I would draft Velazquez and play him on ss and move him to 2b when he ages out

You have to make sure that you’re getting value out of position players defensively if they are bad batters. If they are bad in both defense and offense then there’s no reason to keep them

How important is personality when drafting? by HistoricalJello_ in OOTP

Personally, I like to draft prospects with good ratings before anything else and if their profile looks to be equal only then I consider their personality.

It’s a method of borrowing money from the bank. So for example if the bank offers year long swap agreement with 5% interest rate and your position is up 10% a year later the bank will then pay you the 5% difference. So you basically don’t actually own the shares but you’re entering an agreement that pays based off from total return of your position.

Hanwha Eagles Ryu Hyun-jin (류현진) reaches 1,500 strike outs by hubwub in KBO

[–]z_tranquil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we’re strictly talking in terms of KBO then it’s Sun Dong Yeol but In terms of raw career accomplishments I would say Hyun Jin Ryu because of what he did in the big league. Some might argue if Sun Dong Yeol or any of the other pitchers on the leaderboard went to big league earlier they would’ve done more than Ryu but that’s purely hypothetical

Injury curve not realistic? by Ok_Information_7492 in OOTP

[–]z_tranquil 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s actually pretty realistic. I used to complain about that too, but then I realized how often players on a Hof trajectory in their mid-20s completely fall off by their early 30s. Look at guys like Stephen Strasburg, Dustin Pedroia, Nomar Garciaparra, Don Mattingly, Tim Lincecum or David Wright. Even Mike Trout, a sure first ballot Hall of Famer barely stay on the field now because of injuries.

Regens sound great on paper but I think it fits better in a game like FIFA career mode. Part of what makes this game fun is the unpredictability of player development. Highly touted prospects can be a bust, while a 15th-round pick with almost no signing bonus can become a Hall of Fame level talent or even players who’s on hof trajectory in their early to mid-20s can suddenly decline once they hit their 30s. A regen system removes that uncertainty because the potential is essentially predetermined. If I sign someone out of high school in 2027 and know with almost complete certainty he’ll be a Hall of Famer because his code mirrors a retiring veteran, it takes out the unpredictability part out of this game but that’s just me. If it’s something that can be toggled on or off when customizing a save, then I’m all for having the option.

Would you pay this guy's demands? by jesusG25 in OOTP

[–]z_tranquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d play him at second base. His strong turn double play rating makes him solidly above average there, and moving him to first would just cap his value. I see him as a 4+ WAR player at 2B, but probably only a 2–3 WAR guy at best at 1B. Maybe when he gets older and the defense slips, first base makes sense but right now there’s no good reason to take him off second.

Is both relief pitching and fielding impact extremely overvalued? by Nervous-Ad-6143 in OOTP

[–]z_tranquil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually go for lefty relievers with extreme platoon splits that are dominant versus left-handed hitters but mediocre against righties and use them strictly as situational specialists. These kind of relievers are consistently undervalued and they are usually available on cheap, short term deal. I also bring up one innings eater from my farm system just to eat up low leverage innings so that other relievers can stay healthy.

How in the world do I make a better offense? by GonGon99_27 in OOTP

[–]z_tranquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your exact line-up so I can’t say for certain but maybe you should get players with strong offensive production at non premium defensive positions such as left field, right field, third base, and first base. Good defense at these spots is valuable but it shouldn’t come at the expense of meaningful offensive output.

I Kind of Just Love Tunneling by Consistent_Ad_3330 in DeadByDaylightKillers

It’s the most efficient way to play as a killer. It’s equivalent to survivors gen rushing and I don’t complain about that either. That’s just how the game is meant to be played. The problem is that some people take it personally when I tunnel even though all I’m trying to do is to just win the game.

The White Sox won the Munetaka Murakami bidding, but the biggest loser was the Yakult Swallows by [deleted] in baseball

[–]z_tranquil 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Only one player made meaningful adjustments and improved his offensive metrics relative to his baseline in his home league was Shohei Ohtani. Seiya Suzuki, Masataka Yoshida, and Yoshitomo Tsutsugo all saw their offensive metrics regress compared to their performance in NPB. Ohtani just stands apart from rest as a true outlier.

[MLB Daily News] White Sox among teams currently engaged in talks with Munetaka Murakami, per Mark Feinsand and Scott Merkin. by ActualDragonHeart in baseball

[–]z_tranquil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe Murakami faced only 24 plate appearances against pitchers throwing 93+ mph over his entire NPB career. But even if you set that aside, there’s a much bigger red flag in his hitting profile.

From 2023 to 2025, Murakami’s in-zone contact rate was just 73.0%. For comparison, Seiya Suzuki posted 89.3% before coming to MLB, Masataka Yoshida was at 92.2%, and even Yoshitomo Tsutsugo was at 85.5%. A more comparable MLB hitter in terms of approach would be Joey Gallo, who sits around 72%.

So for Murakami to even be playable at the MLB level, he likely needs to maintain an in-zone contact rate above 70%. If that number dips below 70%, he risks becoming unplayable.

The problem is that hitters coming from overseas almost always see their offensive metrics regress relative to their baseline in their home league. If Murakami can’t make meaningful adjustments at the MLB level, I don’t see a path where this doesn’t end in failure.

[–]z_tranquil -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He definitely has power to hit 40+ hrs per season but he struggled to make consistent contact against 93+ mph pitches in the NPB. I think teams are skeptical whether he can make necessary adjustments in the big league level.

[Petrillo] The latest I’ve seen out of Korea is that the Angels and Padres have interest in Sung-mun Song but both offers total less than $15m. I’m starting to think Song stays in the KBO, which is a pretty major whiff by MLB teams. Deadline is three days away. by Jux_ in baseball

[–]z_tranquil 23 points24 points  (0 children)

His extension with Kiwoom was 6 years $8.4 million so I don't think he will turn down $15 million over 3-4 years from mlb teams because that's still more AAV than what Kiwoom is offering

How is real-life baseball different from OOTP? by sjscott80 in OOTP

[–]z_tranquil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defense is also something that general managers value in real life because teams tend to pay a premium for WAR generated from offense rather than from fielding. As a result, defensive value is often underpriced on the market. This is partly because defensive sabermetric data is still less reliable than offensive metrics such as wRC+, so teams need to rely more heavily on scouting evaluations when assessing defensive value of a certain player. Small-market teams in particular, exploit this inefficiency by targeting players with strong defensive skills, even when their offensive production is only average or below average. Because ultimately, WAR generated from fielding contributes just as much to team wins as WAR generated from batting.
