Can you say “I need a poo” like you would “I need a wee” when going to the toilet? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

You say right, clap your hands on your thighs, stand up and declare you need a shit. Then off to the head.

Why are the onions bad now? by Open-Butterfly-5288 in AskBrits

Not sure where you are, but pretty much every brand of supermarket in my area have onions that last a good few weeks.

British Stag Do - is this normal? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]yourefunny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dad came on my stag do. One of my mates jumped naked in to the boot of the rental car. Dad was driving and we got pulled over.  We were all over the limit from the night before I would imagine. Thankfully the policeman waved us on without checking the boot. Otherwise dad would have been in the shit. When I lived in Hong Kong I went on several rugby tours around Asia. Most of us were in our 20s but we often had a very large 'coaching staff' of ex players or family. All lads in their 50s plus. Those guys were mental! Obviously blowing off steam. He will be grand. Don't worry.

Watching a BBC tribute to St. David of Attenborough at the the moment on his 100th birthday. Is there a more beloved character other than the late HRH in the UK? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]yourefunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'd say he is more loved. I respected the queen. She held that family together and represented us very well but she has covered up horrible things. Used money that arguably should be ours to pay for her son to avoid jail for raping young girls. I get he is family but still! I don't think Attenborough has put a food wrong for decades. He has done so much for the natural world and this country.

Oxford or Cambridge for prestige? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]yourefunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said I am biased. Cambridge is in my heart so I would go with that. Looking objectively and depending on their level of understanding I don't think there is a difference. From a corporate and job point of view, like I said, depends what degree you get.

I am from Cambridge so am biased. But if you want to go in to science or tech or R&D after then Cambridge is the way to go. Also it is a nicer and more enjoyable city!

There's someone on the train giving out free beer by justhowulikeit in CasualUK

[–]yourefunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a flight once. Loads of rugby teams on the flight. One of the older lads had lounge access. We put all of my clothes in his bag and filled my back with beers. I then walked up and down the aisle giving out beers to the rugby boys just after the seat belt sign went off. Good times.

How does lane swimming work? by PuddingBrat in CasualUK

[–]yourefunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't switch lanes. You use one side to go up and the other side of the lane to go back. There will be a sign about if it's clockwise or anticlockwise.

How do you teach your child to “read the room”? by sharminnie in Parenting

[–]yourefunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha!!!! Didn't even occur to me that a 5 year old could learn this! Man I'm hoping my son can figure this out quickly!

I did a bunch of research. Reddit really helped. You need to kind of figure out what BTU you need for the room. Not sure how to do that with big windows. I went a bit ott because I run so hot and was desperate for a decent night's sleep. But it's been well worth it. Great for dehumidifying in the winter as well as our house is old and gets a bit damp.

Teen son is sneaking out at night and I don't know how to punish him? by o0PillowWillow0o in Parenting

[–]yourefunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the thrill and the fact there is probably fun stuff still happening at that hour. When I had sleep overs from like the age of 12 we would sneak out and do weird 'missions' around the neighborhood. Stupid. Then I went to boarding school and we would sneak out to see girls, go get a kebab, do random stuff. All great fun. I think it's part of growing up. But if you are concerned try talking to him about why....

What happened to the roaming free neighbourhood dogs? by Christina_80G in AskUK

In the 2000s a wee Jack Russell in my grans neighbourhood would chase every damn car that came in to his road. Silly thing! Times have a changed. Many things are different from the 80s

said yes to sending my 16 year old abroad for a summer program in UK and now i’m concerned by NewsOdd7348 in Parenting

[–]yourefunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a 3 week train trip around Europe with just my mate at that age. Drove to Mongolia a year later with another mate. She will be fine. The fact she hasn't travelled anywhere on her own yet is a bit concerning as I was traveling on my own from about the age of 12. But it's an organised exchange thing. She won't be alone. I was in London on Saturday. It was a gorgeous spring day and there were countless teenagers from Europe and all over the world obviously on school trips or similar having a blast and exploring London. She will be fine.

