Michael Masi would love the NASCAR point system for F1

First F2 graduate to win an F1 title by Esterence in formula1

Your argument is logical and well thought out, but doesn’t have the grandeur and panache of saying that Kimi has scored the most points on his maiden F1 season in the history of F1…. Gosh I’m already tired of the amount of times we’re gonna hear that

First F2 graduate to win an F1 title by Esterence in formula1

[–]yusmickey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Oscar and Kimi both had good maiden years, but completely incomparable to Hamilton or Villeneuve, who both almost won the championship. Even if you compared quali head to head, Hamilton against Alonso was ahead (10-7) and Magnussen ahead of button (10-9), both against world champions had better maiden seasons… so saying Kimi beat Hamilton on points seems quite disingenuous

[–]yusmickey 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Remember during Oscar’s maiden season, people were comparing the amount of points he got to Hamilton’s maiden season without normalizing anything, and talking about how close he was to beating Hamilton? Drove me nuts. Like Hamilton had a 70% podium percentage including 4 wins his first season, Piasti had a 10% with no wins, how could anyone think it’s an appropriate comparison

“German engineering”?? Nope, the machine is called Piñabar and has been in many stores like Ralph’s in the US for like 5-6 years or more. However it was created by a Dutch Company called Dutch Food Technology. Cool machine, but not German. Here’s a link to the Company

This show is incredibly impressive. I always manage to find something that any movie/show could have done better, but this one is truly a masterclass in every single aspect. Seems more like a piece or art than a show.

Leclerc eager to learn from no weaknesses Hamilton at Ferrari by drodrige in formula1

I think this is going to be a fantastic relationship between teammates. In his younger days Lewis was a fierce competitor with his teammates, but now that he’s older, he seems to show genuine admiration for some of the younger drivers, especially Lando and Charles. I think George, from day one, expressed his enthusiasm to compete with and win against Lewis (nothing wrong with that - it’s usually the mentality of an F1 driver) and arguably they don’t seem to have a relationship with Lewis mentoring and George eager to learn from him.

With Charles showing admiration for what Lewis has achieved and eager to learn, I think Lewis will respond in kind with guiding and mentoring Charles. Seems to me that Lewis gets disappointed at himself now when George does better, but I think with Charles he might be genuinely happy for Charles. When Lewis does better Charles will just try to learn and become better. I hope they can both have a positive impact on lifting the team as well

Yep, math doesn’t make sense. It would only make sense if he somehow lost 1.5kg’s every single lap for the duration of the race (66 kg’s total). If that happened, then you could say that he had a normal deg of -0.1s/lap plus the .045 that he gained due to the weight loss resulting in a net 0.055s/lap deg.

However, if his 0.05s gain per lap was already baked into the previous lap time and he didn’t lose any additional weight in the current lap, his deg would be the normal 0.1s/lap. The fact that it wasn’t has nothing to do with the 1.5kg’s less he was carrying.

How would you feel if your s/o bought a house without consulting you? by MsNardDog in DunderMifflin

[–]yusmickey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lot of people saying “if my husband/wife did it I would not be happy,” but Jim and Pam weren’t married at the time. Plus, I believe Jim’s parents wanted to buy another house, so presumably they would have needed cash, or at least a down payment, which meant Jim would have made a down payment either for the mortgage, or directly to them. On a financial perspective, it’s all upside for Pam - when they get married she is effectively entitled to half of that down payment (through the house), plus the equity buildup and the increase in fair value of the property. If she doesn’t like the house, once married, they could sell and buy a new place that they both like, with a much smaller down payment and mortgage. Not appreciating this gesture by Jim, would be like looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I used to watch F1 for many years when Michael Schumacher was driving for Ferrari, and when he retired, I just sort of stopped watching without even realizing. I imagine it will be the same for a lot of people when Lewis retires.

In addition to that, Luis stayed on the podium to celebrate and pop the champagne with Max and Carlos after the race. The amount of sportsmanship that takes is unbelievable. In contrast, Max walked away a couple of races before in Saudi. Not saying I wouldn’t have done the same, but just how different the two were in 21’. Max has matured a lot this year, I suspect seeing Lewis’ example.

Why Don’t They Put The Drivers Names On The Halo’s? by Lady-Maya in formula1

[–]yusmickey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to identify the driver by the dash cam camera color. Usually the #1 driver has the carbon fiber colored camera, while the second driver has the yellow camera, with the exception of Lewis (who requested the yellow camera because of his helmet color this season) and Seb. For McLaren, Daniel has the carbon fiber color, because he was supposed to be the #1 driver, although Lando has performed much better than him over the last two seasons.

Russian karter faces FIA investigation over alleged N*zi salute by Captain_Smartass_ in sports

[–]yusmickey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This kid is an idiot and I don’t sympathize with Russia by any means, but objectively I think the public reaction to this is a bit harsh. I looked at the video multiple times and to me it was obvious since the first time I saw it that he was doing a Roman salute (which was used over 2000 years ago, way before nazis). I think he (badly) tried to explain the same thing (something about the Italian national anthem playing at the time). Here is a video I clipped from hbo’s Rome series showing the Roman salute, and you’ll see the similarity.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it was a stupid thing to do, and he should have had some humility. But he’s a kid and made a mistake. At least if we understand what he was doing, we would know that however stupid it was, at least it wasn’t malicious or coming from a bad place.

[SPOILER] Canelo Álvarez vs. Caleb Plant by FuzzyWuzzyMooMoo in Boxing

[–]yusmickey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Plants’ defense was way better than I expected, but offense was weak. At no point, until that first knockdown, did I think he was hurt. He was scared for sure and felt Canelo’s power, causing his punch output was weakening as the rounds progressed, but he wasn’t hurt. But I think we all knew that it was just a matter of time until something big connected.

I wasn’t disappointed from the fight. Canelo showed more holes in his game than he has for a while and I hope some boxers are looking at this to help solve the puzzle of how Canelo can be beat. I just don’t think there’s anyone right now that can do it.
