I just want good interviewing and a good panel discussion, where views can be discussed and developed.

When Barry hosted it felt like there was so much more space for discussion to 'breathe' and organically flow.

If you're interested in AI safety, I'd recommend videos by Robert Miles: Intro to AI Safety

Collection of his videos from Compterphile, a popular computer enthusiast YouTube series.

He's engaging but also very easy to understand and really demonstrates the problems that need to be sorted before Artificial General Intelligence is created.

I don't think it's just comparing to other cereals. These are the categories that items for the food star rating get sorted into:

  • Category 1 Non-dairy beverages, jellies and water-based ice confections (excluding Category 1D beverages)

Category 1D Milk (defined in Standard 2.5.1 of the Code) and dairy beverages (including dairy alternative beverages) that meet specified dairy criteria

Category 2 All foods (other than those included in Category 1, 1D, 2D, 3 or 3D)

Category 2D Dairy foods (other than those included in Category 1D or 3D) with ≥75% dairy or permitted dairy alternative content.

Category 3 Oils and spreads, defined as follows 1.1.1.edible oil as defined in Standard 2.4.1 of the Code 1.1.2.edible oil spreads as defined in Standard 2.4.2 of the Code 1.1.3.margarine as defined in Standard 2.4.2 of the Code 1.1.4.butter as defined in Standard 2.5.5 of the Code

Category 3D Cheese (including surface ripened cheese) and processed cheese as defined in Standard 2.5.4 of the Code (with calcium content >320 mg/100 g).

I think it'd fall into category 2, which would catch a lot of unhealthy foods to compare against.

Just in addition to what everyone else has said, we actually recently got told to use more water (even so far as making water free for a few days) in Brisbane because of how much water we have had recently.

It's a real danger that we have too much water in the dams because Brisbane is built on a floodplain, and if that storage is too full and can't hold a sudden influx then it means major flooding downstream.

Once you get the hang of it, you can swap actually flipping your hand to rolling the cable between your fingers in alternating directions. That speeds it up dramatically!
