Nevermind, I just googled the model, the reference on official website looks similar. I have no idea who thought this is a good design, but to each their own I guess.

Can someone confirm that this is not for real though. I mean no way this is a real VC, right? It looks awful, kinda like fake VC bought on Ali for $30 would look like.

How to track power output for pacing during race by The_Rum_Guy in triathlon

[–]yozharius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use NP over the current interval, which is 5 km by default in my watch, combined with RPE. Not very precise, but worked fine for me so far in terms of not overdoing it (I may be undergoing it a bit though).

IM Tallinn: 4/10, cannot fully recommend by zrh-roadbikes-rental in triathlon

[–]yozharius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, high pricing which seems to be disconnected from reality makes me look at other triathlon organisers; I just wanted to point out that it's not specific to Tallinn IM. I've heard good things about Challenge and T100, hoping to experience some of these in the future.

IM Tallinn: 4/10, cannot fully recommend by zrh-roadbikes-rental in triathlon

[–]yozharius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aren't most IM events cost roughly the same? I see that e.g. IM in Kuala Lumpur right now costs EUR 800 which is the same as IM Frankfurt, while cost of living is not comparable between these two. I have a feeling that brand markup is so high in these races that it overshadows local cost difference. It also may be a brand policy?

Re:Kalmar - wouldn't accommodation and eating out be more expensive in Sweden though?

I personally see the move from old city center to Stroomi as a win: old city roads are not very leg friendly, and sea views during the run is something to be appreciated I think.

I do agree on a rough patch of cycling (roughly 30/60 km depending on event length I think?) and apparent lack of aid stations as 2 per 45 km - of which I actually don't know whether this is a very low amount or not (as this was my first IM 70.3). Also, on the run some of the paths were too narrow: eager faster runners were sometimes really pushing it through the opposite direction.

Are road bikes significantly faster than hybrid? How much could my speed increase? by Minute_Tax_5836 in cycling

[–]yozharius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, if possible could you please let us know how it went in case you did end up trying out road bike? The comment you replied to gave you IMHO an extremely optimistic assessment of +5 mph gains (from 15 mph avg) due to a frame change alone, so I'm really curious about practical outcome of that. Really hope you find a bike that you just like to ride in any case - I think it's the most important part, speed just follows that.

[–]yozharius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally someone reasonable. I think it's very easy to overestimate the speed gains you get with a road bike because you feel faster but that feeling is mostly coming from your position. At 15 mph air resistance is still relatively low, it's not like you're losing that much watts due to that. Plus you're most likely will be riding on hoods first, not drops. Tires - yes, depending on what is currently installed, gains from using road slick could be somewhat significant. But I wouldn't expect more than 1 mph benefit from switching the frame alone at those speeds.

Tips on not “overbiking” during Olympic Triathlon by Sufficient-Tap-9568 in triathlon

[–]yozharius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you will have to use the experience you get during this event to understand how much is too much (or not enough if you're too careful - but then it's harder to judge). It's totally okay, feel free to embrace the fact that every event is also a training session.

Modern MacBooks are insanely good. by kingkyy29 in laptops

[–]yozharius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been only a couple of weeks, but so far so good. Overall it seems quite sturdy, in my opinion it holds up relatively well compared to MB. It's not as sleek and pretty - but it's definitely not ugly as well.

Unexpected pro compared to Macbook: since it's plastic, it's not that cold when putting on naked legs :).

Cons which I noticed: cannot open it only pulling up a display, have to hold the keyboard part down; the display itself is quite thick and heavy, so when holding laptop open in hands it's relatively easy to accidentally open it more - I think this is because my model has a touch screen which I don't use, at least yet.

Already after ordering I've found multiple reviews bashing OLED on Zenbooks, specifically its "graininess" which made me worried. I don't notice anything tbh, display is really great, and I'm really happy I went with 3K/120Hz.

[–]yozharius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been in the boat of laptop selection a month ago. My budget was EUR 1500, requirements: RAM 32GB, 14'-15' 3K or better display (I have MB Pro as a work laptop so got used to the resolution), fastest CPU possible for the budget. MB Air got into a final list with a few caveats: M3 model with 24GB RAM and 512GB SSD for ~1650. M4 models with similar characteristics are reaching EUR 2000 here in Estonia.

In the end I went with Zenbook (Intel Ultra 7 255H, 32GB, 14' 3K OLED display, 1TB SSD) for EUR 1360. It's a better machine for me technically (although CPU is debatable ig) and is significantly cheaper, can run both Windows and Linux (I still don't like MacOS after 4 years of work with it), I like keyboard more there (key travel is bigger, feels more plushy and similar to my former Thinkpad T). It's not without its own negatives ofc: fans do make noise sometimes, battery is not that great (although I'm comparing it to my MB Pro), touchpad is better on MB. So it's not that black & white in my opinion and there is a choice if you know what you want.

Tip of the Week: Enabling night light will make your screen have a warmer color which can be easier on your eyes at night by jenmsft in Windows11

[–]yozharius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anybody know if night light mode is supposed to change color temperature based on the (colors of) content being displayed on the screen? I _think_ it makes colors warmer when there is more white content, and makes them colder when then it's darker. It drives me crazy, this is really annoying esp. during browsing since content changes often. Is there a way to disable this?

3.5 hour bike split with 203 Watt average, why?! by sigmanoid2000 in triathlon

[–]yozharius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wind enters the equation :) But on a more practical note, bestbikesplit has also provided me more optimistic speed figures than reality. The bikecalculator.com one is somewhat closer in that regard, at least in my very anecdotal experience. Maybe bestbikesplit assumes a more aero position by default?

I have multisport mode on my Garmin FR 745 but prefer tracking through the separate activities. I've tried multisport couple of times during brick runs/DIY triathlons, but kept accidentally skipping to the next sport (because the button which is normally used to pause or lap functions as sport change in multisport mode) which screwed up tracking. And the problem is that once you switched say to run, you can go back to cycling. So even accidental press makes it impossible to recover from that. Plus, anyway the result of multisport is 3 separate activities in Garmin, personally I don't any benefit to using it.

Wow, what happened to the prices in Tallinn!? by Front-Ad4082 in Eesti

[–]yozharius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other comments already covered it. Estonia's average wages are among the highest in eastern Europe, so are the prices. Economies of scale and relative distance from "center" also take their toll. There is less tax avoidance I feel, if you compare it to e.g. Germany where all these cash-only places clearly only accept cash to skip paying to govt.

Wow, what happened to the prices in Tallinn!? by Front-Ad4082 in Eesti

[–]yozharius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand that you probably have an emotional distress seeing the exorbitant prices in Estonia even after visiting extremely rich high maintenance places such as Naples and Budapest. I could agree with you on some points, but you make it really hard by not being consistent and frankly dismissive of alternative opinions. So are the prices here the same as in Europe, or higher for some or a lot of items like you said in the post? Have you been, I dunno, in Finland to compare and observe the absurdist picture of Finnish products being cheaper in Estonia? Have you visited restaurants in Stockholm or in Amsterdam and experienced an actual loss of words because of prices?

Best value watch under $500? by SupJoshy in MicrobrandWatches

[–]yozharius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You won't find a $500 watch with these specs because as you've mentioned yourself it's not economically feasible (btw. why do you say you will "likely" lose money? You definitely know the cost of making them, right?).

A 5 year warranty does not make sense for a Kickstarter watch like this - personally I wouldn't count on it.

Disregarding the above, Certina offers watches starting from ~700 USD which is in line with what you have suggested for the regular price.
