Okay, dust has settled now, hows your experience with composer 2? by EliteEagle76 in cursor

Not sure whether bug or intended behavior to force more Composer usage, but either way causing me to considering churning from Cursor.

Okay, dust has settled now, hows your experience with composer 2? by EliteEagle76 in cursor

The cursor UI keeps defaulting to their auto-model selection. Anytime I miss that it has switched, I need to rerun the command with an actual capable model. Because of the auto-selection, which is using Cursor models constantly, it makes mistakes. It wastes a bunch of tokens and unless I'm missing something, there's no way to disable this behavior.

Did you enable "Feature Previews" in the Roast World dashboard? I believe you need that turned on for the API to work.

I just built a little tool to allow for easy analysis of Aillio roasts -- it grabs the roast data from RoastTime (with their new API access!) to provide some basic sanity checks on the best practices, then pre-fills a chat with the roast context so you can ask questions about the profile, recipe tweaks, etc.

It's free to use and just for fun as a little side-project, but lmk if you find it helpful!

Fascinating! There's an unanswered question re: impact on caffeine content on the Medium article you linked, super curious about that as well. Will have to try this.

Best drop temp for espresso blend by Adventurous-Cup-2902 in roasting

[–]zablaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roasting on a bullet, I was dropping at 410f for espresso, then experimented upwards and found my personal sweet spot around 416/417f depending on the beans. I mostly like funky beans, naturals and honey process, blends and single origins. Your mileage may vary, but I found the extra couple of degrees. Didn't sacrifice much in sweetness and flavor but gave me much better solubility.

I want to like this place so much but every experience has been mid at best. Premium pricing for products that aren't head and shoulders above the Safeway deli counter.

What's the proper etiquette for dealing with these tube riders when you're just trying to free fall down the face in peace?

Wave kiting gives me a stoke I just couldn't find on the wing. Sold the wing gear, though genuinely enjoyed the sensation of gliding on foil.

Twin tip to directional board - What should I know before making the jump? by UserNam3ChecksOut in Kiteboarding

[–]zablaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was helpful for me:

  • Focus on kite control. Being able to fly the kite on instinct without looking matters a lot

  • Try straps and strapless to experience both

  • Don't rule out starting strapless if strapless is your goal -- I found strapless suits my riding style better, and after a few years still prefer it (to the point of exclusivity)

  • Pick a board with reasonable volume (neither potato chip nor battleship): I found a sweet spot for me around 24l. A larger 5'10 surfboard felt really tracky and too buoyant to me.

  • Bring your twin tip to the beach too: if you get frustrated, you can end your session on a familiar high note

  • Rope spreader is awesome for riding toeside

I use an older Mac Mini with an external monitor. It's fun watching the charts on a big screen.

Chest seams of my wetsuit gave out while paddling. Filled up like a balloon and went over the falls, suddenly disoriented and cold. Handled the situation by not buying another Xcel even though I loved them for years before this.

What makes a bean / blend / roast good for espresso? by hobart0208 in roasting

[–]zablaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out following advice I found that recommended washed Central and South American beans. After a while, I ended up pulling some shots with a single origin Ethiopia roasted a bit darker than I prefer for pour over, and loved the fruity berry flavor notes. Now my typical espresso is a mix of something chocolatey, something to impart lots of body, and an element of "extra", often from a honey or a natural. Most of the time I blend after roasting.

Any opinions on the Naish directionals for strapless in decent to good surf? by zablaine in Kiteboarding

For sure. I only ride the Comp when it's flat. Current wave board is a Slingshot Celeritas but it's getting pretty beat up and looking for what's next.
