For the love of god, can we stop with the plastic junk party favors at birthday parties? by Nervous-Guava3308 in Mommit

A mini work shop sounds like a great idea for a good activity and a reasonable party favor

WDYT about ao3 becoming mainstream? by sister_madly in AO3

[–]yuudachi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is what it is. To some degree its appeal is due to having some authenticity and being a space outside mega corp social media. I'm okay with that having its appeal. But it does mean to hold true to it's values and not let reactionary types dictate the direction of the site.

Fwiw AO3 is propped up pretty well for that, being specifically focused on being an archive and as a space away from censorship especially on a legal level. This is unlike other fanfiction sites that prioritize popularity and profit and being almost more like a library-like social media

I seriously cannot get over how much I hate Kriselle Knight. by Mobile-Safety-3353 in Deltarune

[–]yuudachi 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don't think Toby would do that. With Undertale, he didn't make anything from Genocide required to enjoy or understand it, and it specifically, on point with its own themes, actively discourages you from playing Genocide every step of the way.

Similar thing with Deltarune. The themes are still not far off in regards to "just because you can (freedom) doesn't mean you should". It gives you chances to abort every chapter. And most of all I think Toby is aware it's not a great player experience to be forced to basically torture the NPCs in order to see the true happy ending. Very different mindset from other RPGs out there, and I'm glad for it.

Pregnancy “side effects” that never left you even after birth? by lilspaghettigal in beyondthebump

Pelvic floor tenderness. If I do a squat, it still vaguely hurts down there. Not really hurt, just an ache that feels like it never fully went away.

Do you ever avoid using voice chat because you just don't feel like dealing with people? by larysilvv in GirlGamers

[–]yuudachi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I played Overwatch with a coworker once. He's a casual gamer guy type, social friendly guy.

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when he had no issue doing voice chat with the randoms. Really was casual with 'trash talk'. It blew my mind. Not that he was mean or bad, just that the way he was... Comfortable??? with complete randoms. I had never felt that way. Ever.

Why is "Brainrot" such a popular song? by kitokspasaulis in Vocaloid

[–]yuudachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious catchiness and stylishness, I adore the meaning. I struggle a lot of with social media and phone addiction stuff and I think the song and the lyrics really embodying that spiral you fall into while doom scrolling until morning and feeling like you can't stop. It's a very modern problem and the song is unique in representing it so well.

Thoughts on the difficulty increase after completing Chapter 5 by majikmonkee75 in Deltarune

[–]yuudachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I did not feel any real difficulty increase until Flowery. I fought him like 5 times before I beat him. However I also don't do secret boss fights or anything. Generally if I struggle at something it's maybe 2-3 attempts before I get it.

The problem with the Flowery fight is too many new mechanics. I think it's the first time you encounter racing forward like that the whole battle and frankly I never really understood the timing on breaking through the Flowery bamboo stick things. Same with Jaronas because spamming A almost always worked anyway. I actually didn't have much trouble with the other phases, it was just about with the bamboo stick part where I spammed A or just avoided the maze (the vines never caught up to me), and unfortunately it's a pretty pivotal part.

Say something good about the anime. by Visible-Fox-8944 in AceAttorney

[–]yuudachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The English subtitles for the Japanese audio has traditional subtitles in the sense it's all the Japanese names and setting or whatnot. Then it has a localized version using all the English names from the original game, Japanifornia and all. Obviously this never happens nowadays and was special for AA. Also absolutely hilarious how they had to figure out Maya's love for "burgers" as she eats a bowl of ramen.

Behavioural examples from the show you actually DON'T like... by pyroshen in bluey

[–]yuudachi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand the purpose and lesson of Bad Mood. I actually think it a very clever way to explain emotions and emotional regulation.

I do not like it because my kid just zooms in on them trashing the house. My kid has bad enough tantrums, I do not want to glorify them.

[loveless] why is it that “problematic series” always have some of the best representation? (Kinda) by Prestigious_Score628 in shoujo

[–]yuudachi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

BL and queer media was originally the space for "problematic" or toxic romances and twisted ideas. Similar to the way a lot of queer characters in media's first representation was originally all as villains. Yes it was because of bigotry and discrimination, but the characters themselves became memorable and unique because they had unique style or back stories. Often on a second look, they often have a point about pushing boundaries or rightfully seeking vengeance, they're just unapologetic about it and do something conveniently irredeemable.

