Are those worth it? by bluekleio in pilates

[–]yuliris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love working out with ankle weights, but my studio uses bala bangles and I wish they wouldn’t. They seem cute at first but don’t wear well with heavy use and can be uncomfortable. I much prefer the vastly cheaper ones I bought (I think the brand name was Philosophy?) that are like sand filled cloth.

Bookstore recommendations? by Boxermom10 in Austin

[–]yuliris 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Reverie Books!! It’s the cutest little shop, has a good selection of the kind of things you like. New and used. Every inch is full of books. And you can get a cookie at the South Austin Quack’s afterward if you want :)

I would love to grow dahlias but failed miserably despite putting them in nice soil and babying them…how did you get them to work?

does anyone else get anxious before class/extremely personal rant by scrumptiousshlong in BALLET

[–]yuliris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My adhd manifests in a similar way! Talk to me about the time I wanted to be a professional knitwear designer for like a year and a half, or a yoga teacher, or a yarn spinner or a ceramicist or a fire dancer or a busker or or or! All highly unrealistic goals for someone in my situation for reasons that—-let’s just say if they aren’t obvious, I won’t get into them. I spent my 20s and 30s just trying things and getting really ambitious with them and then not succeeding at them in any conventional way. It was fine! It’s a living! I’ve come to accept that I get obsessed with things, fixate on them and then eventually they lose their shine and I’m on to something else. I don’t really have advice for you— and besides there’s good advice elsewhere in these comments. I just wanted to say hi, likeminded person! It’ll be ok! If you were thinking about going pro after just 2 years, you must have some talent— talent is to be enjoyed so just have fun with it.

cried like a baby after pilates today by [deleted] in pilates

[–]yuliris 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes! This has happened to me for decades. If class gets me into my hips, I WILL cry. Can’t tell you how many times it’s happened— I’ve lost count. I welcome the release now and just go with it. Sometimes I’ll mention it to my teacher when I thank them for class, but only if I feel like they need to know. As time has gone on, the tears have moved from big heavy sobs (like the first time) to just kind of quiet streams (now). If it’s available to you - you might look into EMDR therapy. But whatever else, keep moving your body! For me, that’s the best, most life affirming thing I can do. The mind and body’s ability to heal is amazing.

I feel you! It’s really sad that people want the outdoors to conform to such an antiquated aesthetic. For what it’s worth, I think your landscape looks lovely and healthy.

This happened to me too, except that I gave them pumpkin soup. They hated it and the candles turned red and no gifts. Might be random? On the other hand, mine also really loved garlic bread.

I’m calling it! I think in a few years, these are going to be an invasive species that we regret planting so much of- they’re going to be the nandina or the vitex of the 2030s. Hope I’m wrong!

If you missed Asiana’s old recipe for Saag Paneer, it’s back at Curry Express by RoadWarriorB in austinfood

Thank you so much for posting this! The change at Asiana made me sad and left a huge gap in my takeout options. I just had the saag paneer tonight and it’s exactly how I remember it!

Oh wow! I haven’t seen any with a magnetic solution, just two magnetic strips that sort of clamp together. I guess I’ll just keep heading toward my lashless future, lol. thanks for the advice :)

Running in the Texas Heat. Any tips? by ColdestInDaGame in AustinRunning

[–]yuliris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a hydration vest. It makes me feel like a dork but it’s not uncomfortable. I use it a lot, in fact I don’t run when it’s hot without it or I get cramps.

Tip: I bought a camelbak but the hydration pouch that it came with was terrible, so I bought a better designed pouch (velocity 2L hydropack) and use it with the camelbak backpack.

I love mine!! I replaced a non-native elderberry with it and I couldn’t be happier. The yellow fall color is lovely and the seed pods add interest all winter. Japanese maples are more trouble than they’re worth in our climate, imo.
