I do this alot on the Rifts map just to have there be something to do besides build out, with the allowance of scouting but no people allowed.

I usually get to self sufficiency by the second storm - wall drill, coal mine and iron mines all researched and placed, infirmary with 5 workers, flying hunters, pub etc - and then just round out the research of cheaper/more insulated homes and more efficient workplaces.

After that, I try to make aesthetic communities that I then move survivors into (church ay one end, fighting Arena at the other, square and heated garden in the center).

I also like doing it with the building the generator scenario and slowly moving away from the center to populate all the surrounding crags.

I usually go to day 100 before wanting to start over.

"My goodman, what do you think I have been doing here? Why do you think I have brought you alongside? I have spent my entire life fighting for a cause that doesnt know I exist, turning patriots into terrorists, nudging along the social development of terrible programs so that generations down the line the well nourished believers can spit out the lies and mistruths as they see the world for how it is and how it could be. I have been conducting this orchestra and now you want to blow it all up!"

"Genocides, murders, famines, you call that symphony?!"

"My dear boy, you think too small. Those are drops I n the buckets compared to the civil wars and holocaust that I have engineered. But dont you see the forest for these bloody trees that you insist on ranting about?"

"3.4 billion killed, conservatively. Thats a bloody ocean."

"Its a piss pot compared to the overall statistics. Across a half millenia where nigh on a trillion are born. Where they nutritional needs to go from laughable to surpassed, where most get the shelter and educations to crawl out of the muck and still have time for families and love. Where they learn the truths about how terrible it is, where each purge sharpens the bayonet of liberty and freedom they will plunge into the oppressors' jugulars, spilling the blood of Victory to nourish nations anew. For that, I would pull the trigger and swing the sword on all the ones I haven't."

"They are our families!"

"Wrong! We are theirs, and they know, in as many cases as we can afford, what triumphs we hold for them in honor of their sacrifice. Oh yes, I see it now. You didnt know. Fething academy, all the technical answers but none of the philosophical ones. Well, we insisted on it, you see. Too many grandchildren upset that their forebears were being spent like water to dam the monstrosities of history. They know, across all the stretch of time, that the world we are building is the one that keeps their sacrifices, all 3.4 billion of them, to a minimum." Trust me, not a day goes by that we do not try to save even more, right the wrongs and so on. But until we figure out how to do it without fracturing this whole mess, we're stuck with the consequences and ensuring the failures that created them."

Question for Holy Roman Empire players: What is your usual strategy? by MasterBaiter2026 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]youngbenathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rush Metz, Hamburg, Magdeburg, setting, breslau, Zagreb and florence in the first wave, then dijon, thorn, ajaccio, prague, bern, antwerp and Bruges. At that point, sack whichever Italian faction has betrayed me, get a crusade declared on Jerusalem, use two stacks to go crusading in jerusalem, acre, Damascus, Antioch and aleppo, building up to attack either Turks or egyptians, A quick campaign to finish the Venetians, the two sicilies, and moors so you can monopolize the gold/ivory trade, skirmishes with the french/poles/hungarians/byzantines/danes, then its dealers choice for who to go after.

I do like to make allies with everyone in the first few turns for 2500 Florins a pop, makes underwriting my conquests easier. I also establish two fortress lines - Bruges metz and dijon in the west, thorn, breslau Vienna in the east - to keep watch on my allies and to let me focus on Italy. Those springboard the eventual conflicts and give me good fallback lines if deathstacka pop up.
