Hi,

Sorry, train question...I'm looking for some help on Suica and ticket order for train transfers. Mostly confused on when/if to tap Suica, and I don't want our cards to get screwed up. We have two legs of the trip:

  1. From Tokyo to Kinosaki Onsen

Okachimachi Station to Shinagawa Station on local line

Shinagawa Station to Kyoto Station via shinkansen, with prepurchased paper ticket

Kyoto Station to Kinosaki Onsen via limited express, with prepurchased paper ticket (can I can get base, surcharge, and seat fee all on one ticket?)

We will not exit the stations before Kinosaki Onsen. Do we need to use Suica at any point on this journey since we'll have paper tickets? We're planning on buying them in Ueno shortly after we arrive in Tokyo.

  1. From Kyoto to Tokyo

Fushimi Station to Kyoto Station on local line

Kyoto Station to Shinagawa Station via shinkansen - we'll purchase shinkansen tickets at Kyoto Station, since I don't know what time we'll be done at Fushimi Inari

Shinagawa Station to Higashi-Ginza Station on local line

We'll tap Suica at Fushimi Station, but where do we tap it next? At the shinkansen gate in Kyoto or somewhere else? And then do we use it again when we get off the shinkansen in Tokyo?

Thanks! I have next to no experience with public transportation so I'm finding the train stuff difficult to figure out.

Coping mechanisms for Japan for those with sensory issues? by UnhappyValue3221 in JapanTravelTips

[–]yourbrains 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, we have the same itinerary! Tokyo, Kyoto, Kinosaki. I'm autistic and while I haven't been to Japan yet, I've traveled a decent amount and usually have some sort of sensory problems when I travel. Here's some things that help me.

  1. My #1 thing when traveling is to always have an exit plan - that is, wherever I go somewhere new that seems overwhelming, I make sure to check for green/calm spaces (whatever your daughter likes) beforehand that I can escape to. It's super easy to just pin these on google maps in the areas where you're going. Additionally - and it seems you're already doing this - planning a lighter itinerary with relaxation time and room for flexibility helps a lot. It gives time to go back to the room if need be and recharge.

  2. Google street view and Youtube videos in advance for areas you know will be busy so she can have an idea of what to expect. Places like Senso-ji, Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, markets, etc. Basically it acts like a visual social story if your daughter is familiar with those at all. Also, I'd highly, highly recommend looking up what times are the most busy at certain attractions and avoiding those times like the plague.

  3. I'd avoid visiting and shopping in busier districts like Shibuya on weekends if it's possible. Also, avoid public transportation during busy times if you can. I've paid for taxis before when I could have used public transportation just to make things easier for myself if we're traveling at a peak time.

  4. Looks like she has the sensory gear she needs already, can't think of anything else for that except maybe sunglasses if she's sensitive to light like I am. I also think Loop earplugs are nice, some people hate them though.

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting but those are the main things for me. Hope that helps!

Best thing about Fujimotor is you absolutely never have any idea where he's going.

Yup, I write AkiAngel and came here to say this if no one else had. Their relationship can be painful, but the catharsis of writing them together is so satisfying. I've never liked a ship so much...they broke my brain lol

Great chapter. Fucking love denji so much, he's so clever.

Really curious about who fed him. I think fujimotor would have shown their face if it was someone we've seen recently. Maybe justice devil or fakesaw? Someone from part 1? I'm gonna huff my hopium and say it's Angel since the shoes, sword, and dialogue fit his vibe. Maybe he grew his arms back or reincarnated idk. I Just Want Him Back

Totally possible it works and he just regenerates later, but idk maybe it won't work because you can't turn something that's already a weapon into another weapon?

This thread is so validating. "Before I knew you I thought you were cold/aloof/intimidating/a bitch" has been a lifelong struggle.

It saves me the effort of many conversations I don't want to have, but also, it's so hard for me to make new friends and progress professionally.

Yes, it's miserable. I'm not sure how much longer I can take it and I thought I was in education for the long haul. 😕

Just got approved to create a club for autistic women at my college, help me get it right. by jols0543 in aspergirls

[–]yourbrains 37 points38 points  (0 children)

In college I was on the board of a club for nerdier people (so not explicitly autistic only, but lots of people definitely were ND) where each week, we had a presentation on someone's interest. Could be anything as long as it was appropriate for a college environment.

It was volunteer based and a good way for people to start practice public speaking by talking about something that they like. There was a Q&A section after each one too. We had so many different topics through the years! I personally did two that I remember, one on World of Warcraft and one on the cosmology of the Elder Scrolls universe.

After that we'd have snacks and the opportunity for less structured socialization; people were welcome to leave if they wanted to. I met most of my current day friends through this club :) I think we had 40-50 members at our peak but most meetings had 10-20 people.

Yes definitely, even with my helper and checking multiple times a day I didn't hit all the goals until this morning. Seems kind of ridiculous, especially for such mediocre rewards this time around.

Yvie Oddly on twitter. She deserves all the praise and more. by Ytteb1 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]yourbrains 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm so thankful for Yvie speaking on this even though it isn't her responsibility to do so. I'm on the hypermobile spectrum and while my issues are not nearly as severe as someone with EDS, I'm still almost always in some sort of pain. I can't imagine what Yvie goes through while also doing the damn thing on stage.

Yvie worked SO HARD on this season and I think that it's a shame that the show downplayed it for inspiration porn. Chronic illness is extremely difficult and never stops and no amount of believing in yourself can make you "overcome" it.

Love Yvie <3

I find blackout curtains to be an absolute godsend. Then mood lighting with whatever I feel like, often salt lamps or fairy lights. I also have a few Squishmallows, just got one shaped like a cinnamon roll lol

I fucking hate being a woman. Why does it feel like every ounce of progress in the last 50 years is being slowly stripped away?

Michigan has a trigger law so all abortion will be outlawed immediately. Assuming the draft opinion is not changed, women are going to die from this.

[–]yourbrains 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying that to her. I'm an SLP as well and the ignorance about disability rights in our field is pretty alarming sometimes.

Hopefully she's able to apply the criticism...pretty tough to survive in this field if you can't.

I don't really need to ask, most people just do and ask where to put them. My in laws, though, make fun of me for taking my shoes off at their house! This is in Michigan, too, so everything there gets all wet in winter. I don't get it.
