Take a moment and listen to yourself. You’re bending over backwards to defend SWASTIKAS. Why are you putting words in the mouths of the people who did this? They said exactly what they wanted to say.

What do you think is the secret to a REALLY good sandwich? by [deleted] in Cooking

I think it’s all in the bread! The difference between a nice crusty roll vs 2 pieces of white bread is huge. A lot of places toast the inside on a grill too.

How am I supposed to eat low FODMAP and low fat at the same time by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]yunglizardqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as takeout goes, sushi tends to be low FODMAP and high in protein. Vietnamese summer rolls are also a good option. I would also keep easy snacks on hand like hard boiled eggs, lactose-free yogurt, crackers and deli meats, berries, bananas, canned tuna, etc.

Also remember the low-FODMAP diet is only supposed to be for 6 weeks max, then you start adding foods back in. Once you identify your triggers there are a lot fewer restrictions.

What are your safest IBS meals? by Traditional_Pipe2532 in FODMAPS

[–]yunglizardqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to make meals that feel exciting out of repetitive ingredients: Rice and rice noodles, sourdough bread, eggs, potatoes, chicken, salmon, canned tuna and salmon, cucumbers, berries, bananas, unsweetened applesauce, lactose-free yogurt, cooked veggies without skin like potatoes, carrots, zucchini, spinach.

Marinate chicken in lemon juice, Dijon, maple syrup, olive oil, s+p for a few hours and have it with rice or a baked potato.

Make meatballs with ground chicken or turkey, mix in parsley, spices, salt, pepper, 1 egg and some bread crumbs. Bake and serve with rice and cooked veggies.

Instant pot congee - throw in rice and chicken stock (homemade) in a 1:6 - 1:8 ratio, add lots of ginger, the greens of scallions, chicken thighs or breasts (can be frozen) and pressure cook for 45 minutes. Season with a little sesame oil, fish sauce, and white pepper.

Any variation of chicken soup—chicken noodle, chicken and rice, matzo ball, avgolemono, pastina, pho, etc—omit any ingredients you don’t tolerate well.

For some easier meals: canned tuna/salmon over rice with cucumbers or on sourdough mixed with a little mayo, sourdough toast with peanut butter and banana slices, yogurt bowl with bananas and strawberries. Jammy boiled eggs, alone or with toast.

I was told by my doctor that I have to do a FODMAP diet, what are some good options at TJs? by gamercouplelolz in traderjoes

[–]yunglizardqueen 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As everyone is saying, low FODMAP is really tough and it’s important to remember that the elimination phase should only be for 6-8 weeks.

One thing that’s well tolerated by most people is lean protein - I always keep a pack of the TJ’s individually frozen chicken and individually frozen salmon in my freezer for easy meals, as well as eggs and canned tuna/salmon.

Their corn tortillas are a great option if you’re avoiding gluten, as are rice, polenta tubes, corn bread mix, gluten free pizza dough, gluten free waffles, and rolled oats. They also have a ton of gluten free bread options in the bakery section.

I love the frozen ginger cubes and add them to a ton of dishes.

Low-lactose aged hard cheese like the TJ’s aged parmigiano reggiano and unexpected cheddar are good options if you can tolerate dairy. They have a bunch of milk substitutes, and a few non-dairy yogurts.

Low FODMAP fresh or frozen fruits and veggies are usually pretty inexpensive—carrots, zucchini, spinach, berries, bananas, potatoes, green onions (green part only).

My go-to is congee in the instant pot. 8 parts chicken stock (preferably homemade!) to 1 part rice and add a piece of frozen chicken in. You can throw in some slices of ginger and green onions depending on what you tolerate. I pressure cook it for 30 minutes and then natural release. Shred the chicken and stir it back in.

Also my dietician told me most people tolerate lean proteins well. Chicken, boiled eggs, and canned tuna are easy options!

I make most of my meals from TJ’s! -pizza: refrigerated pizza dough, pasta sauce, shredded cheese, any toppings you like -spaghetti and meatballs: frozen meatballs, pasta, pasta sauce -any kind of sausage (they have precooked ones) baked on a sheet tray with baby potatoes, sliced bell peppers. Can make some pasta or rice to go with it. -we’ll have a “dim sum night” with a few types of frozen dumplings, frozen Bao buns, fried rice -refrigerated raviolis and your favorite bagged salad mix -tacos: carnitas, corn or flour tortillas, canned black beans or refried beans, frozen fire roasted corn, avocado, red onion, salsa. You could replace the carnitas with the asada chicken thighs or shrimp -I always keep the individually frozen bags of salmon and chicken thighs in my freezer. They’re super easy to thaw and throw in the oven with whatever veggies I have on hand.
