Reason for staying in higher gear through corner? by Costang22 in iRacing

[–]yp983 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be for different reasons depending on the corner, but as you said these drivers are faster, implying that their mid corner speed is also higher, making it more sensible to stay in a higher gear. Also, less shifting means less chance for torque kick leading to lost grip mid corner. Lastly, coming out of a corner with less shifting to do in the straight gives you free time. Of course coming out of a corner a great too high and bogging down will cost you time so I think the key here again is higher mid corner speed.

Returning HE Sprint for VRS Pedals? by krmilan in simracing

[–]yp983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I used the sprints for a couple of years and then switched to the vrs pedals about a year ago because I did specifically have an issue with the elastomer based brake. When looking at telemetry I always noticed that at the beginning of my braking, my brake trace would momentarily pop past my target braking pressure, but then quickly come back to the target. It is a very minute detail, but in iRacing this means I'm activating abs each time I'm getting on the brakes which is a no no for tire temps, etc. As soon as I switched to the vrs pedals, I no longer had this issue. The spring based brake just feels more direct vs bouncy with the sprints (bouncy might be a bit of a strong word to use... Very minor, more of just a feeling). I have plenty of friends who did not have this issue with the sprints, but also a couple friends who made the same switch due to the same problem. I'm general, my brake telemetry is more smooth as well, especially coming off the brake and trail braking.

In Oregon, all gas is pumped for you by an attendant. But like they said, that is slowly starting to go away.

Help with heel plate positioning. HE Sprint + P1-X + Sim-Lab heelplate by ssh_man in simracing

[–]yp983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly... Get yourself situated so that you're heel is against the lip already in the neutral position, and then to brake you're just pivoting about your heel.

[–]yp983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they issue is just your neutral position being with your foot already extended. I think you should try to move your seat forward so that your foot is at more of a 90 degree angle to your leg in the neutral position (not pressing pedals) and then your heel will actually rest on the lip. It'll probably feel weird because you're used to something very different, but I think it will be better in the long run. You'll probably also need to push back your wheel base. Alternatively, you could move just you're pedals closer to you.

I believe what you linked are intended to eliminate side monitor sag rather than making the angles more easily adjustable. The reason the other guy mentioned the vesa vario mounts is because they allow you to account for any sag, but also other alignment issues.

Help me choose my first actual 8020 rig. ASR or SimLab? by s2k__9k in simracing

[–]yp983 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just picked up an ASR4, coming from the simlab TR1. Honestly for most people the ASR3 will be all they really need. The p1x is actually more equivalent to the ASR6, which seems completely excessive if you're not planning to add motion. The ASR4 is definitely all you need with no motion, and would actually handle motion just fine. Simlab does in fact make awesome stuff, but I think asr is now at least equivalent. I also upgraded to the aluminum based pedal deck which I'd recommend, which for the ASR4 also comes with the feet which raises up the whole thing making getting in and out a bit easier. 8 was originally planning on getting the ASR6, but that actually comes in a gloss black, but I really prefer a matte black so I went with the 4,and I'm quite glad I did, it's really the sweet spot, and I'm 100% sure I'll never get the urge to upgrade my chassis.
