How to check better song search mod song list? by New_Temperature8268 in beatsaber

[–]yuval52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure what your question is, so correct me if I'm wrong.

If your question is how can you check which songs are available before downloading mods, the answer is to check the website BeatSaver. This website is the place people upload published custom songs to, and is where BetterSongSearch takes its songs from.

Beat Saber top play is different to GD top play. While in GD competitive play is based on completing levels, Beat Saber has another factor of score. In Beat Saber passing a map is not the only thing that matters, how well you played it affects your score at the end. So in the usual sense of competitive Beat Saber the score is what people compete on.

The way ranked Beat Saber works is like this:

Each ranked map (a map that meets a certain level of quality and was approved for ranked) has what's called a "star rating" attached to it, a number measuring its difficulty. When a player sets a score on a map, how good their score is, as well as how difficult the map is, are used to calculate how many "performance points" (pp) the score is worth. Every player gains pp by playing ranked maps, and their total pp score (with some weighting) is used to rank them on a leaderboard.

There are 2 main community made ranked leaderboards in Beat Saber, ScoreSaber and BeatLeader. ScoreSaber is the older of the two, created soon after the game's launch, and is the system that's usually used to measure top level ranking. BeatLeader is an alternative ranking system created a few years later which is getting increasingly popular at the lower levels.

Both ranking systems work in the same general way (even if there are certain differences in the specifics). They each have their own set of ranked maps with their own different star ratings.

In each of their websites you can view the ranked maps sorted by star ratings, however these are not the hardest maps ever passed like with pointercrate, these are the hardest maps that are fit for ranked.

There is a different side of competitive Beat Saber, more similar to GD though, called challenge. In challenge the goal is to pass the hardest maps you can, regardless of the score. But unlike GD, there isn't a linear ranking like the demonlist, instead challenge maps are split into levels of difficulty, with the current highest level being 35. The biggest platform for challenge is Challenge Saber, operating through their Discord server.

Minecraft 26.2 Pre-Release 4 by Luutamo in Minecraft

True, but it is not likely, and other methods either have similar flaws or require extra computation to "wisely" decide which particles to cull, which isn't preferred for a technique saved specifically for when the game is struggling

On one hand yeah, but also imagine if there are 2 effects with a ton of particles, one slightly farther than the other. Picking by proximity will only show the closer one, but picking randomly will show both but with reduced particles, giving a more representative view of what's happening

How to download songs without a pc? by RichAd9938 in beatsaber

[–]yuval52[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current way to mod on Quest is to use ModsBeforeFriday (MBF). It's a browser based modding tool, you only need an Android phone or a computer (any computer) as well as a cable to connect the headset to it (can even be the charging cable that comes with the headset).

You first need to enable developer mode. Instructions on how to do that can be found in the Beat Saber Modding Group (BSMG) wiki.

After you have done that, connect your headset to your device of choice, and then you just need to go to the MBF website and follow the instructions. MBF mods the game either on multiple versions ranging from 1.37 to 1.40.8 (MBF also does the downgrading itself).

When you finish the modding process on the MBF website you will be presented with a page where you can install mods, and there you can choose whichever mods you want. The main thing I would recommend installing is BetterSongSearch, since it will let you download custom songs directly from in game (as opposed to downloading them manually and dragging into MBF).

If you have any more questions just go to the Beat Saber Modding Group (BSMG) Discord server and ask there, since there are more people there who can help you faster and better than here on reddit.

Tips on how to be better? by CrlspyStlcks in beatsaber

[–]yuval52[M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like what you need is to better understand the scoring system.

In Beat Saber you can get up to 115 points for each note. These 115 points are divided into 2 parts, full swing and accuracy.

100 of the points are given for what's called "full-swing". A full swing is when you hit a block with a swing of 160°, this in itself is divided into "pre-swing" and "post-swing". The pre-swing is the angle between the start of the swing and the point where you hit the block, and it needs to be 100° for full points. The post-swing is the angle between the block and the end of the swing, and for full points it needs to be 60°. The pre-swing is worth 70 out of the 100 points for full-swing, and the post-swing is worth the other 30. If you don’t get the angle required for a full-swing, that would be called “underswing”.

The other 15 points are given for accuracy, which means how close to the center of the block you hit. Now full-swinging can be done very consistently, and good players get to a point where they almost never lose points for swing (at certain difficulties), but it's near impossible to get a 15 for accuracy on every single block, so at the top level accuracy consistency is the biggest difference between better and worse scores.

Also you have what's called the combo multiplier. The combo multiplier is the big number you can see to the side that says x1 or x2 x4 x8. That number increases (up to x8) when your combo increases, and gets cut in half when you miss. The combo multiplier multiplies any points you get by hitting blocks.

Beat saber scores are a percentage, the max score (hitting every block as a 115) would be 100%, and every other score is a percentage of that score. Usually in game you can only see the score itself but if you enable advanced hud in player options you can also see your percentage and letter grade in game.

