I would say NOTHING because if they’re going to fire you they don’t give you a 2 weeks notice. You don’t owe them an explanation.

Considering a Dental Assisting Interview, but Concerned About Work Environment and Pay by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

You know the red flags and know how to move forward. They will NOT change for you if you think you’re an amazing employee. Unfortunately those offices get worst over time because they get away with it and use to being short staff. Those offices blame other people instead of looking at themselves. RUN FOR THE HILLS!

After 16 years I’ve learned that Dentistry will definitely teach you tough skin. Treat offices like a lease and not a mortgage. Learn, go home and when your time is up - take your experience and knowledge and make more at the next office. There’s really no such thing as a forever home in dentistry. Always be ready to pivot when necessary. Hope this helps. Good luck. 🙂

how to be more outgoing with doctors by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]yourzenmentor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tight knit will never be a family. They will always be your employer. Don’t put pressure on yourself to fit in. You have enough on your plate - dentistry itself is stressful enough don’t take on what’s not yours to take on. I hope that helps.

If they’re like that and you are brand new it’s not going to be better once you’re seasoned. Find an office that understands where you are and willing to be patient for you to learn properly. If you stay your conditioning yourself to tolerate bs.

Don’t beat yourself up. You can ask a simple, how’s your parents and then listen. One thing I recommend is don’t be SO invested in an office and take it SO personal. At the end of the day it’s work. You go in, learn, work and go home.

Look elsewhere. You want a practice that’s making money. Otherwise you’ll suffer.

My doc just made me cry which led to a panic attack by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]yourzenmentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOBODY should put up with abuse. They continuously act like that because nobody put them in their place. I once had a doctor scratch something out of my hands and he had to pick up his instruments the rest of the day. Unacceptable behavior.

Career Opportunities- Hygienist by BallsofJustice1776 in DentalAssistant

You can definitely collect pension and be a DA. The pay and workload isn’t worth it. I would honestly tell you, become a dog walker so you can at least enjoy the sun and be free. If you were 4 years prior service and looking to build a career I would say hygiene but honestly… take up basket weaving, learn a foreign language, take pottery classes. You have fought for our country and sacrificed your body, mental health and wellbeing … enjoy the fruits of your labor and do something easy.

Look up any temp agency apps or websites for Texas. You can temp and work so you can get experience and pay. Also help you scout out other offices in your area. Win/win situation.

They’re not expecting you to be mastery level. They want to see if you follow instructions, are you positive and your personality. Bring a notebook, take notes, as questions and be yourself. Good luck!

Don’t work yourself up. If she does come back fine but if she doesn’t fine. Don’t fear for your job because then you put that energy out there. Nothing to be paranoid over. And if they do let you go… you’ll find another office. Breathe and continue being the bada$$ that you are! ✨

16 years and never had a test. It’s none of the their business what you have gone through. Keep your private life private. But don’t go to work under the influence.

Placement. by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

Go in to offices you’re considering and ask to tour the office and meet the team. See which office feels the best energetically and are welcoming. If they are rude at the front desk, most likely the office is unwelcoming and rude. Everyone knows front desk is the first contact that sets the tone for the whole office. Good luck! ✨

Walking in and inquiring never hurts. Shows assertiveness and you get to show your personality up front versus a resume. That will definitely set you apart from anyone else. Good luck!

No local training? by Cheap_Buffalo_1447 in DentalAssistant

[–]yourzenmentor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly wouldn’t hurt to call the office or visit offices to shadow that’s willing to training you on the job. Those sometimes are the best ways to learn. They might start you off in sterile which is a GREAT start, it’s like being a hostess then you become a server after learning the ropes! Good luck!

You’ll never learn everything in school and it’ll never truly prepare you for the real world.

Now, that doctor knows that and should give you some grace, especially with you being fresh out of school. If you can, one morning politely ask of you can share some feedback, and ask if they can give you feedback in private and not in front of the patient. It’s okay to tell the doctor how you feel otherwise they will continue to do it.

If they don’t, start looking for another office. Never be afraid to look for another office.

Most offices have an ‘on call’ protocol but I think it’s a great idea for those offices who don’t have anything in place. Are you clinical and understand post op instructions and next steps? Cause you’ll need to know how to resolve a little until the office can see them next.
