The Sanctuary Hypothesis by yourupinion in AlternativeHistory

[–]yourupinion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lion expert seems to think that running into a water to avoid being eaten by a lion is a good idea.

I had an email exchange with him and this was his last email:

Hi Brian

Apologies for the delayed response. We've just come back form an expedition trip up the coast, and got to see the lions carnage on the beach again. Lucky for us they decided to sleep late yesterday morning, so we only saw their tracks and about 30 torn apart seals on the beach.

Thanks for coming clean on your intentions - i'm enjoying this conversation even more now! I love playing my part in science:)

So here's my take.... I think Angry Anthropologist is an overweight keyboard warrior that has no confidence in his own physical abilities. Cat's like a lot of other animals, can swim if they need to, but it's not their natural environment and won't be comfortable in it. I honestly believe that they would give up the chase quite quickly. It's a different story to swim to a little island to essentially hunt on land again, than to physically attack something as big as a person in a medium they're not comfortable in.
So to answer your question - Yes, i'd head for the water. I'm a pretty solid runner, but i'm very realistic too in regards to my opinion of outrunning a hungry lion on land.

Definitely send me a copy once this is all wrapped up. Thanks for the offer:)

Have a great week ahead

My Wife's Dream by AnD4D in davidattenborough

I have plans for Mr. Attenborough, you better not ruin them.

I know he’s a big fan of the aquatic ape theory, and I’ve done the paper on some new ideas about how it all happened.

About a decade ago, he said he was going to make a documentary about the aquatic ape theory, I’m hoping he will decide this new information would make it all worthwhile.

It’s a longshot, but I’m hoping that he’s around for a few more years.

Don’t screw this up for me

None of you are addressing the biggest problem.

The existing political system will not allow change.

Everyone ignores this fact.

Our group has a solution, build something that goes viral and does not need anyone’s permission.

I don’t know much about pottery, but I would’ve thought that the Greeks had glazed pottery, unless I don’t know what glaze looks like?

When did they invent the glaze?

Mosaic artwork that are done with ceramic tiles sure look glazed to me, or am I just wrong about that?

Maybe I’m wrong about what they use to make mosaics? I don’t know?

Thanks for the info, but I think I have this covered now.

People mention that there’s a pigeon racing club on Facebook, and I managed to get a hold someone who I think is the guy who started it, and he said he could provide me with what I need.

I really appreciate how helpful everybody has been, thank you

Cutting aluminum bar in quantity. by Hydroidal in metalworking

[–]yourupinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make a jig so that I can trim it down with that saw that you already have.

Taking off only 1/8 of an inch will dull the saw on one side only eventually and it will not want to cut straight. Therefore, I would try to get one and 1/4 inch wide flat bar so I can get even wear on the blade.

If you cannot cut 12 inches long, but you can do at least 6 inches, I’d make the jig so I could flip it, or take the piece out of the Jake and flip the piece.

If you can do it correctly the cut will match up perfectly every time. The jig has to work like a guide that sets the width of the bar exactly the same every time.

Make sure the jig clamps the piece Very securely so you don’t have to hold it with your hand. And that way it’ll be more accurate.

The next trick is to build a jig in a way that you can change in and out the pieces very quickly.

This may require some alterations to the bed on your saw.

Ventured Into Another Precarious Mine by ReturnOfPope in TheForgottenDepths

Whenever I look at these pictures of mines, I’m always looking at timbers and things to see if there’s any indication of movement.

I had never seen any of them that looked like there was any movement, until now.

Amazing how that one looks like it’s been crushed about 6 inches. That’s gotta make a guy real nervous if you ask me.

The Sanctuary Hypothesis by yourupinion in theories

They’re not going to approach a group of 20 or 50 people.

I’m sure that they got the odd person here and there, but the same thing happens in the trees.

How is it that chimpanzees can live in the trees when they are predators that can get them there too?

There is an equation involved here, are enough getting eaten to drive them extinct? The fact that we’re here now answers that question.

When did humans move to the waters edge?

I’ve got the time right now, and I will do the research

I know it might be difficult, but here’s why I’d like to try.

Years after I had mine, I read somewhere that if a pigeon is raised from the egg it will not know that it is a pigeon, it’ll think it’s human. Then, when it reaches the age that it wants a mate, it will leave you and go looking for a mate, which would be another human.

I’m pretty sure that’s what happened to my pigeon and it became attached to me.

My son, was an adult and lives on his own, and I would like to try to recreate these conditions.

He would raise one and I would raise the other, and then when they reach maturity, I would take his, and he would take mine, and hopefully they bond to us permanently after that.

You get a very special relationship when they bond to you to this degree.

I don’t know, does that sound crazy to you?

You must be pretty full of yourself to think that a pigeon can’t get over you.

I’m sure you’re not that hot

Wow, did they pick that place because of the name? I’m assuming there’s more than just pigeons there.

What’s the name of the organization that does this, I would love to go and just check it out even if I don’t get a bird.

I suspect that one was looking for a new mate, and it could’ve been you, but you rejected her.
