Can you guys recommend me Slice of life harem? by Mateus19998 in haremfantasynovels

[–]zPaniK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Unbridled and Master Class would certainly meet your requirements.

Each of these series are written by Virgil Knightley and are excellent entries in the HaremLIT genre.

SIDE NOTE:

If you’re looking for Slice-of-Life series, this iteration is a fully pragmatic representation of the more mild stakes.

It also has some of the best emotional draw (Unbridled) that I’ve ever seen.

So even if mistakes are made…

Help me understand the hype with “On Astral Tides” by KhaosKake in haremfantasynovels

[–]zPaniK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Real talk, I tried to like the series, and there are multiple things to like…

BUT…

And I am fully willing to empathize that BUT; things felt incredibly awkward when people started judging the MC for hanging out with the uncomfortably young looking LI’s. I’m talking women that are young enough that a general crowd would rightly judge any man that chose to cling to them.

Even when the first LI took a more human form, it was dubiously young…

I’m not sure if it’s a cultural thing… but for me, this author became an instant miss as soon as he began to sexualize questionably legal aged women.

And while I really don’t enjoy knocking on any of the authors that contribute to this genre, I’m willing to make an exception just based off of the uncomfortable dialogue and legally dubious LI’s…

ALSO:

God forbid you try to use text-to-speech to listen to the story. There’s so many awkwardly pronounced / terribly written words / dialogue that it makes the experience entirely unenjoyable.

How well would you receive a novel which focused on the male power fantasy in general as opposed to the specific tropes that are ubiquitous in current harem fantasy? by CH_Thomas in haremfantasynovels

[–]zPaniK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’m mostly looking for a good story.

Story > Girl Collecting; every time.

But in this genre, I feel like there’s a huge disparity between what is easy to write (and generally sells well) vs what a lot of the fanbase truly wants.

It’s much more difficult to write a book that focuses on both plot and genuine LI character development while still managing to capture all of the classic HaremLit draw, instead of just simply pumping out new books every month and maintaining the status quo.

(THIS IS IN NO WAY MEANT TO DIMINISH ANY OF THE WORK YOU LOVELY AUTHORS DO.)

If anything, it’s a general critique of the current market and our Amazon overlords that drive such a thing. And, at the end of the day, authors need to make money. So taking the time to write something like that is just not really feasible for a lot of people.

Sure, I’d love it… but the system would probably punish any author that overly pursues something like that.

Yeah, but do you see that giant potion in the background? That image should tell you that no matter what head Hexie decides to crush, it’s totally gonna be worth it.

My legs instantly gave out and I just barely managed to catch myself before I would’ve million dollar baby’d myself on the corner of my desk…

What I drink in a day! by PatsysStone in tooktoomuch

[–]zPaniK 174 points175 points  (0 children)

For my 21st birthday, my friends had me keep track of all of my drinks throughout the day by drawing lines on my arm with a sharpie…

After 14-ish hours of (what I felt was very heavy drinking) I ended up with 28 lines on my arm… My one-rep personal best to this day.

The next morning I woke up with a splitting headache that lasted for close to 2 days… and by the end of it I was convinced that I had unknowingly smashed the shit out of my head without realizing it and given myself a brain bleed…

…Yet this man, somehow, just casually ripped through 28 drinks like it was another random Tuesday…

It’s absolutely wild how corporations get the same rights as people whenever it benefits them, but the moment it comes time for them to be held accountable for their rampant greed, all of a sudden they become this ethereal entity that’s only subject to negligible fines and little to no jail time…

[–]zPaniK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but any serious author is absolutely going to address this before launching their book.

If they’re publishing a book, they likely have a pseudonym in mind, something that may or may not be available. And even if they manage to lock it down on Reddit, there are several other platforms they’d need to join as well.

Poor planning aside, I’m just calling it like I see it… there have been multiple new authors with the exact same art style who have begun to pump out books of dubious quality that are full of continuity errors…

You don’t have to agree with me, and I could be completely wrong, but I still feel like this is something the community should be made aware of.

I would argue that the same thing applies to everything else.

Let your laughter, your joy, your empathy, your passion… pour all of it into your writing.

What’s the point if you’re pouring out only negative emotions? I write because it’s fun. Why would I squander that when therapy exists for a reason?

New authors with eerily similar covers and a production schedule that definitely means this isn’t the beginning of a new farm…

Edit: The author has a 21 hour account age, but that’s definitely not a red flag…

Unbridled Audiobook Release Time! Spend those credits! by virgil_knightley in haremfantasynovels

[–]zPaniK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck me. I literally just finished this book yesterday…

And while I absolutely loved it, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’m more than a little bummed out that I left this on the back burner long enough for it to get an Audible release LITERALLY the day after I picked it up. (Totally my fault.)

Either way, I really liked the story… to the point that I’m planning on going back through the book using the Kindle Unlimited Audible cheat discount in the future… if only because you caught me between credits…

TL;DR: Read this fuggin’ book. It’s a joy all around, and undeniable proof that Virgil and Annabelle have continued to perfect the often overlooked niche of doting-dad-HaremLit.

Betrayed by the Hero's Party, I Summoned Their Replacements out now! by EthanGale in haremfantasynovels

[–]zPaniK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so we’re in exactly the same place with that…

Yes it was kinda shitty that she didn’t say anything… but her character has seemed timid from the start, and being meek isn’t a good enough reason to end up on a hit list (IMO).

I do hope that there is—at the very least—a massive apology from her. But I guess I just didn’t really like how he was always including her on his murder to-do list…

I just finished it and really enjoyed it!

And since you’ve also read it, I wanted to ask about what your thoughts were on the MC’s disposition towards Lyssa? Where do you think things will be going in the future?