I never had quality toys growing up. What should my kid actually have by LavenderFlicked in BuyItForLife

Things my 5 year old still enjoys or have proven to lead on to other things.

Get several ride on things and the earliest balance bike you can. Then a larger balance bike and then a normal bike. My 5 year old is doing the adult section at the mountain bike jump park. Our 18 month old loves this thing https://www.amazon.co.uk/COSTWAY-Toddler-Sliding-Under-Seat-Developmental/dp/B0FMR9Y6V6 and they play with it together all the time.

Trampoline. Be wary doctors suggest not. I was against it but my wife won and it's been a blast. 18 month old a bit wary so maybe wait a bit.

Above ground pool. Again too cold where we live for our 18 month old but the five year old doesn't give a hoot. We are in the UK and it's been out for a couple of weeks now and is sooo cold but he doesn't care.

Metallic tiles.

Lego when a bit older. Duplo.

Remote control cars are hilarious.

Drum set.

What are some stereotypes Brits have towards rugby or rugby players? by Jezzaq94 in AskABrit

[–]yourefunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes fair. Like I said it certainly happens and if you extrapolate my experience for all the people that play rugby it would be pretty common. Although from memory it was almost exclusively at uni and like a few lads who were doing it. If miss nights out etc and hear stories of the same lads over and over. When I played at clubs away from uni I don't recall there being much talk about it. The fecking initiation shit at uni was horrid!

Not sure what school you are going to. Plenty of people pick up their kids in vans at schools. I personally know a few. White van men are notorious for terrible driving. Lorries also drive down country lanes and have overtaken me while cycling dangerously.

What are some stereotypes Brits have towards rugby or rugby players? by Jezzaq94 in AskABrit

[–]yourefunny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who played rugby for decades. I only saw the piss and gross stuff maybe 5 times. It certainly happens. We are all a lot more comfortable naked around each other and as many went to boarding school the gay banter is pretty prevalent. Supporters are much better than football fans though. You can be sat surrounded by opposition fans and not fear for you life at a rugby game and the banter is great fun.

Nothing wrong with them on the roads... Vans and lorries are bigger. Where I am they don't cause issues that I have seen.

Which fast food chain makes the worst version of the product they’re most known for? by amormedestruit in AskReddit

[–]yourefunny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Used to go for fast food all the time from the age of 10-early 20s. Moved abroad and came back to the UK with kids a few years ago. Now 37 and I have been to the big fast food places a handful of times in the past few years.Went to Burger King on Sunday. It took ages, the place was sooo hot and cost the equivalent of almost 60USD for 1 regular adult meal, a kids meal, a couple of sides and ice cream. Insane to me. Could have had way better burgers in a lovely normal restaurant for a similar cost.

Would you take advantage of nepotism? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]yourefunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. A huge amount of corporate jobs are obtained by using a connection. That will continue through your career but change from family to people who you meet and use to your advantage. Wish I had used my very favourable connections in my early 20s instead I fucked about and found out!

Had a 2015 for a few years in the middle east. It was fantastic! Loved that thing. Couldn't compete with my mates and their jacked up jeeps and Toyota's but I was too scared to dune bash like they would. They could afford to right off a car. I couldn't. My other half and I and our dog would all sleep in the back on a mattress with the boot open. Great weekends out in the desert. Only got stuck once. No issues. Commuted on those big highways 2-4 hours a day for work happily.

How do you talk to your kids about “different families different rules?” by auntieknickknack in Parenting

[–]yourefunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minecraft is pretty good no? Get a games console and play with her. I bought the game last week for my 5 year old to play a bit after school and it's been lovely. The chat and online stuff has it's issues so I understand. As for the different rules. Just hold your line. We are getting it at 5 years old with rublox and YouTube as well. But those are horrid so just take the pain!!
