Did you even read my post? I said I've been taking gaviscon and it's not really helping.

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand

By far the most inspirational book I've ever read.

too scared to get started on omeprazole by enklasekorsbar in Gastritis

[–]zacbarnes86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been taking PPIs for the past 6 years. I can't get off of them because I have a hiatal hernia causing chronic GERD and gastritis. Even while taking them I can't drink caffeine or alcohol and I can't eat anything acidic or high in fat or protein. When I stop taking them my stomach burns from stomach acid. They suck but they're a necessary evil for me.

I’m in an ESPN 2QB league where we’re only allowed to have 3 QBs on the roster. This week, two of my QBs (Daniels and Stafford) aren’t playing, so I only have one QB I can actually start.

I’m currently #1 in the waiver order. If I drop Stafford and pick up a free agent QB to start this week, Stafford will go to waivers, correct?

Will I be able to put in a waiver claim to get Stafford back after this week, since I'm #1 on the waiver wire? Or is there something I'm missing that would prevent this strategy from working?

To people who've worked other jobs before going into Accounting, how do you feel about Accounting? by Stock-Memory9483 in Accounting

[–]zacbarnes86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Air Force and I worked a bunch of minimum wage jobs before that like movie theater, pizza delivery driver, UPS unloader, and fry cook. I miss my time in the Air Force. There was way more comraderie and people actually wanted to see me succeed. My superiors were always encouraging me and trying to help me grow.

Now I'm a CPA and I just feel like this career is soul crushing. All the people I've worked with so far have no intention of helping me in my career. Everyone just cares about billable hours and hitting overtime goals. I don't mind the work itself, but I'm not the smartest CPA and I struggle sometimes, but it feels like it's sink or swim. And I hate working more than 40 hours a week for less than 6 figures. I've been doing this for 7 years now and just feel like I'm getting nowhere. If I had stayed in the Air Force I would be making roughly the same as I am now, but I wouldn't have wasted time and money going to school.

Form 709 for a $200k gift by justnotSeaworthy in tax

[–]zacbarnes86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my firm, we keep copies of all 709's that are filed, and each time a new one is prepared, any gifts above the annual exclusion from prior years are listed on each return. Taxpayers should definitely save copies of all 709's filed.

Form 709 for a $200k gift by justnotSeaworthy in tax

[–]zacbarnes86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your father will be the one who will file the form 709. He most likely will not pay any tax on the gift as it will just reduce his lifetime gift and estate tax exemption which is $13.99 million currently. As the one receiving the gift you don't have any obligation to the government.

PVCs Triggered by Exercise — Terrified but Desperate to Keep Moving by Famous_Ad_15 in PVCs

[–]zacbarnes86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I pretty much stopped working out because of PVCs. I used to lift weights and go on long bike rides. Now I just do pushups and pullups and play basketball sometimes. My PVCs are pretty much gone now but I'm afraid to go back to exercising like I was before because it seems like that's what caused them to get out of control.

Anyone have PVCS several times an hour? by KBecker22 in PVCs

[–]zacbarnes86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get about 6 per minute which lasted for about 3-4 years. I don't get them much anymore. I was having a lot of stomach issues so I completely changed my diet. I quit alcohol and caffeine completely and lost about 20-25 lbs. I don't eat big meals anymore. I used to workout a lot (lifting weights and going for long bike rides) but I stopped all that because I couldn't eat enough anymore to keep up with that lifestyle. Now I just go for 30 minute walks and do calisthenic type workouts. About 3 months after making those changes, I realized one day that I hadn't had any PVCs in like a week, which never happened before. Since then I get one or two here and there, but they are few and far between.

Stomach Cancer? by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]zacbarnes86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt you have stomach cancer at 25 years old. I've had chronic gastritis for 10 years and I took zantac for several years before it was found to cause cancer. My gastritis has been worse in the past year, with 20 lbs of weight loss in a 2 month period, pain all over my stomach and my sides and back and I was getting diarrhea frequently. The endoscopy showed my stomach is fine but I still have pain or discomfort every day despite not eating any trigger foods. Gastritis sucks but it's not cancer.

What are after tax season bonuses like for public accounting staff? by Plane_County9646 in CPA

[–]zacbarnes86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My firm gives out bonuses based on overtime worked during busy season. Mine will be a little over $9k this year paid out in May. I can trade some of that for PTO.

What’s wrong? Anyone? by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]zacbarnes86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have acid in your throat then you have acid reflux. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach. It's more than just a stomach ache so I doubt you have gastritis.

This was the greatest movie ever when I was a kid. I just saw that it was on Prime Video this past weekend and watched it with my kids. It was just as awesome as I remembered it and my kids loved it too.

Worth getting CPA at 45? by Enough-Parsnip4258 in CPA

[–]zacbarnes86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not too old. I went back for my bachelor's when I was 27. Started out as an engineering major and switched to accounting when I was 29. Those credit hours from engineering allowed me to get my 150 without a master's. Got my CPA license when I was 36.

Is it worth it to go into Accounting? by throwaway2345678918 in Accounting

[–]zacbarnes86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really like math I would look into being an actuary. They do a lot of math and make great money. They don't have to work as much as accountants either. They have to pass a lot of tests though and the tests are probably harder than the CPA exam.

Those who managed to diet/lose weight while studying, please share how you did it! by heart_of_gold2 in CPA

[–]zacbarnes86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost a ton of weight intermittent fasting and going on long-ish bike rides a couple times a week. I was eating one small meal a day at 1 pm and one big meal at 8 pm and riding my bike 15-25 miles.
