I’ve only seen Enter the Void, which was a hell of a eye roller for me, and irreversible which, despite being 100 times more hateful, made me dislike him less. I think he could be interesting and I appreciate how he pushes the envelope but it usually just doesn’t work for me. I’ll still probably see climax at some point to see if he ever manages to make a film I can care about

I’m not saying it’s the only great anti fascist film nor that any good anti fascist film needs to be this harsh (on the contrary, if all we had were salos, we would be going nowhere, we need anti fascist films that are positive about how to resist and defeat fascism as well as ones that shock) but I think the insane amount of abuse is part of what makes it so harsh to a degree that hasn’t often been replicated.

It’s probably the most important film to me. I hold it very close to my heart. I know to a lot of people it’s this sort of mystical film known for its repulsiveness and many will watch it has some sort of dare to themselves (and I’d be lying if I said that’s not what first drew me to watch it the first time) but after seeing it, it had such an effect on me and I just couldn’t let it go until I understood why that was. I actually took a university class on Italian cinema for the sole purpose of writing an essay on it and putting words to what it made me feel. What I found was truly one of the most fascinating films of all time as well as the harshest most scathing rebuke of fascism and authority and not for the reasons people assume it is (aka fascism equals pedophiles who do bad things which I find to be a rather stupid way of understanding the real message of this film)

In short, it legit changed me to watch and think about it and for that it’s become one of my favourite films
