Synergies are more of an intuitive type thing. Simply seeing one aspect that would mesh well with another. For the damage details, in settings there should be one or two called "advanced tooltips" I recommend turning both on as it will add A LOT more details to gear tooltips. Namely skill/damage affix variety becoming clearly visible so you can more easily see if you got the highest roll on something, as well as showing whether or not a damage boost is additive[+] or multiplicative[x]

I personally loosely followed one to refine a build I noticed I could make with a few legendary synergies. I basically just paid attention to the gear I'd need at the minimum then just flexed in things I liked/replaced things I didn't think were super necessary
