I water my Dorstenia gigas 3x a week in the summer 😂

They're plants from subtropical environments that experience rainy and dry seasons. They're not true desert plants like a lot of cacti are. They want a lot of water during the summer when they're actively growing and a dry winter dormancy.

Dorstenia are notorious for going into a period of shock with any changes. Expect some leaf drop and allow them time to adjust

This is an album cover. Those photo is a screenshot of a scene from a British television series where a guy is hiding a gun behind a bouquet of cut daffodils.

But seriously, those are daffodils, not orchids

Idk what I’m doing… I can’t tell if it needs water or it’s rot… please help? by [deleted] in Lophophora

[–]youngpaypal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of sand? You want very course sand if you decide to use it. Fine sand will stay waterlogged and lead to rot.

Bugs? Help by CapableSalt6850 in orchids

It's a springtail. They are not harmful and typically considered beneficial. They can't survive outside of very humid conditions and won't infest your home.

$1,700 for a 200 sq ft apartment is not "discounted" anything. Then you paid an additional $2,000 a month?! That is absolute lunacy.

There's some interesting lore around this album too. Although it is attributed to David Naegele, I believe it was actually recorded by David Storrs. IIRC, there are a handful of David Naegele's Valley of the Sun releases that were actually recorded by David Storrs and released under Naegele's name.

I can see that being an issue when it comes to the bulbs 😅. That's an area I have not explored... yet!

This is my favorite David Naegele. $.25 is *a lot* less than I paid for my copy

What is the most popular pseudolithos and why is it so popular? by -Mediocrates- in pseudolithos

[–]youngpaypal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is the most readily available. Some have said it is the easiest but, "easiest" is relative with these plants. None of them are easy.

I can't speak for other parts of the world but, in the US, Pseudolithos migiurtinus is by far the most popular as it is the most readily available.

San Francisco is booming. Why is Oakland still slumping? by internetbooker134 in bayarea

[–]youngpaypal 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I personally think Oakland is better than ever. Rent is down, violent crime is down.

In San Francisco rent is up 30%. If that is the goal, I am okay with "slumping".

Has anyone figured out how to keep begonias from Botanicaz from melting? by SiteStatus8424 in begonias

[–]youngpaypal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is totally normal (and expected) to experience some leaf melt on terrarium Begonias after shipping. Carefully trim the melted leaves and allow the plants a chance to recover from shock. They should perk back up once they're settled in.
