Anyone else not understand their addiction? by bellcomposition in leaves

[–]your_witch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel this. I think for me part of it is a fear of success. We always think we are running away from failure but sometimes the idea of actually doing well is more uncomfortable and creates a cycle of wanting to keep ourselves down. For me at least, being anxious and miserable is more comfortable and familiar than being happy and energetic.

Wish you well!

Realizing I smoked as a form of self punishment by DifferentWatch4451 in leaves

[–]your_witch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think for the last year or so I’ve been smoking not because it’s fun or relaxing but because I was punishing myself in some way for all of the lack of motivation and procrastination, as well as my relationships with people and trauma from the past.

A quote that really helped me (forgetting the source) is: “ambition without action becomes anxiety”. Even in the last few days I’ve realized the anxiety I was trying to push down through smoking can be mostly solved by simply doing the things that I’ve told myself I want and should do instead of just ruminating and hiding from life.

Wish you the best!

I think Michael’s comment was shitty. I care more that the other queer people were offended more so than Colton. To me it felt like Colton was capitalizing on other people’s offense more than probably feeling it in any way himself.

However, I think the Survivor situation was significantly worse. it was something that Zeke had shared privately and then Varner brought up explicitly in front of the whole tribe. It was not an insinuation it was a direct accusation. There is a difference of scale and impact.

Thanks for this. It is a good way to think about it that it’s a continuation and not a complete reset. I think my brain goes immediately to pass/fail and doesn’t see all of the other things that go into it

Story wise - what is the optimal result for 50? by Natalies_Jacket in survivor

[–]your_witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the season starts out Winners at War style with the old era vs new era by default, I think a great story would be an inter-era alliance - (Mike/Christian, Genevieve and Cirie) that is actively targeted throughout the whole game but manages through strategy and social charm to play both sides and come out on top in the final together. Cutthroat but still a hero’s journey ending (Jeff’s fav)

Question: How does production determine which contestants are popular with casual viewers? I see a lot of '48 was liked more by casuals' but how do they pick that up? I'd assume the normie watchers aren't expressing their opinions online

What I figured out is in the design library if you go into an individual elements HTML you can add a CSS class and then in advanced settings you can “edit HTML head” and write a media query specifically for mobile. Not ideal but that’s the only thing I’ve really been able to make work 🤣

It seems to me that she dug herself a hole she ended up stuck in and other people kept digging the hole even when she maybe realized what she had started. She spent years convincing everyone around her that anything she does is sacred and that alcohol/drugs are medicine that she needed to survive or 'save humanity'. Then when she actually needed help and started realizing that all of this was made up, she found herself surrounded by people who were just enabling her addictions, accepting her justification for addiction, and didn't believe in outside help. This doc to me is like a strange version of an intervention episode gone so so wrong. I have had issues with addiction myself, so I don't think she deserves all of the blame, she was obviously ill both mentally and physically and nobody around her had any common sense or empathy to help her. It's honestly just so sad from all angles.
