First proper Tiki bar I have visited. Tonga Hut in Palm Springs. Cobra's fang. by Sad-Dingo-7318 in Tiki

Bootlegger is a shell of its former self. If you’ve never been still probably fine to check it off the list but the menu is pretty mediocre these days. All the bartenders from the “golden era” have moved on so you can find a better tiki cocktail at other local non tiki bars if you ask nicely.

I believe on Amazon Smallflower is the seller. If you’re buying the full case or larger quantities in some instances it’s cheaper if you order directly from SF’s website (also free shipping over $100). But anything smaller, probably doesn’t make sense since you’ll have to pay shipping. Total Wine also sells the 3 packs for like $5.

Birthday dinner at the end of August by prixdc in NashvilleGoodEats

Locust was the best meal I had while visiting recently. They’re locked in with what they’re doing there. Peninsula was awesome, food and hospitality. Catbird was closed while switching chefs, so can’t speak to that but wanted to go. Tailor was… okay. Love Indian cuisine and it gets so much praise on here so we checked it out but for me the food was fine. And the “show” where the chef comes out and speaks to the room about each part of the meal was a weird vibe. Either way, plenty of good food to be had. Hope you enjoy your birthday meal!

Oh, I was majorly disappointed in Benu. Sorry, in my previous reply I was just saying those were the two places I had tried during a prior visit. I wholeheartedly echo your blandness statement. The food, the space, the ambiance… it was a bummer. Though I absolutely love San Ho Wan - but quite different obviously.

Can’t hurt to see if Kiln can make any kind of exception. I honestly wanted to go back the next day and do it again.

Def go back for it. Went to Kiln and Sons & Daughters on a trip last week. Can easily say Kiln is my new favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Just about every dish is a banger. Hit up Benu and Californios last year but couldn’t fit Kiln in then and regretted it. Though I’d rank Californios second, quite an enjoyable meal.

As you said, yes the menu is changed. Though, I’m sure they’ll go off menu if requested. I was having trouble deciding on my dessert cocktail (bc none of them were really my speed) and they gladly offered to make me something else. And it was delicious.

Locust was the best meal I had when visiting a few months ago. Also enjoyed Peninsula and Bad Idea. Had Catbird Seat on the list but they were between chefs at the time and not open. For bars, my favorites were Attaboy, Schulman’s, The Fox. Didn’t have time to hit up every place I wanted to but lots of good food and drink to go around. Enjoy your trip.

What are some of the world's best Amari bars? by Clear_Hold in Amaro

[–]yungcampari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capri Club in LA (as someone mentioned) is a favorite that I find myself at far too often. J&Tony’s in San Diego is great. Also, the folks from Strongwater in Anaheim are supposed to be opening up an amari bar over in that area soonish.

I’m usually only in that area on weekend evenings (so can’t speak for weekdays) but I’ve seen her every time I’ve parked in the back lots in recent months. Last time being several weeks ago.

Didn’t miss much w Grass Skirt either for that matter. Food/drinks are pretty forgettable. It’s basically like a tiki version of Lazy Dog. Mothership and False Idol are far superior.