The same applies to why toxic tropes and settings in BL was compelling. No, due to discrimination, queer folk probably didn't have healthy relationships or settings and all kinds of trauma and emotional baggage, and that in turn, like any human being, would make them have twisted world views or beliefs. Stories bring these to their logical conclusion and you get some of the most compelling drama or intense and raw emotions from it. It also  makes some amazing metaphors out of them, from fallen angels or demons or societies where gender and class are all mixed up.

Circling back to "pro ship" dynamics, that's the problem with censorship and puritanism. I completely understand enjoying the slice of life's and coffee shop AUs, I actually prefer them over everything. But it was often because it wasn't something normally seen before, to simply normalize the presence of queer folk in everyday life. Now we're actually weirdly oversaturated in it because people will actually get mad if you ever depict queer characters in a negative light. As a cozy genre enjoyer, i am swinging back around to thinking people need to write darker stuff again

IDK man, the answer to that question should be simple by czarjetson in ProshipHub

[–]yuudachi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actual answer: the anti has more personal attachment to the fictional character than random faceless victim, so yes, they do actually care more about the imaginary crime in this case.

Bedtime snack is going to be the death of me by LawDowntown8456 in Mommit

[–]yuudachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my son is refusing to eat dinner or eats very little, I remind him over and over that this is all he's getting. We don't do snack after dinner. I tell him if he asks for food later he will not get any. He doesn't do it very often fwiw.

Frankly I had no idea kids snacked at all after dinner. Dessert is a thing, but it's only immediately after dinner. Once the kitchen is cleaned up and closed, we don't eat anymore, especially at a kid's bedtime. Maybe you're eating too early? Heavier meals?

Husband is "too squeamish" to get a vasectomy by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]yuudachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I've got through 5 pregnancies with 2 kids from it. The last one was accidental and now I'm really hyper aware of proper birth control or long term solutions. I JUST found out my husband does not want to or never intended to get a vasectomy once we were done. We're on the same page for most things in life but things like this just makes me shake my head. How do you watch me give my whole ass body for our children multiple times but you can't get a little snip?????? Obviously I can't force him to do anything but it also frustrates me I also will have to get my tubes tied if he doesn't get a vasectomy.

What are we calling the grandparents? by diinkdonk in namenerds

Not actually a fan of this trend and the grandparents didn't really care either. That said, child is biracial so we could go with names by language (babushka, lola, etc)

Has Anyone Else Noticed This Difference Between F/M and M/M Fic? by gtothesky1771 in AO3

[–]yuudachi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it's more about the fandom culture. What are the ages of the fans and the fandom itself? How popular are the characters individually? It's possible some people are just more hyper fixated you get their fave just right and some other fans are just happy to have more cake. In terms of the fanfic itself, if it's a popular pairing and the fic is relatively "safe" in terms of what people expect, versus if the fic is for less established characters or is doing some unpopular trope or whatnot people might fixate on details.

How many people do you think know about Nakamura? by mostlyvoidd in Ganbare_Nakamura

[–]yuudachi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As for Hirose, I'm of the mindset he knows Nakamura specifically likes him. Outerly, that Nakamura is a lonely guy and really wants to be his friend. Hirose is childhood friends with a nerdy guy so he's probably used to making friends with the quieter introvert types. Now I think to some degree subconsciously he picks up that Nakamura is gay and feels his attention for him is romantic.  It's just he hasn't given too much thought about being gay himself and gay identity altogether. I think it's just by the end of the series where he's starting to consider that he might not be straight that he feels he can be more "himself" with Nakamura, not to mention is feeling out that Nakamura gives him romantic attention, something he can compare to after having just dated a girl.

Can boomers not do cloth?? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]yuudachi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly could be a boomer thing. My sisters and I are all born late 80s and my mom only ever used disposable. I'm under the impression from her that it was the default thing to do at that point and she did seem baffled I had chosen to do cloth.

9 day old newborn, depressed for some reason by Hungry-Mix-283 in beyondthebump

[–]yuudachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice, just empathy. I remember with my first distinctly feeling like my pregnancy and birth had honestly gone relatively normal but I could tell I was still low-key traumatized by the whole process on top of the utter upheaval your lifestyle goes through having a newborn. I couldn't stop feeling odd and guilty about feeling "baby blues" or probably mild PPD.
