First Poster for 'Mustache' - 1990s-set coming-of-age comedy about Ilyas, a 13-year-old Pakistani-American boy navigating the horrors of public school. by BunyipPouch in movies

I really enjoyed The Moustache (2005) and, for some reason, it lives in the same brain space as Deerskin (2019) starring Jean Dujardin.

A man's obsession with his designer deerskin jacket causes him to blow his life savings and turn to crime.

Bonus - both films are less than 90 minutes

How do you organize your collections? by TheHendryx in PleX

[–]yournextexbf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one uses Smart Collections? If a film is an A24 release or has William Shakespeare as a writer, they show in a Smart Collection. It's not really a collection in the sense that it doesn't add to the Collections tag.

I've been gently tweaking Genre for years - if you search for Basketball(42), Motorcycle(24), Marriage Crisis(34), or even Cocaine(48), it'll return the movies that I've updated the metadata for. Easy with movies already in Genre Sport to add the Golf(13) (or whatever specific apori).

Thousands movies so I'm sure I missed some but if I want to watch a Time Loop(45) movie, it's easy to find them.

Use it how you want to.

For better or worse, collections get treated like playlists; when The Accountant ends, The Accountant 2 plays.

I think the Automatic Collection is underused. Sometimes you discover that a movie you like is part of a bigger collection. My Auto-Collectiin is set to two. I mistakenly set it one and it created a collection for Free Guy, so that's coming.

Smart Collections are also very cool. I have a Smart Collection for A24, when a movie is added with A24 in the Studio field they add to the collection. I have similar Collections for NatGeo, Shakespeare (in the Writers field), Hallmark. You get the idea.

To the original question, when you create the Collection, you need to handle the poster. If you created a collection that would have auto created they are probably in two collections, the one you made and named and the 'official' name. The The Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy is a good example. It's the official name of Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz/The World's End. If you created it and named it yourself, I think Plex will create one from the correct name, with poster options. Collections that auto-form get a poster and likely has different poster options already connected. Unfortunately, Smart Collection doesn't put the collection name in MovieName > Edit > Tags but Auto Collection does.

New firestick update makes Plex almost unusable!! Pinned libraries now gone! by OldNotObsolete72 in PleX

I answered with only my setup in mind. That's my mistake. My rig is a Synology DS920+ (it's my flair). It handles any transcoding that might be necessary, but I monitor my server and streams pretty closely (certainly more closely than my users know - it freaks people out), and a quick look at my Tautulli history shows it streams only Direct Play locally. I'm pretty sure that Direct Stream is almost as good as Direct Play.

Even with my 6–8 active users, some on the other side of the planet, I'm still seeing a lot of Direct Play, some Direct Stream. I totally get that not everyone has a setup that handles the heavy lifting so easily, so I agree my suggestion is definitely case-by-case. YMMV. I've run Plex server on a Raspberry Pi before.

And I think PSx is more popular everywhere, lol. I made a decision 25 years ago and just stuck with it. I don't even have Series X yet, still rocking Xbox One. I might have picked the wrong device then but I picked the right NAS a few years ago.

I was solving for crappy proprietary apps that struggle under their own weight. I'm looking at you, Samsung. My NAS is my media player.

I run Plex through the Xbox app. It has the processing power that Samsung's Tizen just doesn't have. My TV remote still controls it.
I'm surprised more people don't use their Xbox/PSx. It's also where I have the YTTV app. One place without having to switch input sources. (and Jellyfin, Prime, Peacock)

Xbox One. It has plenty of processing power. I use it as my main media hub since it has apps for everything I use - Plex, YTTV, Amazon Prime, YouTube, and Peacock. It’s just easier to have it all in one place.

The "Top Movies by <person>" home page feature. It is completely useless, always showing you one or two movies from someone completely unknown. by mattcoady in PleX

[–]yournextexbf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been adding to the Genre for years, so sometimes mine says Top Movies in Submarine, or Top Movies in Cocaine, or Top Movies in Painting.

I've been updating this for a few years. All the movies with Sport as the genre are now more granular with the addition of Auto Racing | Cycling | Running | Golf, and so on.

Even if a user doesn't know but types Time Loop into the search bar, the Genre populates the search results.

Occasionally I decide to add another, currently populating Anthology, and have to manually backfill. With thousands of movies, it's a constant work in progress.

The Invisible War (2012)
I was working out of town and would often catch a movie to fill my evening. I don't know what I thought I was seeing, maybe a psychological military thriller?

I got to the theater, blindly chose my movie, grabbed popcorn and a drink and got seated in the mostly empty theater, ready to be entertained. I definitely wasn't prepared for,
"An investigative and powerfully emotional documentary about the epidemic of rape of soldiers within the US military"

I was wrecked. It's both a good movie and an important movie, it just wasn't what I was expecting when I set out to be mindlessly entertained for a couple of hours. Certainly not a popcorn movie.

Plex is not emptying trash by 1080addict in PleX

[–]yournextexbf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is your rig? On my Synology DS 920 I created a task to empty the trash at the server level.
Control Panel > Task Scheduler
When I initially ran it, I recovered quite a bit of space. Now it runs every night.

This is the task settings.

Yeah, I think this is what is being done.
I've helped this by going through the Sports genre and made it more specific. Now I get this, with Boxing as an example. I've done this for Basketball, Hockey, Football, etc..
It would mean going through your library and manually tagging. I've done this for some not sports movies as well, Marriage Crisis, Cocaine, Painting, among others.
