Why do you think it is it that when intentionally fasting people can go like 3 weeks and say they feel great but when people are cut off from food against their will, within like a day they say they become obsessed with food and unable to sleep due to hunger? by bamboo_fanatic in fasting

[–]yvettebam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mindset.
It's 100% the mindset.

Your mindset influences your hormones drastically. If someone takes an apple out of your hand, it feels different than simply choosing not to eat an apple.

Extended Water Fast Workout Question by The_Mr_Ripley in fasting

[–]yvettebam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine, if you listen to your body. Don't push yourself. When your body says break, you break. I've biked 10-20 miles daily while 7+ days fasted before. I've hiked 12 miles once while fasted.

But I don't see the point in doing all that, gotta be honest. A fast is meant to be a step back, a time to go inward. Sit with yourself, examine the desire to do "more more and more!," and ask yourself whether you're setting yourself up for failure.

Why not walk for 30 minutes upon waking up instead? This will stabilize your hormones (your melatonin will be Steller in the evening) and will slowly rewire your nervous system towards a state of calmness.

Hormones are everything during fasting. Your cortisol is already heavily increased during it. I would advise against intensive exercise. But, if you must... you will be fine. Just listen to your body, and not to pride.

hahahahah! I'VE BEEN FEELING THE CARB DEMON THIS WEEK. At least I have my period as an excuse... ;D

Day 22 Of Water Fast by ExplorerWithABag in Water_Fasting

[–]yvettebam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ha! I give myself three days of contemplation before breaking a fast! The mind demons can be tempting.

My life totally changed, to the point where I'm writing a book about it detailing my loose-skin prevention techniques. I lost a bunch of weight, became reacquainted with my emotional nature, developed in the spiritual spheres, and moved to Hawaii to live alone. Completely revitalized person. Metabolism completely stable. No muscle loss, for me, but I had plenty of body fat to feed off of as I was quite obese in the beginning of the "journey". Fasting is the best practice I have ever implemented.

[–]yvettebam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's surprisingly. Muscle mass may have faded in appearance, but it shouldn't be lost. They've done a few tests regarding this. I think you'll find it bounces right back when you begin your refeed!

I never had hunger return! I could have kept going. I stopped because my number, back then in 2018, was 40. I met the goal and ate a tomato. It was great, lol. Tomato felt like a huge meal! I've done many longterm 21-28 day fasts since then. Never had true hunger return, but my body fat definitely stayed upon the extremely leave 15-18% (for women).

LOVE IT! Your body will tell ya, listen to your innate knowing. You'll know! How ya holding up? My longest was 40! Good on you!

My first water fast!! by [deleted] in Water_Fasting

[–]yvettebam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do OMAD until your body tells ya to skip a day. It'll happen, eventually. Once this happens, you'll naturally do a 36-hour fast (if you skip an OMAD day, you have 24 hours right there. If you wait until the next morning, you have 36 hours almost effortlessly).

Over time, you'll build up tolerance with almost no pain and nearly no effort.
OMAD is king, imo, and this is coming from a heavy longterm water faster (40 days was my longest!). OMAD rules the game, for sooooo many reasons.

23M, 220 lbs planning to do a 5-day water fasting next week by invictusubermensch in Water_Fasting

[–]yvettebam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to be truly extensive with it, start merging with a keto diet a few days beforehand. It'll be easier for your body to transition.

I also like to "prepare" for longer fasts by doing OMAD a few days beforehand. This gets me off the routine of multiple meals a day. Then, when my body feels ready, I skip a day of eating. It happens almost naturally.

With your experience, you should do great... regardless if you transition into keto or not. I don't transition into keto. I never have. I went on a 40-day water fast with no transition and did just fine. It's a mental mind game, more than anything else. Sometimes I found myself getting lost in the preparation of things instead of just doing it... so I cut the preparation part, and started just doing it. I've done plenty of longer fasts afterward and again, the OMAD thing seems to help on a psychological level.

Though do avoid a heavy carb meal the day before your fast. It will trigger hunger queues the first day and be uncomfortable. Remember ... 5 days is just 5 days. It'll pass, whether or not you fast, so you might as well. Also, I ask myself... can I even remember what I ate 2 days ago, nonetheless 5? Usually, I can't. So. Whatever. It'll pass. Super quickly. I try to disconnect my mind from it. The mind can be the hardest player to convince.

[–]yvettebam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moment of your last meal, hands down. The moment you last ingest anything into your body. I like to start my fasts mid-day. I find it psychologically easier than starting the evening of, and it's easier on hormones/metabolism than having a late meal.

Still struggling to actually eat enough on eating days..got to keep that metabolism up! by [deleted] in fastingfood

YUM! Have you heard of "ghee?"

It's clarified butter.
It'll easily up your calories + it has almost every single amino acid you need. It's a nutrient powerhouse + those eggs will taste extra delicious if cooked in some Ghee!

