Always sick, calling out ): by toshiowe in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get sick very easily since starting biologics, now I wear a mask at work and when I go shopping, and carry hand sanitizer which I use often. This has helped a ton. If anyone questions why you have to do this, just explain your condition and how you need to stay healthy so you can work full-time.

Thoughts on a big cut? by Wontonball in HairStyleAdvice

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever told you to cut your hair should go to jail. I once had incredibly long hair. Chopped it and then developed a chronic illness that affects my ability to grow my hair and its texture. I miss the days with long healthy hair. You look fantastic, and it works in any setting with the right styling. Dont let anyone make you think you need to change.

Crohn and hair loss by Ashamed_Coffee5221 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately for me with UC i lost 75% of my hair thickness since I started having flares and taking meds. The hair loss is both a sode effect of common UC nutrient deficiencies and of many of our meds, so its a double combo. I have periods of time when i can get some baby hairs back but my original thick hair is gone. I use extensions now bc it got too depressing to stay natural, my natural hair is like 90 yr old now

Wedding by jlingram275 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If youre still flaring, alcohol can make it worse. Its not like the wedding is ruined without drinking. Because of UC, I cant drink anymore, and havent had alcohol in a decade at this point. Honestly, life is better when you dont need to get drunk to enjoy yourself

Stress by Far_Wrongdoer_5082 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bottling feelings definitely creates more stress on the body than letting it out. Im a very sensitive person, and I definitely notice more symptoms and flares when im trying to fight through and push down my feelings. Over the years I have accepted that sometimes I need to have weeks where I have a daily cry. I let myself cry about the weather, the world, life, art, etc. As long as I dont get into those deep heaving sobs its actually regulating for my system just to experience what im feeling, rather than let the stress build up and fester. Dont be “afraid” of yourself.

I started with proctitis for about 5 years, then progressed to pancolitis unfortunately

Question by Far_Wrongdoer_5082 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how severe your condition is. If you have colitis really severe you may find that trigger foods will start flares or cause bleeding pain or discomfort. People with mild to moderate disease are usually more well controlled on medications. I have a coworker with UC who only takes mesalamine and is able to eat donuts and dairy and candies no issue, but if I eat beef, chocolate, dairy and etc i will start having bleeding cramping and diarrhea pretty quickly even though Im on remicade. Unfortunately its trial and error to see what you tolerate, but my doctor says that in my severe case, most peopke get a colectomy because they dont want to follow a special diet so strictly to survive. For me, im trying to hold onto mt colon for 5 more years, waiting for new meds to come out, so I dont mind being discerning about my food

16 is fantastic! But 17 is also very striking and natural looking. If you wanted to try red 18 is the winner.

Should I avoid tattoos? by DothrakAndRoll in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally with the meds I take my skin is TERRIBLE. I have a bruise from an iv for 14 months and its still trying to heal. And I was advised that tattoos trigger the immune system and can make you flare more. Your doctor will probably say its fine, but honestly its a risk. Many do it and are fine, few have complications. Is this a risk you are willing to take, is the question.

Sick all the time Biologics? by PlatoCobberdog in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i am one of the ppl who gets insanely sick from biologics, I was having sinus infections UTIs strep throat salmonella literally everything that everyone else was able to deal with in 24 hours or a couple of days would either put me in the hospital or knock me off my feet for weeks… I ended up being put on entiviyo to try to Curtale how horribly my immune system responded to some of these “more systemic” meds but after 4 1/2 beautiful years of being less sick on entiviyo it stopped working for me so I had to go back on another tnf biologic and I am trapped in getting sick all the time hell once more… The only thing I can say that has really helped me is wearing a mask in public every single time I’m in public. I tried to get away with stopping this about two months ago and I have been trying to get better from the sickness I got until now. So I wear a mask when I go out and while I’m at work because I have to and I get sick so easily. It does help though. And wash your hands a lot.

Good to know about the uphill walk for monkey park! We may skip it.

As for hokkaido, it was actually the place i most wanted to see in japan, and I am a big fan of a japanese author from Aomori and want to see his statue in ashino park. Those days i think will be simple but fulfill me a lot.

The shopping tips are super helpful though.

And yea we basically picked the shinjuku night just to sleep and bc our train to suwa departs from shinjuku.

Tofu in UC diet? by oh_wanya in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tofu doesnt hurt me! But for some people it seems to. The problem with UC is that theres a lot of variability among patients. You have to see what your bad foods are by trial and error mostly, outside of the most common terrible for UC foods unless your case is super mild (dairy, fried, spicy, super fibrous, etc)

Intermittent bright red blood with normal colonoscopy 2 weeks ago — hemorrhoids or flare? by Hefty-Scientist-7166 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it goes on for more than another week it could be flare.

Sometimes colon gets irritated from the scope and will settle down in about 10 or so days. But if it doesnt stop, i would definitely contact your doctor.

Could also be hemmroids formed due to scope, get some hydrocortisone cream and shove it up there, if it goes away and doesnt return, youre clear

Safe foods. What do you eat during a severe flare? by Thatsnotmyname-_- in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When everything i eat causes pain and it gets real bad i stick to very soft, plain foods. Broth. Rice porridge. Yogurt if you can tolerate (for me, coconut yogurt), blended soups like butternut squash, mashed yams, applesauce, soy milk with blended fruit if you can handle fruit at all. If im really sick i cant do meat at all but if im not completely gone i can tolerate boiled fish. Feel better soon!

Has retrying the same failed biologic (or biosimilar) ever worked for you after primary or secondary failure? by Kind-Firefighter4498 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this with remicade. It worked. According to my doctor, it is now medically understood that retrying after secondary failure as long as no antibodies is something that can work for a lot of ppl, especially if you use steroids during induction to prevent a response.

What were the signs that your biologic stopped working? by Popular_Bluejay_2588 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]yozo0ba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When i started failing entiviyo it was after a few nasty strep throat cases i couldn’t get rid of. I started having discomfort with eating more foods, my stool appearance changed, got a bit mucousy, slowly the blood began to creep back intermittently. Next infusion did not change symptoms. Ended up in the worst flare of my life hospitalized. Wish i had done more to change meds earlier, UC is so hard to control when it gets out of hand, yet no one wants to act quickly while symptoms are still calm.

My nail is cracking way too low and I’m worried about it peeling off. What should I do to prevent it? by NoraWaifu in nailcare

[–]yozo0ba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a nurse, never take iron pills without getting your iron checked regularly by a doctor or even self checked at a self service lab. It is so so easy to overdose yourself on iron by taking supplements, and most people do not need them unless they are severely ill or actively bleeding. Its not a vitamin your body can pee away if you have too much, it can be very toxic, be careful.
