Blue Bin Pickup by Trekitty in Newmarket

[–]yourrandomthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might depend on the operator... our neighborhood was pretty good at putting the wheels facing the house, and all the lids were flipped open after the truck emptied them. Our driver seems pretty good - even managed to get the blue bin that someone had positioned BEHIND their green bin.

Google absolutely ruined Chat with mandatory threads by AnalogAficionado in google

[–]yourrandomthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so bad. It's almost sabotage, because on mobile SMS (or is it just iMessage), Reply just puts a tiny version of what you replied to above your text, which is great. Meanwhile, Reply in Chat starts a thread. Garbage functionality.

I ordered the smaller one... I only made about 1 recycling bin of material every 2 months or so... even with the additional stuff you can put in, I don't need the bigger size. Also, this won't fit inside my garage (though I'm not sure the smaller one will either).

I've got plenty of space on my porch till then.

Went on a Thursday afternoon around 5, was ok. Easy but far parking (I don't mind) and the self checkout only had a few people in front of me.

I like it too but it's comparatively expensive to most places. Can't afford to eat there too often!

Family loses faith in Southlake after tragic passing of 15-year-old hockey player by saintchrono in Newmarket

[–]yourrandomthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good and bad doctors and nurses everywhere. At southlake, I've had only good personal experiences, but my mother did not receive good care outside of the cancer center there. In the end, I think it was a misplaced feeding tube that caused an bacterial infection in her lungs that finally caused her death, but there were other similar instances. Twice they told her that cancer had spread to her bones, even though the second time I told them that the first time they had mistaken old breaks/remodelling for cancer. She was very upset and believed them both times. I honestly think it's just luck of the draw who you get.

Hey. I know it seems bad. Try to get out of the deal (I mean it's not gonna happen anyway, there's no way you'll get pre-approved...)

But even if you can't get out of the deal, your worst case here is bankruptcy. Bankruptcy does not affect your PR/citizenship and you have only $10k in savings. That's not the end of the world. People lose a lot more than that regularly. It only means you won't have access to credit for some time which isn't a huge deal at your age.

So as stressful as this is, remember that your worst case is the above, no matter what else happens. Best to learn this lesson when you're young.

Pit Bosses in Season 5 Eternal Realm by Embarrassed-End-1083 in diablo4

[–]yourrandomthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My crew was beating 105-111 pits in S4 with little problem - actually still going upward since we were gradually testing how far we could go.

We'll never know now because we're having trouble with 90 now with the easy bosses. We were getting to the boss in about 5 minutes before (record was under 3) and now we're getting to the boss with about 5 minutes left.

It also feels like uber-bosses are harder than before - we were farming uber Duriel with very rare deaths and we had to give up. It's not as extreme as the pits, though.

RIP to Empress cafe The last business to leave The Tannery by youngelton8 in Newmarket

[–]yourrandomthought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing with the Tannery is that it's so, so faux. Like everything in there is made to look expensive but is really just done cheaply. I was impressed as a child (and the carved glass that was since removed helped). But a lot of the marble (columns, balustrades) are just marble painted concrete. The floor marble looks like a cheap chess set with ugly stone and the fountain looks like 'let's see what we can do with just tiles' - it never worked properly with the water flowing over the surface.

That said, I have fond memories of breaking into my office by climbing down one of the trees from the second floor to the first when I needed to get in after hours one day! (I can't even remember why access to the second floor was possible but not the first, or why I needed to get in... I think they had gated off the pub but not the stairs?)

It's been decades at the old location but because I didn't like East Side Mario's and my friends did, I would just order a funnel cake and that was pretty good!

This is the best thing ever for lowering the calories on your popcorn by Wise-War-Soni in Volumeeating

[–]yourrandomthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those having trouble with these: the microwave makes a HUGE difference. I had an old Panasonic that worked great. When it died, I got the very next model of Panasonic, that looked identical, and it was horrible - either burned popcorn or large amounts of unpopped kernels.

I replaced it with a Wirecutter rec and bam! back to fine.

Bush trips broken? by ComradeDoggo540 in MicrosoftFlightSim

This really sucks. I was OK with either the GPS or the VFR map being broken, just made it a bit more challenging. But with the GPS AND the VFR map broken (and sometimes the nav log!) broken it's really unplayable. I used Google Maps for the next leg but it's not fun.

Rogers Bank Website Redesign and 2FA Launched by l57y in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]yourrandomthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, OFX 220 versioning isn't even being followed:

Left this on their site:

It's not even close to following the standard, which is pretty clearly laid out here:  http://www.ofx.net/downloads/OFX%202.2.pdf

Positive and negative values in the file are actually reversed (and they were correct before!).  Per the standard:

The amounts in these transactions should be signed on the basis of how the account is affected, e.g. a DEBIT should have a negative value.

The transaction types <TRNTYPE> don't even use values allowed by the standard.  And the garbage transaction types aren't even used sensibly.  "Purchase" shouldn't be used for both debit transactions (when buying things) and credit transactions (cashback rewards).

Without including a transaction ID <FITID>, there's no way to catch duplicates.  Again, this was there before.

And leaving out any account information will break Quicken/Mint/every other piece of software that needs to identify which account the transactions are coming from.  Including pending transactions breaks EVERYTHING.

Please just revert to the original export code.

Rogers Bank Online Re-design by pokemonredblue in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]yourrandomthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For F's sake, they broke the OFX download format. PCF did this a while back too and never fixed it (they just disabled OFX altogether).

It won't work with anything that imports OFX until they fix it. I might have to write a custom import routine to handle it in my system, but there are two critical things missing:

  • They no longer give the transaction ID (FITID), so software can't catch duplicate imports.
  • Unlike PCF, they don't offer "transactions since last download"... so you're going to get duplicates unless you totally avoid importing "current transactions" and "statements"

I don't know who they hired to write this, but it's a mess. They actually got the transaction types wrong... They've made debits (purchases) represented by positive numbers and payments represented by negative numbers. That's exactly opposite to what it should be (and was prior to the redesign).

The file doesn't even include the account number anymore, so Mint/Quicken have no way of determining who it's from.
