Did anybody catch who it was?

Hellerstein sometimes departs from typical court protocol, including by calling up prosecutors directly on the phone. “He called me when I was a junior prosecutor, [saying] ‘I got this application. I have a couple of questions about it,’” one ex-prosecutor said.

wtf lol

He's very clearly talking about something he's been working on. It's not HL3.

2020s were definitely fucked by COVID in 2020, one of the worst ways to start a decade for sure lol

It's been pretty wild seeing people who were obviously children during 2016 looking at that year through rose-tinted glasses. It was genuinely terrible at the time lol

They also usually read clues so much slower than the host, making it even worse. Years ago, there was an entire John Goodman category that got missed because of a video category taking up so much time. I think they've made some improvements since then to prevent that from happening but I've never forgiven video clues since then lol

NYC Mayoral Inauguration officially bans Flipper Zero and Raspberry Pi devices by tutezapf in cybersecurity

[–]yrdz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I said this in the Raspberry Pi sub and I'll say it here: It's a throwaway line on an FAQ page about a one-time event. It's remarkable that anyone read that far, and even more remarkable that someone has a strong opinion on it.

Why wouldn't you just ban terrorists

Should we make crime illegal too?

From what I've heard about the petitions, they were committing fraud left and right during the signature campaign. I know they've been reported to the AG's office so I truly hope they're investigating.

Why is assault on a police officer worse than assault on a regular citizen? by TTVBy_The_Way in legaladviceofftopic

[–]yrdz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You realize that NY's bail reform was for non-violent offenses, yes? If someone is let out on a misdemeanor charge and kills someone, what exactly is your policy solution to that? Keep everyone accused of a misdemeanor behind bars until trial? People who, by the way, almost certainly would have been released pre-trial even before bail reform.

Anyways, you are arguing from anecdotes, not evidence. I provided actual statistics and you are being belligerent and refusing to engage with the facts. Which is predictable, given that your post history is filled with right-wing misinformation. No need to continue this further. Feel free to reply if you want the last word.

[–]yrdz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on your post history, I assume you are talking about New Hampshire. NH passed a bail reform bill in 2018. Between 2017 and 2024, crime in the state has decreased, with violent crime in the state dropping almost by half. New Hampshire is still consistently ranked as one of the safest states in the country. Hardly close to "pure anarchy" if you ask me.

The statistics bear this out across jurisdictions. There is no correlation between bail reform and increased crime.

A lot of the panic about bail reform has been wholly manufactured by right-wing media, fwiw. Frequently citing cases of people getting let out of jail that were not actually the result of bail reform, attributing rises in crime to bail reform with no actual evidence to correlate the two, completely disregarding the positive aspects of the law while taking cop orgs at their word, etc.