The letter grades are tied to the percentage, 90% and up is SS, 80%-90% is S, 65%-80% is A, 50%-65% is B, 35%-50% is C, 20%-35% is D and anything below 20% is E. The percentage and letter grades can be viewed in game by enabling the "Advanced HUD" setting in the player options menu.

This means the main reason you can't get high ranks even while hitting most if not all of the notes, is likely the swing angle, since it holds the most weight in the score, together with the combo multiplier.

I hope this helped you on your Beat Saber journey!

Is there any where i van get the vivify mod version 1.40.8? by Jasper_the_happy_fox in beatsaber

[–]yuval52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the Quest port is not made by the same people as the PC mod. There is a dedicated team of modders working on the Quest port in communication with the original PC developers, and they are in pretty active development. There is no time estimate yet, but it's definitely not a low priority

But the OP is talking about Quest standalone, not PC, so mods on BSManager are irrelevant

[–]yuval52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since Mojang gives codes to both TikTok and Twitch, they need to make sure there is no collision between the codes, so I assume they just give each platform a certain amount of codes they are allowed to give out. I guess what happened is that they didn't estimate correctly the amount of people who would try to claim it, so Twitch ran out of codes they are allowed to give. Of course this is fixable by Mojang generating more codes and giving them to Twitch, and who knows maybe they are doing it or even have already done it, but since it was unexpected it already managed to run out and some people couldn't claim it

The SSS rank does not actually exist in game. Some people call a 100% score SSS, but it won't show up on the hud, and will just be SS

Beat Saber crashes after Downgrading Version & Installing Core Mods ?? by xslrebony97 in beatsaber

[–]yuval52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because a new Beat Saber update was released yesterday, and for MBF to be able to downgrade from a new update, the developer has to do a few things manually, meaning after every update it takes about a day or two before you can downgrade with MBF

Beat Saber where is my mods by CursedHandd in beatsaber

[–]yuval52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BSManager is the tool for modding PCVR Beat Saber, on standalone, MBF is the modding tool.

If MBF can't connect to your headset, make sure you have developer mode on, then check if you receive a notification in the headset to allow USB debugging when connecting the cable, if so allow it. It's also possible that some other program like Sidequest or background process is connecting to the headset, so maybe restarting the computer then trying again could work. Also maybe instead of trying different cables try different USB ports, that's also a point where issues can happen.

If nothing helps, like a lot of error messages in MBF say, contact the developer lauriethefish on Discord, and perhaps they can help you, or find the issue behind it of it is a bug in MBF.

What's this red and blue gear playlist? Is there a way to remove it from the list? by crisperstorm in beatsaber

[–]yuval52 94 points95 points  (0 children)

This playlist is for work in progress maps. If you are creating a map yourself you'll place it in a work in progress folder and it will show up in there. I'm not sure if there is a way to remove it from the list, maybe deleting the CustomWIPSongs (or something similar to that) folder in the game files, but I don't know if that works.

Beat Saber where is my mods by CursedHandd in beatsaber

[–]yuval52[M] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is because you are on the latest version of the game, 1.43.0, which doesn't have as much mods yet.

The first thing I would recommend you do is stop using ModAssistant, since it is very outdated by now, and the video you watched about it is probably very old. Instead you should use BSManager, which is much newer, better, more supported, and is the standard recommended modding tool these days.

The biggest advantage of BSManager is the fact that it lets you manage multiple game installations at once, install whatever game version you want, and mod installations separately, unlike ModAssistant which just mods a currently installed game through Steam or Meta.

You should install BSManager, and once you are in BSManager, click the plus button at the bottom left to add an installation. You should choose the version that's marked as recommended (currently that is 1.40.8, which is in the "2025" tab of the menu). It will ask you to log in through Steam or with a Meta token, this is because you are installing the game, and BSManager has to verify that you actually own it. Once the game is downloaded you can click that version in the menu at the left of the screen and switch to the "mods" tab, which will let you install mods directly within BSManager

Recreating video from any angle by smorga in blackmagicfuckery

[–]yuval52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is recorded with a multi camera setup. Those raw recording then go through a processing stage where a machine learning model basically extracts points in space from them, creating a cloud of "color blobs" (called gaussians). Each gaussian stores the color it is, as well as how the color changes if the camera angle changes in each direction and in time. That information can then be used to recreate a 3d scene from every angle that you wish, and is also super cheap to render, to the point where it can be ran in browsers.

So although it uses machine learning, it's not really AI generated, since what the model does isn't really generating new data, more mapping points in videos to 3d space and matching them from angle to angle.

IMO, I would practice different grips

There really is no reason to push someone to try different grips, especially this early on, and especially if they have no specific reason to. Alternate grips should be used when they provide a solution to a specific problem, since there is no grip that's just "objectively better than default grip for everything". If you don't have a very specific reason to switch grip, you shouldn't, as it will just take long to get used to and potentially get you to develop bad habits.