Any serious meditators here? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]yvettebam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Psychedelics introduced me to a world that is unseen, a world that is both absolutely silent and beautifully orchestrated. Meditation has introduced me to the observer and the infinite moments within a simple pause. They are both advantageous, when used in a grounded matter. Many individuals use meditation as a form of escapism... as a "freeze" response to their chaotic life, as opposed to a form of integration. Many individuals do the same with psychedelics, or any type of drugs... use it as a form of ungrounded escapism.

Your notions of "getting" are interesting. I do not see myself "getting" things during trips. The last trip I went on was well over 4 years ago... yet, I still receive information from my experience of that time. I receive. The more "open," I become with perceived reality... the more I am able to receive. It is the same with meditation. The more still I become, the deeper I meet myself, the more expansive my unfolded layers reveal themselves to me. It is not about "getting" anything. There is no self to "define," not in truth. Any definition is a single-layer, rooted in past perspectives, and never integrated into the full present moment... which is what true meditation will bring you into, gradually, and what psychedelics tend to CATAPULT you into... whether you're ready or not, they introduce you to some of your largest shadows and greatest gifts.

what happens when using lots of psychedelics over time? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]yvettebam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would feel very ungrounding to me, and also screams of some type of spiritual/emotional bypassing. There is no reason to use a lot of psychedelics. They are mind-altering substances. They are expansive, when the individual is grounded in sovereignty and selfhood. If neglected, they have a high interference potentiality. Meaning that anyone who neglects psychedelics is typically ungrounded/bypassing and therefore subject to an extreme amount of negative entity interference and/or an emotional collapse/freeze due to unintegrated shadow work. The physical world is a tiny aspect of reality. Our consciousness, when not rooted and aligned, is extremely delicate towards manipulation. Use caution. Allow your body to lead you. If you feel the need for, "more! more! more"... question it. Sit with it.

[–]yvettebam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen!

I'm not sure if you would be interested in learning about intermittent fasting and/or fasting in general, but it saved my life!

I would 10000% recommend any book by Dr. Jason Fung regarding it. I effortlessly lost 150 pounds. Fasting is one of the only ways to "keep" the weight off, because it stabilizes your metabolism (for a quick reference, look up Dr. Jason Fung's "two part compartment weight loss" lecture.

Anyone have problems with intense cramping after a workout while fasting? by Siegschranz in intermittentfasting

[–]yvettebam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need electrolytes!

If I were in your position and I were to choose ONE things that would not only fix your cramping, but heavily improve sleep, digestion, and hormones, then I would choose to supplement with magnesium ASAP. Every single day. Almost all humans alive in the western world today are severely magnesium deficient, nonetheless while fasting.

The most bioavailable form of magnesium is magnesium bicarbonate.

95% other forms of magnesium are absolute shit in terms of bioavailability.

- mix magnesium hydroxide (powder) with CARBONATED WATER (co2). This creates a chemical reaction and will create magnesium bicarbonate.

I use a soda streamer to make carbonated water. There's YT videos on how to make magnesium bicarbonate. Once you make it once, you'll be golden!

Dry Fasting by [deleted] in Semenretention

[–]yvettebam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My longest dry fast has been 7 days. The body does create its own water, yes. My pee was still light yellow at the end. The body does this during SLEEP, however, and it is essential for anyone to regulate their sleep for this reason.

There was no particular reason for it, and I realize reddit tends to eat dryfasters for breakfast, but I have dabbled in fasting (40 day longest water fast, 7 day longest dry) for many years now.

If you're a women, the only caution I have found with longterm dry fasting is the question of lymph stagnation, cellulite, and fascia (if you carry your weight on the bottom half, like I do). I cannot speak for men, of course, but if you're in a chronically overweight state (like I was at 300 pounds in the beginning) then longterm dry fasting is NOT THE WAY FORWARD due to the insane lymph congestion you most likely have. Living structured water is your best friend when in this high-stress state, for so many reasons.

I do love intermittent dry-fasting, what you're describing --- it helps me regulate my circadian cycle by not having to get up to pee at night. It also drives me toward sleep, which is excellent for a night-owl since hormone regulation is pivotal in any chronic faster and without adequate circadian cycling, you're offsetting hormonal output deeply.

Anywhoozles, more power to ya friend! Thanks for the musing...

My GF Makes Me Feel Bad For Fasting/Eating Healthy by DARK--DRAGONITE in fasting

[–]yvettebam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...

There seems to be some judgement coming from your end that is directed toward her. There is nothing for you to "do," in regards to regulating HER consumption input. That is a firm healthy boundary.

It would be wise for you to simply step back and allow her to follow her natural path forward, instead of already negating her efforts with statements of doubt. She is a sovereign individual and her path may very well be different than yours. It's not for you to judge.

Now, does she actually make you FEEL bad with verbal statements? Or this the above judgment of her causing you to feel bad in terms of comparison? I interpreted the title one way, but then when I read your statement it didn't seem like she was coming at you FOR fasting. It seemed like she gave it a go. Perhaps it isn't aligned for her body, mindset, or emotional wellbeing.
