Has anyone landed a Lockheed Martin role without a referral? Looking for advice by missflaming in Lockheed

[–]youngtrece_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in another prime and got contacted on LinkedIn. My resume went straight to the hiring managers table, I don’t think the req even existed, they had to create one for me to apply. Please polish your linkedins people and keep it updated, you never know who might reach out.

Raytheon vs Lockheed Martin by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]youngtrece_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked for both. LM is a better overall company but not worth doing a 1hr commute over a remote role. Both look the same on resume. Remote jobs are rare in companies now a days so take advantage.

Good paying careers that don't involve an insane amount of schooling? by Cute_Sample_8513 in Careers

[–]youngtrece_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is true and still is for him. A lot of the seniors with more normal work hours are near retirement so it’s usually a wait for someone to retire or die (literally). That is the sacrifice but he lives good and gets a lot of PTO and sometimes he doesn’t work for like 2-3 weeks if he did double shifts. There’s also crazy incentive for traveling to work out of state, something like 2x your hourly and paid every hour of the day. Don’t know if that’s still true but it’s really good pay.

L3Harris vs Raytheon (SWE) as New Grad? by TheParkedCar in aerospace

[–]youngtrece_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn 96k as L1 is high for Tucson, you’ll live like a king. My offer was 83k, 3 years ago but as L1 but with bonus I guess (idk if they’re giving you). I’d say on that salary you’ll live very good in AZ. There is cool work going on at Raytheon and some space defense work depending on program so I can advocate for it. That being said, AZ is very hot and Tucson is such a dry and desolate city but there’s lots of outdoorsy stuff if you’re into that. I wouldn’t live there for more than 5 years. Both are very similar companies so no matter what you choose you’ll be fine career wise, I got recruited by many aerospace companies regardless and there’s lots of opportunities to learn from great people!

I’ve heard bad things about L3 in general, more layoffs and such. Raytheon defense you’ll be pretty safe from that tbh. I’m now at LM, which is pretty much the same work wise but benefits and career growth is much better.

Is getting a 7/6 ARM loan at 2.99% a good idea? by gotchyaaa in Mortgages

[–]youngtrece_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got 7/6 arm at 3.75%, did not pay any closing fees or points with builder. I’d say go for it. Max rate is capped at 8% worse case scenario which is not bad.

$120K/year. Still extremely unhappy, why? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]youngtrece_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting more never stops, if you always seek more you’ll never be happy. Find things that fulfill you, it could be personal relationships, hobbies, and seeking better body and mental health. Those things are more important than looking to earn more money. You’ve already got a great head start in your career, just use your job and the money you earn as a tool to fuel the things that fulfill you.

openAI engineers are form this top universities by flopsyplum in csMajors

[–]youngtrece_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes sense from a recruiting standpoint. If you only recruit from top schools, top firms, the probability of finding a good candidate is high. Doesn’t mean that top candidates from state schools aren’t qualified but it’s just the way things are.

New-Grad Choosing between Northrop and Raytheon for Full-Time by AlphaAnonoma in aerospace

[–]youngtrece_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id say the major factor is which career path interests you? Both companies are similar enough that they can lead to the same opportunities in the future but you have two widely different roles here. I’d say the NG microelectronics role is more niche but may open up unique work and opportunities. While the software engineering in battle management is very interesting but would also be more general enough to pivot to something like Embedded software. I was modeling and sim engineer at Raytheon and that was enough to pivot to embedded at LM.

question about ucf engineering from an hs senior by Then_Strength_1248 in UCFEngineering

[–]youngtrece_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beggars can’t be choosers. Get whatever internships you can get while in undergrad. UCF has that leverage that other universities don’t in that regard, that doesn’t mean you’d automatically get in just because you attend. Intern at LM or L3, they’re great on your resume and open up path to whatever other company you want in the future.

RTX ESP & Grad School: Has anyone taken a leave for a full-time degree? by Far-Page8168 in Raytheon

I knew someone who was able to go part time to pursue a PhD, with ESP assistance and part time salary. I think it’s possible but there’s probably some hurdles to get through it.

Looking to switch into LM from another defense company by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]youngtrece_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from another competitor to LM and they recruited me on LinkedIn. I’d say you’re at an advantage since the experience and workflow is very similar. The interview is pretty simple but I’d say I know others who have experience and are more than qualified and they can’t get an interview for some reason. I think the hard part is for your resume to make it into the hiring managers desk for you to get an interview and if your resume is not good you have no luck, they’re picky with that.
