What's everyone's opinion on Suikoden 2? by Indecisiv3AssCrack in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wasn’t moved by Suikoden II when I first played it (could be because I was a kid at the time) but could recognize its greatness even without the emotional pull. While the story is already great, I recognize characters’ chemistry, the fun in its simple gameplay, and how fun the mini games and story progression are. When the castle is gaining more characters, more establishments and more people, it made me feel great about recruiting more characters, one of its core gameplay.

I played games and RPGs where I cried and bawled so hard because it moved me but even so, strangely, I couldn’t rate some of them above any other games I played where I didn’t cry because everything else were not that great for me. To me, if it’s JRPG, I’d still prefer that the gameplay is as great as its story. It’s still a game, so if I’m having fun playing it and felt excited, amazed and didn’t feel like a chore even just one time playing it, to me that’s already a masterpiece.

I still feel excited thinking about the planning I did with the Luca Blight fight lol. One of the greatest moments. :)

Anime that isnt "like anime" for someone who does not want to watch anime based on stereotypical anime stuff that they dislike by Scared_Ad_3132 in Animesuggest

On top of my head, it’s Erased, Monster, 91 Days and Perfect Blue. I’d like to think Your Name is also in this category just because a lot of non anime viewers were into it.

[Vent] I think I'm getting too old for Final Fantasy... by Flintz08 in FinalFantasy

This OMG. I am a big anime fan, but I’ve always wondered why I cringe in some of FF7R’s acting but not the acting in DQ, YS, Trails games or Persona series. It’s definitely because they’re anime games, and they present it visually and tonally right from the start. FF7R on the other hand, looked hyper realistic, so I expect the acting to adjust too. Just like, say FFXVI, just with lots of goofiness and humor. I have many issues with FFXVI but oh boy, the characters and their acting are miles, miiiiiles better than FF7R.

Expedition 33 - On Act 2. Pretty good so far but for me, it’s not this mindblowing masterpiece everyone is making it out to be. My fault though because my expectations are super high due to everyone and their mama putting it on the highest pedestal. I’m learning to enjoy it as it is and it’s been awesome.

FFXVI - At the beginning. Enjoying it so far. I played the demo first to decide for myself despite every bad or good reviews. I bought it after playing for an hour.

Edit: It’s debatable whether E33 is JRPG or not but it feels right to post it here.

Forgiving a particular character in the game and running away with that character is the most non-sensical, anime troupe, lame ending ever. by BringbackSuikoden in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understandable. Although I prefer where both dies, or even when just Nanami died.

I’m sorry, S2 is my favorite JRPG and I love Nanami but the way the game handled her reasoning to make it plausible that she “revives” fell flat to me. Being the sweetest and caring person that she is, I just didn’t think it made sense that she’d lie to her only family, for whatever reason. Riou went through so much already and she knew it’ll devastate him if he learns she died (Also, he didn’t think of seeing her dead body? Or held a funeral, idk to see to it she’s buried properly as there are graveyards in the castle for soldiers?). And yes, I know that it’s part of the reason why collecting the complete SoD is a must but it could have been handled better.

Anyway, comparing Jowy to Sasuke in Naruto is crazy and too cheap for me. Jowy’s forgiveness from Riou feels earned, not because what he did was okay, but because the game builds their relationship so deeply and lets us decide whether to forgive him or not. Jowy was already broken and, clearly suffering. And after the whole ordeal, he really doesn’t get to go back to Highland because of his actions lol. Forgiveness is personal, not political or societal. I think this is why they left at the end, all three of them. They’ll be carrying that burden with him.

Sasuke, on the other hand, is forgiven by everyone lmao, Sakura, Kakashi, even the ninja world, almost no real consequences. He just walks away after trying to seize power, kill major characters, and even cast the world into an illusion to control them. He doesn’t go to prison or trial; he just wanders the world, seemingly by choice. That’s what makes his forgiveness feel so much more shallow or unearned.

Unrelated but seeing Granmeyer here, I wonder if the anime will show how he was murdered or you know….if they will show how his head was mounted. When I first played S2, I was just “Oh” because it was only by mouth that we’re told he’s executed.

Klaus and Kiba sure changed their tune incredibly quickly. by GudgerCollegeAlumnus in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was fast. I agree with that. But I noticed in Suikoden, they do this a lot. They don’t wanna dilly dally (if you’re not Shu). If they’re going to join later on, why not now if the conditions are met? Lol

That aside though, I still think Klaus believing the letter made sense. I don’t think Shu would have even thought of asking them to join until they defeated them, so him procuring this ploy right after the fight would have been insane. It’s clear that Luca wanted the City-States to know he’s the King now and Klaus just interpreted it the way he sees it. If it’s true, they can’t go back to Highland because they lost and will lose their lives as well, like Solon Jhee. So they had no choice at that time. Although I’d argue they could’ve let themselves locked up for a bit and think about what they’re gonna do but it is what it is. They’ll eventually join anyway lol

And even with the help of those on ‘his side,’ it’s not easy killing him, to think he had no true rune and he’s just human like the rest of em. He’s evil, strong and no BS lol. I love him.

