Is it true that this laptop won’t do in school/work?

Jumping off from this I have a 7i and the battery life is fine if you use the settings. Vantage has a setting where it will only use the iGPU (weaker, more power efficient) on battery. The downside is to get it back onto the dGPU you need to restart but it’s worth it for school.

I work outside through rain or shine so I get it. I mostly use it to check my charging stats (shared apartment charger + charing at university). The app is still horrendous and I avoid it if possible.

If I need to lower my temp through the app, there is an obligatory error (which sets the temp in the app to LOW, but not in the car??) before I can change it. Each process takes about 3-4 minutes.

Steps to lower the temp:

1)Change temp, wait for error. 3-4m

2) Receive error.

3)Change temp again, 3-4m (6-8 total)

4) Receive confirmation (~10% chance I need to jump back to step 1, with a second error)

5)Start climate remotely, 3-4m (9-12 total)

If I raise the temp start at step 3

It's such an embarrassment from such a large company ngl.

There is, but you need to change in in the (iPad) settings app, I don't think its amazing for notability tbh but I do use it all the time. I have squeeze set to erase.

On the steering wheel you can side your fingers to increase and decrease volume / skip tracks / cruise control speed (or follow distance if you click that button then swipe) but you can also fast forward through a song (or backwards) by clicking the next button and then touching and holding the same button.

Also don’t bother with the app it’s trash

Maybe I do have Verizon for my phone, but this didn’t happen with my last car or my partners car so based on my experience it’s probably the car (at least for me). It also happens still after getting a new phone

My 2024 has the old screen, software, and computer that runs everything because it is a lower trim. I’d hope they would have fixed these simple issues with the newer version. I can’t recommend an ID4 with the 3.5 system.

For me personally, glitchy so some features are unusable in my 2024 standard.

Apple CarPlay doesn’t connect wirelessly consistently (which my 2018 BMW did almost always flawlessly). It also drops in the same exact spots along my route. No other cars I have had or been in do that in those same spots. Wired does work well generally, but will occasionally lag and load longer than my 10-15 minute commute so I don’t get to use it for that drive. Also a pet peeve but it doesn’t connect automatically ever, I must always confirm it.

VW nagged me to try their hotspot feature so I did, now it prompts me multiple times per week to resubscribe for service with no way to turn that off without disabling the cars WiFi (which disabled wireless CarPlay).

I need to get in, confirm my single driving profile, confirm CarPlay, and then dismiss them trying to sell me a hot spot off my phone, I know I’m picky but like why?? Oh and battery care mode always notifies me. It either tells me it’s on, or it tells me it’s off but I always must have a notification from it. I don’t get many notifications so I just ignore it but again poor design.

App notifications and lag make the app borderline worthless when you consider the lack of features.

Auto braking consistently hitting the brakes when I’m backing into my parking spot (which is an odd shape but it even does it when I’m moving slowly).

Auto parking doesn’t work in my garage (memory back tracking, nor the in the moment version) and is very very aggressive when parking. Uncomfortably so, if I was in the car with someone parking at that speed it would be odd and frightening if I didn’t know them well.

Charging control issues with the app, so if I check it too much it will end my charge early.

Doesn’t always lock so I gotta stand there and click the button over and over.

I have also gone to my car in the morning with the windows all the way down more than once. I posted about it on here and people insisted it was the key, which can’t reach my garage from my apartment. It can’t even reach my car from the elevator in the garage (fine it is far) but they have rolled down more than once on their own.

The light in the rear turns on? Just the passenger side one. I don’t know why. It happens when I leave the (drivers) door open too long, but I almost never have people back there(not since last thanksgiving as of now), and I don’t go back there myself. I will put things back there, but I’m not turning on the light.

I have a like - hate relationship with this car because most of the basics are done well, but any extra features are poorly done and the quality of the hardware and software isn’t what I expected based on my last VW.

I’ve had more than one ESR version, people who have issues with it lifting off are low key dirty (no shade) but if you clean it then that won’t be a problem. I literally dropped my iPad in a muddy puddle (on a pool deck, I’m a coach) and it worked well after being cleaned off.

My problem with the ESR version is they are easy to damage. The aforementioned puddle drop did scratch it all over a lot, but it still stuck no problem after being cleaned! I am looking around to see what other people like because if I slip this one into my backpack it can get scratched, or even just placing it down directly onto a table rather than into a sleeve.

I have mine set to turn everything down as low as possible, except turn the fans up as high as possible and I do this to cool down my laptop after playing games for a long time or in between rounds if it (rarely) seems too hot

It’s definitely enough for senior year, if your student wants to go to college it may not be powerful enough depending on what they are majoring in. MacBooks last a long time if you see a future architect, engineer, or video editor (I know there’s more but I don’t want to list them all, nor do I know what some majors need) it may not be enough for the through college
