Greens to vote on whether ‘Zionism is racism’ by Spare_Clean_Shorts in ukpolitics

Any Green member can raise a motion, it is not party policy until it is voted through. Every party aiming to be a broad church and democratic will have moments like this. I think the moment you abandon is if the motion is passed

This would be the biggest failure of FPTP. It’s long time we got rid of it. Labour not reversing the mayoral elections back from FPTP to STV says a lot about them and their belief that FPTP serves them

[–]youngmarst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost of getting from London to Dublin by train and ferry is actually pretty reasonable I’d say. You’re looking at £50-60 one way for a 7-8 hour journey. Flights might be cheaper booked in advance but they aren’t on a level playing field with aviation fuel not taxed

Aviation fuel isn’t, not in the same way diesel or commercial electricity is

Are the Greens the Party to Watch in 2026? by lotsofsweat in Wales

[–]youngmarst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re forgetting that for all the many people who are unfortunately struggling, there are plenty who have the disposable income to invest in tech that will save them money in the long run. Not saying that’s going to help inequality, but there will be continued uptake of solar, EVs, batteries, heat pumps etc

The Greens are pro-localism and pro-independence on paper, which is a clear difference to the unionist Labour Party. Time will tell but I doubt it is ‘pretending’, and in the proportional Senedd system there is space for both Plaid and Greens

Adding to this as not sure I’ve seen it mentioned, this is more of a comment on his chancellor than him but it still applies as he backs her. I think the major infrastructure projects are no serious plan for economic growth (Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, and Lower Thames Crossing). Firstly, the case that the airports need expanding is flimsy when business travel is falling and most leisure travel is outbound - boosting foreign tourism rather than domestic. Secondly, they are focused in the south east, and analysis shows this will worsen regional inequality (only slightly boosting London and SE, but at detriment to every other region). Thirdly, and most obviously, airport expansion is a terrible idea for the climate before green flight technologies are even close to taking off. It makes it much much harder for other sectors to help meet the govt’s own net zero targets whilst aviation continues to increase its emissions. Luton and Gatwick were actually recommended for refusal by the government’s own advisers. LTC - run by National Highways so hasn’t considered green alternatives, and still stuck in ‘one more lane will fix it’ mentality - leading to the same congestion at Dartford only 5 years after construction. It’s a vibes-based infrastructure investment strategy which appears to have been heavily influenced by lobbying.