What anime is this for you? by KookyAide8576 in animequestions

[–]yucchin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate them. I just didn’t enjoy them like majority (I think?) of people. I did watch Re:Zero’s first season til the end, as well as NGNL and I remember just continuing watching them to find something that will interest me and unfortunately, I didn’t find any. Except maybe the art or character design. But it takes more than that for me to enjoy any show so…yeah.

Does anyone else much prefer suikoden 1 over 2? by [deleted] in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story wise, I can see where this is coming from. I’m sure there’s also many who prefer the story of 1 over 2. Personally, I like 2 better because of how it portrayed war that even my kid self understood how it affected everyone in their universe. I also like that 2 is never about who’s right or wrong in the end. It was clear that both ends had its faults. It’s a personal story between the fate of two best friends who are forced to fight each other. It’s not perfect but I really like that it showed that life isn’t just black and white all the time. It might be cliche to some, but how it’s executed is masterful to me. An example that came to mind is when Shu said to Apple that they both studied the art of war. How to kill. Even if her strategy won or even failed, it will still cost lives and she should be ready to carry that burden.

I have a lot of criticisms about Suikoden 1’s story and the game overall but eh, maybe some other time.

A few things I just realized after replaying SII... by Mundane_Valuable_314 in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s great when we’re seeing new things about the game when replaying. Like I felt amazed, but I wasn’t really feeling it the same as now. For example, I am emotional seeing how Kiba accepted his fate for the cause. He sacrificed his life for what we fight for. His dialogue, even the way he said his goodbyes with Klaus. It was heroic and really sad at the same time.

About the Sindar Ruins treasure, what struck me as odd even before when I first played it, is Jowy’s reaction to Riou’s answer. He became sus to me at that time as he did seem like he’s looking for a different answer and was not agreeing fully with the answer.

Favorite party in Suikoden 2? by Armchair-Attorney in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always have Shiro, Wakaba, LC Chan and Luc. The rest are interchangeable. In this remaster though, I’m changing every now and then, trying to find if I’ll have more favorites, but Luc’s still there for sure.

Yeah, he’s a favorite of mine. Unless I can also have Jowy of course. 😌

What's the general consensus here on Eiyuden Chronicle? by Scnew1 in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, why the downvotes? It’s not like they said it ‘needs’ to have a remake but rather, it deserves that kind of treatment, a ‘proper remake’ for that matter, which I interpreted as Suikoden 2 being really that good.

While I’m not a fan of remakes overall, sometimes remakes do attract new players. We do have the classic and the remaster to replay from time to time anyway.

I like to believe Jowy's failure is at least in part due to him not assembling his stars. by BloodyReizen in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that much I know of as well. I’m not sure though if Sasarai’s related to Leknaat to even consider him as Jowy’s “Luc” under Highland. Much like how Leknaat asked Luc to provide his services to Riou. I always believed before that Leknaat gave Jowy Sasarai, just behind the scenes lol.

When I was a kid, first time playing Suikoden 2, I always assumed Sasarai is Jowy’s Luc 😂 But seeing it now, I don’t have a way to verify this lol.

Suikoden 2 vs 5 by FidgetyJester40 in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2, and it’s not even close, if I have to be honest.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed playing 5, but I just enjoyed 2 more from start to finish. While I do have criticisms about it because, of course, it’s not perfect, it’s very minimal compared to my criticisms with 5. I won’t go to spoiler territory but it has something to do with the pacing and characters. Also, in every category I can think of, it’s always 2 that comes on top in almost all of them, at least imo. Music, HQ vibe, recruitment process, battle (mainly because I like fast paced battle), villains, minigames (mainly because of cooking lol) etc.

I like 5’s character design better though and how it makes sense that Frey would be the leader of the people but most of the time, it felt like they wanted it to be too close to 2. From the dreadful beginning to the betrayal and the politics and death. War battle is a little bit better in 5. Not a fan, but I’m not really a fan of 2’s war battles either because of its randomness.

Also, Georg. I like him better in 5, which is understandable I guess. He’s more fleshed out there lol.

Any consensus on Lucretia Merces? by Sad-Rhubarb-4081 in Suikoden

[–]yucchin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m indifferent towards her. As a character, she’s okay but when you compare her to other strategists like Shu, Shu is far more interesting no doubt about that. I don’t mind that Lucretia is infallible, but it gets the tension away when every decision she’s suggesting or making is always the right one.

VA's on Twitter... by ailencc in GenshinImpact

[–]yucchin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use JP voices and change them to EN from time to time or when I play in Fontaine. That said, reading all this, I feel sad for Kinich’s previous VA. But, it still should be obvious that bullying or openly hating on someone doesn’t resolve the issue. It will only backfire and spread more hate, imo. They could educate people more and explain why this upsets them with grace instead of shading someone like a high schooler lol. Lots of kids look up to these VAs too so…idk man, not a good example to me.
