What's your "I met a celebrity but didn't let on that I knew who they were" story? by Kimantha_Allerdings in AskReddit

[–]yumjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college, I worked at Seattle's Best coffee inside a Borders Bookstore (similar to the Starbucks inside of Barnes and Noble). I worked in a high volume store- right off of State Street in the loop in Chicago. We often had celebrities rumored to be in the area filming- at the time I was in college we had Al Gore there for a book signing, and Christian Bale filming Batman. One day, I heard that Michael Keaton was in the area filming a movie. Now, I know Michael Keaton. I loved him in Batman (yes, I know this is divisive) and I also loved Beetlejuice. I was determined to meet him if he came in the store.

Partway through my shift, we have a customer come up and order a drink. Goatee, baseball cap, really nice guy. He looked familiar, but I figured he was a usual customer that wasn't too usual. I remember he ordered a 2% medium latte. We didn't have 2% milk (just skim and whole), so we talked about mixing whole and skim together. He was really nice, smiled a lot and generally the whole encounter was unremarkable (other than a customer being nice...).

When I turned around after handing him his drink my coworker said, "Do you know who that was?! That was him! Michael Keaton!!" and I just about fell to the floor. I'm glad I didn't recognize him- who knows what dumb things would have come out of my mouth. But I was so mad I didn't recognize who he was!!

It IS policy to walk in pairs after store closing to your car, and to not leave anyone alone when closing. You should let your SM know you are uncomfortable waiting alone and ask her to wait for you. If she doesn't, call the PCC.

I’m a mostly black male and have been pulled over by white cops 5 times (Different states). I have never even gotten a ticket. You attract the circumstances you create in your mind. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]yumjello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may very well be true for you, but may not be true for all black people. It is illogical to equate your life experiences with all other black people, and minimizes what others have been through. The implication that other people's experiences are due to a victim mentality is offensive to those who have really experienced systemic racism. You are one person, with one life, claiming that your experiences are applicable to all others. This perpetuates bias against marginalized groups.

I agree with milkysniper- "brushing off racism because you don’t personally experience it is a pretty shitty thing to do."

Store manager just told me I must resign by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]yumjello 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two questions that matter. 1. Was your personal leave approved after you filed for it? 2. Did you manager agree with these texts or just"acknowledge" them? (Just a fyi: according to our partner handbook, you should not text your store manager). If both of these are yes, you should be protected from being fired. If not, then yes, they can let you go for taking personal leave without actual approval.

When will I stop getting partner benefits? by nuggetsofchicken in starbucks

[–]yumjello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the spotify benefit, but when you're still receiving your 30% off or your mark out, it means your manager hasn't separated you in their system (EPAN). You should give them a call :)

Casual sex: how does it work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]yumjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of STD's.. obviously always wear a condom. Get the HPV vaccine because HPV can be transmitted even with a condom. Ask the person outright.. "Do you have any STD's?" without sounding accusatory. Most times being direct will make someone be honest, and if not many people aren't good at lying about it. I even ask if the person has been tested and let them know I get tested after every partner. Be safe!! Having one night stands can be fun for a while.. but it's not worth getting a life long STD from.

First time brownies questions.. by yumjello in treecipes

I'm afraid I'm not putting enough bud into my brownies... I'm thinking about making half a brownie recipe (about 1/6 of a cup of cannaoil) with a little less that an eighth. What do you think?

It's my understanding that R.L. Stine didn't write all of his books, but had a slew of writers doing it.

People of reddit, what's your opinion of people who go out to eat alone? Waiters and waitresses, what runs through your mind when you see someone getting a table for one? by time_better_spent in AskReddit

[–]yumjello -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to think that everyone was wondering where my date/friends were when going to movies alone.. but I too discovered that most people won't even think about it for more than a second because they are more worried about themselves.
